Campus Life:

Campus life, as of now, is far away from good. Fests are treated as a formality only. Earlier it used to be good, but with the change in administration, things have not gone uphill. The library is one of the best, with a huge amount of books. Sports facilities are also quite good.

Hostel Facilities:

The hostels of Thapar Institute are good enough. There are facilities like proper Wi-fi, laundry system, proper drinking water system, good furniture with proper study tables, and good bed with cushions. All hostels have small separate grounds and gardens. The quality of meals is satisfactory. Breakfast consists of Eggs, Paratha, omelettes, Milk, Bourn-Vita, Coffee, Tea, Bread-Jam, and also some other food items. Lunch and Dinner have also a separate menu, which has a decent variety of menus available. The registration process for Hostel is very simple, just go to the hostel manager and fill out all the information, pay the fees, and confirm the hostel you want to stay in. Affordability is good, the fees are about 1LPA, including the mess fees. There are many PGs available near the college, but I don't know much about them.

Campus Life:

The campus life at the Thapar Institute is adequate. There are many fests held in our college. The annual fest is SATURNALIA which is conducted in any month of the odd semester. And also many tech fests are conducted every month. All the fests including SATURNALIA are gracious. The library of Thapar is huge and beautiful, with several books and journals available in it. If not, there are facilities for e-books, which are easily accessed by the students. These facilities are good and we don't need to buy any books on our own. Classrooms are decent with proper amenities available. The lecture hall is quite big, with a good sound system with proper reverberation of sound and also 2 big projectors. There are numerous amount of sports and extracurricular activities conducted on campus. Sports facilities are good, we may get any equipment with proper grounds and courts. There are many social groups and clubs run by students depending on the field of interest. URJA is one of them.

Ques
What are my chances of getting CSE in Thapar University with 72 in JEE Mains and 95% in CBSE?

● Top Answer By Vipul Mishra on 08 Jul 22

Ans
Getting CSE in Thapar University with 72 in JEE Mains and 95% in CBSE will be difficult. For CSE, Thapar University cutoff stays around 96 percentile. If you want to join the institute, you should take a drop year and prepare for JEE Main again. The required cutoff changes year to year, depending on different factors. So, try to score above 130 in JEE Main, to be on the safe side.

Ques
What are some unspoken rules at Thapar university?

● Top Answer By Dipti Gupta on 11 Aug 21

Ans
One of my friends is a student at Thapar University, and here are some of the things that I heard from him. This is subjective and hence may vary from one person to another. The official time for entry at the boys' hostel is 10 pm. However, if you maintain a good relationship with the security guard at the hostel gate, you can roam around the campus at any time of the night. The COS road is the most preferred one for going to the hostels. The reason is unknown though. After college, hanging around nearby momo stalls or any other stalls is better than hanging around at the college canteen. Irrespective of how much distance you travel, the fare for the rickshaw/ e-rickshaw remains the same which is Rs. 10. If there is a Lab class right after the lunch break, then you still have got 10 extra minutes to chill. The lab teacher may appoint ME students for evaluation so you should always be nice to the ME students. Some teachers are known for detaining students even in their 7th semester, never mess with them. These are some of the things that you should keep in mind.

Ques
How is the Electronics and Computer Engineering Branch of Thapar University in terms of faculty and placement and is it good to join thapar now?

● Top Answer By Tania Sharma on 12 Aug 21

Ans
ECE at Thapar University is more Hardware orientated. You may find yourself dealing with semiconductors for about 3 to 3.5 years. In addition to this, will be the onslaught of programming languages and a little portion of database and networking.  In case you opt for the Computer Science program, you'll notice that it is purely software-oriented and has a lot more on programming languages, architectures, databases,, and networking. ECE is the 2nd best option after CSE as its cut-off is just below it. This year, cut off score for ECE is as listed below: Particulars General Category (Outside Punjab) General Category (From Punjab) 10th Marks (PCM) 95.66% 85% JEE Main 2021 65.05 percentile 87.47 percentile As for placements, some well-known companies which visit for recruitment, are Texas Instruments, Whirlpool India, TCS, HP, Larsen and Toubro, ST Electronics, Philips, Mu Electronics India, and others. The placement rate is an amazing 99% for most of the departments. The highest package offered this year is 43 LPA and a total of 970 students got placed.

Ques
How are the ECE placements at Thapar University?

● Top Answer By Ashmita Khanal on 09 Aug 21

Ans
One of my friends is currently pursuing his Electronics and Computer Engineering at Thapar Institute of engineering technology, Patiala. Here are some snippets of his experience on campus so far.  The institute has a 300-acre campus of lush green. So, surviving here won't be an issue. The institute organizes great workshops such as Hydraulics, Web Development, and Circuit Building, etc. He said after one and a half months, he realized that the institute offers lots of opportunities, and grabbing them is what you have to do. The hostels are well-maintained and the food is good enough. Hostels have good Wi-Fi speeds ranging from 1.2 - 3 Mbps sometimes. Professors are quite cooperative and they employ new techniques for teaching. There is a well-designed playing area. There is a badminton court, tennis court, synthetic track, etc.  Juju’s Cafe, Pizza Nation, are some of the popular hangout places on campus. The rules and regulations are strict when it comes to discipline. Students are not allowed to leave campus after 7 pm. Hope this gives you an idea of what to expect at Thapar University.

Ques
How is the student quality at Thapar University?

● Top Answer By Orchid Gupta on 11 Aug 21

Ans
Thapar University offers admission based on the JEE Main cut-offs or merit basis. So, the quality of students is usually high.  The fee is a concern for students of Thapar as it has increased drastically to the level at par with BITS Pilani and others. But being a private institute, it does not get funding from the Government. So, the institute had no choice but to escalate its fee for up-gradation. The raised fee and seats had justified reactions from the students. There is a slight quality drop in the education, but it is not extreme to tarnish the institute's image. Such decline in quality is ordinary in the top institutes as well. common Overall, the institute has a decent bunch of students.

Should I prefer CS in Derabassi Campus or ENC in the Patiala Campus of Thapar University?

● Top Answer By Kriti Goyal on 10 Aug 21

Ans
A few of my friends graduated from both these institutes mentioned above and here are some things they shared about them. Though a lot of people have always discouraged the ones taking admission to the Derabassi campus. They feel the Patiala campus of Thapar University is far better. You can study hard and change your stream by scoring good marks in your first year. And there is always an option for personal counseling. Particulars Derabassi Patiala Total fees 13.23 Lakhs 13.23 Lakhs Placement percent 90% 80% Highest salary INR 22 LPA INR 25 LPA Average salary INR 9 LPA INR 6 LPA Lowest salary INR 4 LPA INR 3.5 LPA Top recruiting company Microsoft, Amazon, Accenture, etc. Apple, Microsoft, Google, JPMC, etc. You might get into CSE if your JEE mains score is above 75 in the last round. But even if you don’t, study hard in the Derabassi campus as it will not disappoint you no matter what others say or claim to know.
