Course Curriculum Overview:

I am pursuing B.Tech (Computer science and engineering). For the general category, CSE closes at around 22-23k AIR in JEE Main. For me, the curriculum of this branch is slightly easier to understand and also, CSE has the highest placements with an average of about 12-14 LPA, and almost all students of CSE get placed. Overall, the average package ranges between 8-9 LPA. Faculties of every department are well qualified (almost all are Ph.D. holders) and they are experts in their fields, there are different teachers to teach different topics of the same sub. We have 2 mid-semester exams and 1 end-semester exam for each semester. Mid-semesters are held after every 3 months and the end semester is taken every 6 months. To pass the exams, you just need to focus on whatever is taught in the class, passing the exams is not a big deal but you have to maintain at least 75% attendance in the class to appear for the exams except that if you have a medical emergency, then min. 60% of attendance is required.

The course of Computer science and engineering is in demand and secondly, it has a decent package that one aims for after B.Tech. Talking about faculties here, Faculties are well qualified with all teachers having expertise in their subjects and fields. The teachers attempt their best to impart knowledge to students but the teaching methods vary from faculty to faculty. The exams are conducted thrice per semester 2 mid-semester exams and one end-semester exam. The difficulty of the paper could be marked as moderate.

So I got rank 78000. And in this rank mechanical seemed the best choice as I wasn't passionate about coding. After coming to college I came to know that mechanical is best in terms of placement infrastructure faculties. All faculties are Ph.D. from IITs. Labs are not that standard but management is working on improvement. There are two mid-semester and one end-semester exam each semester. The semester starts from December after covid till April ( 4 months).1st year exams are easy to pass but from 2nd-year the difficulty increases. Professors also don't give numbers in exams.

● Top Answer By Sweta Verma on 19 Sept 22

Ans
You should prefer HBIT Kanpur, if you aren’t getting the top 10 NITs, IIIT Hyderabad or IIIT Allahabad. HBIT offers great academics and has an impressive placement record. Each year many reputed companies such as ITC, HSBC, Berger Paints, Dabur, Finserv, etc. take part in the campus placement of the institute. HBTU placements in 2021 had an average CTC of INR 6.46 LPA, while the highest CTC offered was INR 43.5 LPA.

Ques
Which is the better option, HBTU electronic engineering or IET Lucknow ECE?

● Top Answer By Neha Patel on 06 Aug 21

Ans
Choosing a particular college or a department actually depends on you, and how you want to shape your career ahead. Having known some people who study in both these institutions, I can say that they all have their fair share of strengths and weaknesses.  I might not be able to help you select one among them, because they are both good in their own ways. So, I will share some information about them which might help you make the choice. ECE at IET Lucknow has one of the finest faculty. They also have a great student crowd. HBTU also has highly experienced faculty members. Placements at HBTU are also much better than IET Lucknow. The enrolled candidates of the GATE exam are really great. They also offer a vast alumni network unlike IET. Categories Electrical Engineering at HBTU ECE at IET Lucknow Course Fee 5.17 lakhs 3.44 lakhs Highest CTC 29 LPA 18 LPA Average CTC 16 LPA 8-9 LPA Recruiting Companies Phillips, Havells, TCS, Aditya Birla, etc. TCS, DE Shaw, Barclays, Code Nation, etc. It is suggested that you go for the more experienced institute, as it will prove to be better for your career ahead. You will get to learn new skills and take part in seminars and industry visits, to get a slice of the corporate world.

Ques
What should I opt if I'm getting HBTU chemical branch, IET lucknow lower branches or JSS Noida CS in terms of placement and environment?

