For BE/ BTech specializations other than Biotechnology and Biomedical Engineering
- The candidate must have passed 10+2 with 60% aggregate marks in three subjects- Physics, Mathematics, and any one out of Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology and Technical Vocational subject*.
- The candidate must have passes Class 12 in 2021, 2022, or appearing in 2023.
- Must have appeared for JEE Main 2023.
- Posses a good moral character.
- Must be a citizen of India.
For BTech in Biotechnology and Biomedical Engineering
- The candidate must have passed 10+2 with 60% aggregate marks in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.
- Must have appeared for the NEET 2023 exam.

- Must be a citizen of India.
- The candidate must be born on or before October 1, 1997 (5 years relaxation in age is given to SC/ST/PH candidates).

TIET BTech/BE selection criteria involves admission through JEE Main/NEET, Class 12 merits, and highest scores in Class 12 boards. Below are the details related to Thapar University admission process for BTech:
- Mode 1: Based on JEE Main- 2023 percentile for 50% seats: 50% of the total seats are filled on the basis of percentile based on merit of JEE Main 2023.
- For BTech in Biotechnology and Biomedical Engineering, 50% of the seats are filled through NEET 2023 percentile. Remaining 50% seats are filled through Class 12 scores.
- Mode 2: Based on 10+2 marks in PCM for 50% seats: 50% of the seats are filled on the basis of marks secured in 10+2 or equivalent exam. The aggregate marks for selection are calculated on three subjects, namely, Physics, Mathematics, and any one out of Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology, and Technical Vocational subject.
- Top 5 candidates in Class 12 board: Candidates who are in the list of top 5 students in their respective Class 12 board are given direct admission. These candidates must appear in the JEE Main exam to become eligible. However, final merit list is prepared only on the basis of Class 12 percentile. These candidates must present a proof of being in the Top 5 to get admission.
In the final round of counselling, any seat remaining vacant through Mode 1 or Mode 2 are filled through Mode 2 or Mode 1 and Vice versa. For example, if there are seats available under Mode 1 criteria, seats are filled on the basis of Class 12 percentile. Admission to Thapar University BTech (Lateral Entry) is merit-based. Candidates scoring a 60% aggregate marks in relevant Diploma Degree are given admission to the second year of BE. After allocating all the seats to the candidates with diploma in relevant discipline, if there are any vacant seat, a maximum of 10% of the sanctioned seats is offered to the candidates having diploma in other discipline on the basis of merit of marks secured in Diploma.
