As it's JAMSHEDPUR you can opt Metallurgical and Materials Engineering branch without hesitation. It is the best college for studying Metallurgy. The Faculties are nice and all have PhDs from IITs. They teach on blackboard and whiteboard. Exams are conducted two times per semester. One Mid-semester and one End-semester.

My jee mains OBC rank was 16k and I was getting mechanical and the below branches in almost all mediocre NITs. I chose to be in the National Institute of Technology Jamshedpur because of its placement. And environment. The class of mechanical comprises 115 students with 9-10 faculties excluding labs and workshops. The faculties are well qualified in their field all are PhD holders and some are from IITs. Their way of teaching is quite good.

I chose this course because of my excellent placement records in this course and also to have deep knowledge of electrical engineering. Student faculty ratio is about 7:1 . Professors here are highly qualified they have done BTech, and MTech and also had their ph.d degrees from some precious college. The teaching methods of most of the professors are good but you may not cope with everyone as the teaching style of every professor is not same . Terms exams are conducted twice a year with both mid-sem and end-sem. Exams here are not that easy you will have to work hard to get good grades.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I am currently pursuing metallurgical and materials engineering in nit Jamshedpur. I chose the core branch because it took my interest in it. It's a pretty nice course. As my College offers industrial visit for the students. It's fun visiting them. The relationship between students and faculty is pretty good. But some of the professors didn't even bother our curiosity. But it's okay after all it has to be done on its own. All the faculty here are qualified with great education. The examination is the most hectic thing in the college curriculum. The questions are pretty tough but if written professor gives marks. And that's the good thing. So we passed if the professor wanted us to.

A couple of my friends completed their B.tech from NIT Jamshedpur. They had a pretty good experience at the institute. Here are some key highlights you must know about.

  • The college is situated in Jamshedpur which is one of the most dynamic, and enthusiastic cities. My friends keep on claiming that this city is a mixture of the craziness of Kolkata as well as the lights and glamours of Bombay.
  • You can grab a chance to work in any TATA group company there as NIT Jamshedpur has a tie-up with the company. The best part is you can join irrespective of your branch.
  • The campus is lush green and huge so you can stroll around peacefully in the early morning or evening - especially towards the River Kharkai.
  • Outside the campus, you can head to nearby Bistupur Market or Dimna Dam for a day out.
  • You can engage in various extracurricular activities, technical festivals, and sports.

NIT Jamshedpur has to offer you great college life. Take advantage of the opportunity and explore the campus and the city as much as you can.

The placement reports of NIT Jamshedpur are overall good. But, the placement percentage and the average packages you will receive depends on the branch. Both small-scale industries and large-scale industries visit the placement drive. TATA Steel is one of such large-scale recruiters at the campus.

The departments that are apparently doing well in terms of placements are CSE, EEE, Metallurgy, and Manufacturing. These are a few branches that you can consider. There are several students who obtained chances to be placed in their core sector. The National Metallurgical Limited (NML) is centered around the same place, which makes it an added advantage to the students of the metallurgical branch.

Here is a brief highlight of the 2020 placements at NIT Jamshedpur.

What is your review about NIT Jamshedpur?

By Megha Rohillaon 10 May 21
AP

Arjita Pathak

10 May 21B.Tech (Hons.) from National Institute of Technology, Jamshedpur (2018)

My friend recently graduated from NIT Jamshedpur. Here is her review.

Location: The campus is located in Adityapur, surrounded by industries. It is a bit away from Tatanagar Railway Station. Since Jamshedpur doesn’t have an airport the best way to reach the campus is from Ranchi via NH-33.

Infrastructure-wise: Both the hostels and the computer centers are revamped. The main buildings of the campus are still under further development but are expected to be in maintenance soon. However, the mega hostels, known as J & K, are an enhanced sight of the campus.

Academics

  • The quality of professors or the methodology of their teaching is quite not up to the mark. Few professors of the institute somewhat still follow the old pedagogy and are sometimes not cooperative. On contrary, the newly appointed Ad-hoc faculties are supportive and are willing to guide students.
  • Students of the institute perform well in competitive examinations. Many made it to IITs, IIMs, or various international institutes as well.
  • The Central Workshop and laboratories, substantially Fluid, Thermodynamics, and Metallurgical are not quite well maintained.

Placement Reports:

A few major recruiting companies are (in respective branches) as follows.

  • CSE: Amazon, Microsoft, Adobe, Oracle
  • ECE: Amazon, Oracle Finance, Wipro, Mahindra Comviva
  • EEE: Tata Steel, JSW Steel, L&T, BPCL
  • ME: Tata Motors, L&T, Tata Steel, BPCL
  • MME: JSW Steel, Vedanta, Tata Metaliks, Tata Steel
  • CE: Simplex, L&T
  • PIE: Tata Hitachi, JK Tyre, JK Paper, Tata Motors

FIITJEE, Rao Academy, Career Point, etc, are examples of coaching institutes that recruited as well. The highest package received was 30 LPA while the average salary was 12 LPA

Extracurricular Activities:

The TechnoManagement fest, Ojass, and Cultural fest, Culfest are the major events of the institute. There are several automobile teams as well, like Team Phoenix, the aircraft team; Team Rays, the hybrid car team and Team Daksh, Off road car team.

This is the in-depth scenario of the institute.

I have a friend at NIT Jamshedpur, so I can give you a brief idea about the CSE department.

The placement of the CSE department in NIT Jamshedpur somehow reached some new highs over the last few years. Students from the CSE department have a placement average of around 95%.

Here’s a little highlight of the 2020 placement drive at the institute.

Average CTC

12 LPA

Highest CTC

30 LPA

Top Recruiters

TATA Powers, Deloitte, Amazon

Although if you are aspiring for an MS or MBA, then NIT Jamshedpur is probably not the best choice for you. You will get ample time during vacations to prepare but the environment of the institute is not ideal for the preparation of these examinations.

There are several groups of students, from the past few years, who have not qualified for examinations like these from the CSE department.

NIT Jamshedpur for CSE and NIT Calicut for ECE both have good placements. It depends on you which branch you are interested in.

One of my friends is studying at NIT Jamshedpur so I will give you insight into the institute’s branch.

  • The placement of NIT Jamshedpur is good with 100% placement. Almost 50% of students get multiple placement offers.
  • The average CTC offered to CSE students is around INR 9 LPA to INR 10 LPA.
  • The placement of NIT Calicut departments is also good.

In the following table, you will get basic information about NIT Jamshedpur, CSE and NIT Calicut, ECE programs.

Category NIT Jamshedpur CSE NIT Calicut ECE
Fees INR 1.03 Lakh (1st Year) INR 1.37 Lakh
Duration 4 years 4 years

Average CTC INR 15 LPA INR. 11 LPA

Therefore, CSE from NIT Jamshedpur and ECE from NIT Calicut both are good with good placement statistics. It depends on you which branch of study you are interested in and want to pursue your career in.