● Top Answer By Sharmili Purohit on 06 Aug 21

Ans
HBTU and IET Lucknow both are government colleges and are considered to be tier 3 colleges whereas JSS Noida is a private institute and is considered a Tier 4 college. Normally tier 3 is favored upon tier 4 but in this case, JSS Noida is a very fine institute as of now both in terms of academics and placements. Private colleges like JSS Noida offer better opportunities and facilities than government institutes.  The placement HBTU and IET Lucknow are the same as JSS Noida.  Students from the CSE branch of JSS Noida get into well-based companies and MNCs and are offered packages far better than that of HBTU and IET Lucknow.  Normally students from HBTU and IET Lucknow get offered packages worth around 8-10 LPA.  This is the same with JSS Noida for other engineering courses but for CSE the packages reach up to 25 LPA. Students from Chemical engineering are not employed by any core companies in India as they are very few.  Categories Chemical Engineering at HBTU CS at JSS Noida Lower Engineering Branches at IET Lucknow Course Fee 5.17 lakhs 2.20 lakhs 3.44 LPA Highest CTC 17.3 LPA 23-25 LPA 9-10 LPA Average CTC 9 LPA 16 LPA 5-6 LPA Recruiting Companies Reliance, Tata, Pfizer, GlaxoSmithKline, etc. Accenture, IBM, Wipro, HCL, etc. TCS, CTS, Dell, Tech Mahindra, etc. CSE branch has more value than any other engineering branch. The best option would be CSE from JSS Noida rather than Chemical engineering from HBTU or other engineering branches from IET Lucknow.

Ques
Can we get HBTI Kanpur or IET Lucknow by just doing NCERT thoroughly?

● Top Answer By Vansh Gaba on 20 Aug 21

Ans
HBTI Kanpur and IET Lucknow offer admission through a state-level entrance exam known as UPSEE. Some sections of the entrance exam have direct questions referred from the NCERT books. Check the following points for subject-wise preparation: Chemistry: NCERT books are more than enough as it has every little detail explained very well. Just going through it well enough will be more than enough in the exam. None of the questions in this section are outside of the NCERT textbook. Physics: For the theory part, NCERT will be enough however, for the numerical, HC Verma will be a good addition along with the NCERT syllabus. The papers given in the back of the NCERT will give you an idea about the numerical. Maths: The NCERT textbook and the practice book will be enough for the regular chapters except for the calculus part. You can also refer to other well-known books like S.L Loni will be useful.  If your basics are clear and you have done enough practice for the exam, then you can easily score a decent rank in UPSEE. NCERT books will definitely help you cover all the topics in a simplified way and crack the exam.

Ques
Which one is better: Thapar or HBTI Kanpur?

● Top Answer By Anuradha Roy on 10 Aug 21

Ans
I have friends from both Thapar and HBTI, so I think I can answer this question. Thapar is a private university, so naturally, it has better infrastructure. HBTI, on the other hand, is one of the oldest institutions of the country and at the same time has gained much reputation among the students. It also has an extensive alumni network. Also, the chemical branch at HBTI Kanpur is well-known among students for its highly qualified and skillful faculty members. Here are the recent placement highlights of the institutes. Institute Thapar University HBTI Kanpur Average CTC 8 LPA 7.18 LPA Highest CTC 43 LPA 60 LPA Major recruiters IBM, Wipro, Infosys, D.E Shaw India, etc. Microsoft, Google, Oyo Rooms If you are aspiring for chemical technology or related branches then go for HBTI Kanpur and if you want to pursue some core courses then Thapar University is the best option.

Ques
Which is better option in terms of placement and standard of life, civil branch of hbti or mech of IET lucknow, reply with factual data?

● Top Answer By Sakshi Nathu on 05 Aug 21

Ans
I have a friend studying at IET Lucknow from the Civil branch. I will not be able to tell you about HBTI but I can guide you in the case of IET. The mechanical branch of IET is the best in the entire college in terms of studies. The faculty of the mechanical department is the best and you would not regret pursuing B. Tech in mechanical engineering from IET Lucknow. The faculty teaches better than what the students are taught in coachings (as per mechanical students). But as far as placement is considered, it is almost nil. The only companies that visit are from the IT sector. Even if a core company visits (rare chance), just a few students get placed. So, I would recommend you not to join IET if your parameters are good placements. Considering the college tag, HBTI is a renowned college but IET is also not unfamiliar. IET is well known among IIT professors. The following table shows the placement statistics of both institutions: Particulars IET (Mechanical) HBTI (Civil) Placement percent 30% 45% Highest salary INR 11 LPA INR 9 LPA Average salary INR 7 LPA INR 7 LPA Top recruiters Tata, Hero, Naini Papers Hindalco cement, Ambuja cement, LnT Being from IET is also not bad, though not comparable to being from Harcourt.

