Ques. Why is GATE exam for?
Ans. GATE exam is conducted for students to test their knowledge in subjects like engineering and sciences. The exam scores are used by various institutes for admission to M.Tech and PhD programs at IITs, NITs, IIEST, IIITs and GFTIs. Some of the top international universities also accept GATE scores for study abroad options in Germany and Singapore. GATE scores are also used by multiple PSUs to recruit entry-level engineers for various trainee positions. Ques. Is GATE and JEE the same?
Ans. GATE and JEE are two different-level exams. GATE is a graduate-level national level exam conducted for admission to M.Tech/ PhD courses at IITs, NITs, IIITs and GFTIs. Meanwhile, JEE is an undergraduate-level national level entrance exam conducted for admission to B.Tech, B.Arch and B.Planning courses at IITs, NITs, IIITs and GFTIs.

Ques. Do IIT students give GATE?
Ans. IIT students with a good CGPA score might be exempted from GATE exam while applying for IIT M.Tech program. Candidates applying for M.Tech admissions at IIT need not appear for GATE exam provided they have completed their B.Tech from one of IITs with a minimum CGPA of 8.5. Candidates who have completed MBBS might also be exempted from appearing for GATE exam provided they also meet the minimum marks required for M.Tech admission at IIT. The minimum CGPA might also be different for each of the IITs offering an M.Tech program.

Ans. GATE 2023 consists of a total of 29 papers. Geomatics Engineering (GE) and Naval Architecture & Marine Engineering(NM) have been added to the exam list last year.
Ques. What is the pattern for GATE exam?
Ans. GATE exam is conducted online as a computer-based exam. The exam is conducted for 29 papers including CSE, ECE, ME, CE, EEE, etc. Each question paper consists of 65 questions carrying 100 marks. Each paper in GATE exam can be divided majorly into two sections General Aptitude (with 10 questions carrying 15 marks) and Subject-specific section (with 55 questions carrying 85 marks). The questions asked are in the form of MCQs, MSQs and NATs carrying 1 or 2 marks each. There is also a negative marking for MSQs and NATs. Ques. How many GATE papers can I write?
Ans. You can sit for either one or two GATE papers. Each candidate can select a second preference of GATE paper from the pre-defined Two-Paper Combination released by the authorities. For example, a candidate applying for Computer Science and Information Technology as their primary paper can also register for EC, GE, MA, PH or ST paper as provided in the list of GATE 2023 two-paper combination list.

Ans. GATE 2023 syllabus is based on topics from General Aptitude and Core Discipline. The general aptitude section is common among all GATE 2023 syllabus PDF carrying a weightage of 15 marks meanwhile, the core discipline syllabus carries a weightage of 85 marks. Ques. Is GATE 2023 compulsory for all engineers?
Ans. No. AICTE has not yet announced any update on GATE being a mandatory exit exam for engineers. Additionally, GATE scores are also required to get M.Tech admission along with a government scholarship/ stipend.

Ques: How many papers a candidate can apply for in GATE 2023?
Ans: Candidates can apply for any two of the 29 papers listed in the GATE Information Brochure. A candidate is required to choose the first paper (primary paper) as per his/her qualifying degree/ discipline. The second paper can be chosen from among the list of secondary paper choices for the primary paper, as given in the GATE Information Brochure.
Ques: Can I change my exam city after the submission of my GATE 2023 Application Form?
Ans: Yes. You can seek a change of examination city after the successful submission of GATE 2023 Application Form. Candidates can make changes to their GATE 2023 Exam Center through the form corrections window with a fee payment of INR 500. However, the provision would only be allowed during GATE Form Correction and no changes in the application form after the Form Correction period would be allowed.
