Candidates eligible for MCA will have to take the NIMCET for selection. The process for registering is given below:

I was admitted in computer science branch with rank of 18k and opening rank was about 15k and closing about 28k for general category. You can find the application form on the hbtu.ac.in 2500 was the registration fee and dates are announced on official sites. The admission process is quite hassle-free. After giving JEE Main, students can directly fill up the form for HBTU counseling, the date checking and form filling can be done on the following link:- https://hbtu.ac.in To be eligible for HBTU counseling, the applicant should have scored an aggregate of 60% (for general) and 55% (for sc/st/obc-ncl) in class 12th. Basic documents required for application are:- Aadhar card, classes 10th and 12th mark sheets, Migration or Transfer Certificate (any one of them), Domicile certificate (in case your parents are of UP domicile and you did your class 12th from any other state), Parents' income certificate (in case you apply for fee waiver seat for which your parents' income must be upto 6lpa), category certificate (in case you have category quota), Medical certificate. Reservation in HBTU is as 21% for SC, 2% for ST, and 27% for OBC. The admission process is already applicant friendly and does not need any improvement.

We got admission through jee mains. The opening rank of mechanical is 30k and closing was 90k for general candidates. Sc and st got reservations based on caste. After jee the main result counselling starts. I don't think there is a need for improvement in the admission process

To be eligible for the B.Tech course the student should have cleared 10+2 in PCM and the selection is based on the scorecard of JEE mains. The university releases its admission form on the official website and after completing the form proceedings and paying application fees of 1000 one would be allotted seats based on rank. The cutoff for CSE was approx. 22,000 rank for the general category.

So now I am in 2nd year of mechanical engineering. Students are required to pass jee mains. For mechanical, cutoff last year was 140000. Registration form is available on hbtu.ac.in. at Rs 2500. Counseling starts from August till first week of December. There are 4 main rounds 1 internal sliding and offline counseling.

I am in 2nd year of electrical engineering. So students are required to pass with a decent rank in Jee mains. You can fill out the application form in hbtu.ac.in. Counseling starts in the month of August and till the last week of November. The only area of improvement is query management during counseling time.

What should I opt if I'm getting HBTU chemical branch, IET lucknow lower branches or JSS Noida CS in terms of placement and environment?

HBTU and IET Lucknow both are government colleges and are considered to be tier 3 colleges whereas JSS Noida is a private institute and is considered a Tier 4 college. Normally tier 3 is favored upon tier 4 but in this case, JSS Noida is a very fine institute as of now both in terms of academics and placements.
Private colleges like JSS Noida offer better opportunities and facilities than government institutes.
The placement HBTU and IET Lucknow are the same as JSS Noida.
Students from the CSE branch of JSS Noida get into well-based companies and MNCs and are offered packages far better than that of HBTU and IET Lucknow.
Normally students from HBTU and IET Lucknow get offered packages worth around 8-10 LPA.
This is the same with JSS Noida for other engineering courses but for CSE the packages reach up to 25 LPA.

HBTI Kanpur and IET Lucknow offer admission through a state-level entrance exam known as UPSEE. Some sections of the entrance exam have direct questions referred from the NCERT books. Check the following points for subject-wise preparation:
Chemistry: NCERT books are more than enough as it has every little detail explained very well. Just going through it well enough will be more than enough in the exam. None of the questions in this section are outside of the NCERT textbook.
Physics: For the theory part, NCERT will be enough however, for the numerical, HC Verma will be a good addition along with the NCERT syllabus. The papers given in the back of the NCERT will give you an idea about the numerical.
Maths: The NCERT textbook and the practice book will be enough for the regular chapters except for the calculus part. You can also refer to other well-known books like S.L Loni will be useful.
If your basics are clear and you have done enough practice for the exam, then you can easily score a decent rank in UPSEE. NCERT books will definitely help you cover all the topics in a simplified way and crack the exam.

Thapar is a private university, so naturally, it has better infrastructure.

I have a friend studying at IET Lucknow from the Civil branch. I will not be able to tell you about HBTI but I can guide you in the case of IET.
The mechanical branch of IET is the best in the entire college in terms of studies.
The faculty of the mechanical department is the best and you would not regret pursuing B. Tech in mechanical engineering from IET Lucknow. The faculty teaches better than what the students are taught in coachings (as per mechanical students).
But as far as placement is considered, it is almost nil. The only companies that visit are from the IT sector. Even if a core company visits (rare chance), just a few students get placed. So, I would recommend you not to join IET if your parameters are good placements.
Considering the college tag, HBTI is a renowned college but IET is also not unfamiliar. IET is well known among IIT professors.

Both of the institutions are situated at a distance of 80 km from each other. IET Lucknow is situated in the industrial capital of Uttar Pradesh and the HBTI Kanpur is situated in the Political capital. If you live in one of the two cities, you can choose accordingly; otherwise, this factor has no significance.
According to AKTU, both the institutes are ranked at number 1 and number 2 in UP, but the situation is completely different analytically. HBTI is a well-known institution and has been the parent institute of IIT Kanpur and Uttar Pradesh Textile Institute.
Both the institutes are government-run with complete control over examinations and the curriculum of courses offered by them.
If you enjoy programming, Computer Science would be the appropriate course for you, while Mechanical Engineering is for those who want to acquire a genuine sense of what engineering is all about.