Ques
Is IIEST Shibpur better than HBTU Kanpur?

● Top Answer By Subhadra Nandi on 15 Mar 21

Ans
The answer is definitely yes as the Indian Institute of Engineering and technology is more than 60 years older than Harcourt Butler University. Both the colleges have rich heritage and have contributed immensely to the development of information technology in India. The prominent factors which make IIEST better than HBTU are : Alumni - IIEST has a more renowned base of alumni ranging from USA world’s Greatest Structural Engineer to reputed researchers, scientists, educators and professors. HBTU has not a very attractive list of alumni in the domain of information technology. Placement - The placement details of both the colleges are as follows: Categories HBTU IIEST Highest Package INR 60 LPA INR 39 LPA Average Package INR 7.18 LPA INR 10 LPA Number Of recruiters 40 111 Top recruiters Google, Microsoft, Oyo Rooms, IBM Microsoft, Wipro, Cognizant, IOL, Vedanta, HSBC Technologies HBTU offers a higher package but the number of individuals getting that package is very less. Also, the average package is less as compared to IIEST. It also attracts more core recruiters than HBTU. Curriculum - IIEST has an updated & dynamic syllabus as it has to keep at par with the standards in the market. It also holds top ranks in the research parameters in several domains. The allocation of funds by the government has also made it even easier. IIEST, therefore, makes a way ahead of HBTU due to various reasons but the choice can be easily influenced by other unmentioned factors like location, fee range, and scores in the competing examination.

Ques
I am getting admission in HBTI, IET Lucknow, and MIT Manipal. Which one should I choose?

● Top Answer By Divya Pandey on 06 Aug 21

Ans
All three are well-reputed colleges, but if you compare it with Manipal there would be a huge difference between HBTI and IET Lucknow. Having a few friends from the mentioned institutes here are some tips for you. Both HBTI and IET Lucknow have a decent faculty like MIT Manipal and even the fee is very less.  The diversity in MIT Manipal differentiates it from the rest of the colleges in India.  MIT Manipal and HBTI Kanpur have been ranked #45 and #166 by the NIRF respectively. Statistics – Particulars IET Lucknow HBTI Kanpur MIT Manipal Total fees 3.14 - 4.04 Lakhs 5.17 Lakhs 9.85 - 17.9 Lakhs Placement percent 65% 80% 85% Highest salary INR 30 LPA INR 60 LPA INR 28 LPA Average salary INR 6 LPA INR 6.5 LPA INR 7 LPA Lowest salary INR 3 LPA INR 6 LPA INR 3.5 LPA If it is very comfortable for you to afford a high amount of fees without any financial problem, then just go for Manipal, or else HBTI and IET are equally good but just that experience.

Ques
What should I prefer: Mechanical Engineering at HBTI, Kanpur or CSE at IET, Lucknow?

● Top Answer By Ajay Lakhra on 09 Aug 21

Ans
Both of the institutions are situated at a distance of 80 km from each other. IET Lucknow is situated in the industrial capital of Uttar Pradesh and the HBTI Kanpur is situated in the Political capital. If you live in one of the two cities, you can choose accordingly; otherwise, this factor has no significance. According to AKTU, both the institutes are ranked at number 1 and number 2 in UP, but the situation is completely different analytically. HBTI is a well-known institution and has been the parent institute of IIT Kanpur and Uttar Pradesh Textile Institute.  Both the institutes are government-run with complete control over examinations and the curriculum of courses offered by them. If you enjoy programming, Computer Science would be the appropriate course for you, while Mechanical Engineering is for those who want to acquire a genuine sense of what engineering is all about. The faculty of IET Lucknow is better than that of HBTI.  You will have numerous opportunities outside the campus. The placement statistics for the mechanical department are not very good at both institutes, but placement in the CS department is extremely good. Make your decision based on the branch and not the institution as it would have a major impact on your career.
