₹ 60,000It depends on the course. For technical and engineering courses, JNTUH is the better option. Osmania University is better for non-technical courses. It also has a good placement record. During the 2021 placement drive, three students from CSE, received placement offers from Microsoft with a placement package of around INR 41 LPA.
One of my friends graduated from JNTUH in Transportation Engineering. Here is his review of the M.Tech courses offered at JNTUH.
According to my friend, it’s better to keep JNTUH as your second preference. Choose Osmania University, if you have an option.
I know a few people from JNTUH and here is what I gathered from the conversations I had with them regarding the M.Tech admission process in Telangana State Universities like OU or JNTUH.
It is very difficult to get admission to state universities with 433 ranks unless you have a reservation or quota.
My cousin wrote the TS PGECET when he got the 50th rank in the exam. He was quite sure he will get a decent branch at JNTUH. However, after counseling, he got a VLSI design course in VNRVJIET.
We inquired about this and got to know that at state universities like JNTUH and OS, the priority is given to the GATE exam candidates, and then the leftover seats are given to TS PGECET rank holders.
If you want to join a state university I will suggest you write the GATE exam and try to get all India rank below 1000. If you want to study only at Osmania University then try to get all India rank below 5000 as there is a very high competition for this university because of nominal semester fees. Many students compete to join Osmania University because of its prime location in Hyderabad and very low tuition fee and hostel fee. There were even intense situations where students from NIT Warangal left their seats to join OS, for its location and low tuition fee.
So, if you want to do an M. Tech course in state universities in Telangana It is better to write the GATE exam and get a good rank in all India.
Telangana conducts its own state-level postgraduate entrance test called Telangana State Post Graduate Engineering Common Entrance Test (TS PGECET). However, for admission at Jawaharlal Nehru Technical University, Hyderabad, they give preference to students who have GATE scores rather than TS PGECET.
So this is very unpredictable and there is no certainty that you will even get a seat. The best thing you can do is score a rank in the top 50 in TS PGECET and hope. You may get less popular subjects such as Biomedical Engineering.
JNTUK University grads students using Semester Grade Point Average (SGPA) and Commutative Grade Point Average (CGPA). You can convert your CGPA to percentage using the following formula.
% of marks = (final CGPA - 0.5)*10
Students earn grade points (GP) in each subject/course on the basis of the grade they secure in that subject. The credit points are computed by multiplying the grade point by the credits for that subject or course.
Credit points (CP) = grade point (GP)*cradits
The semester grade point average (SGPA) is calculated by diving the sum of credit points secured in all subjects or courses registered in that semester, by the total number of credits registered during that semester. SGPA is rounded to two decimal places.
\(SGPA = {\sum_{i=1}^{N} C_iG_i} / {\sum_{i=1}^{N} C_i}\)
Where ‘i’ is the subject indicator index (takes into account all subjects in a semester). ‘N’ is the number of subjects registered for the semester. C is the number of total credits allotted to the ith subject, and G is the grade point received for the ith subject.
Commutative Grade Point (CGPA) is the measure of the overall cumulative performance of a student in all semesters. It is the ratio of total credit points secured by a student in all courses in all the semesters, and the total number of credits for all semesters. CGPA is also rounded off to two decimal places.
\(CGPA = {\sum_{j=1}^{M} C_j G_j } / {\sum_{j=1}^{M}C_j}\)
Where ‘j’ is the subject indicator index, ‘M’ is total number of subjects the student registered for. C is the number of credits allocated to the jth subject and G represents the grade points (GP).
Let's say a student scores 327 total credit points and the total credits are 42, then his/her CGPA will be - CGPA = 327/42 = 7.79.
So, % of Marks = (7.79 - 0.5) *10 = 72.9.
If you have missed the last date for applying for an Original Degree (OD) at JNTUH, you may still be able to apply for it by paying a late fee. However, the availability of this option and the amount of the late fee may vary depending on the rules and regulations of JNTUH.
It is advisable to contact the JNTUH Examination Branch or the concerned department at the earliest and explain your situation. They may be able to provide you with more information and guidance on what steps you can take next.
In some cases, it may not be possible to apply for an OD after the deadline has passed. In such a situation, you may need to wait for the next cycle of OD applications or explore other options such as applying for a duplicate certificate or transcript.
Doing an M.Tech in EC is better at JNTUH. Though Osmania University is an old institution with a history of more than 100 years, it lacks in PG and Ph.D. courses.
JNTUH on the contrary has a good reputation along with great infrastructure and strict guidelines in terms of the faculty members. The university cross-checks the background of each faculty member who will be teaching the students every year.
The following table shows a brief insight into both institutions:
Particulars | OU | JNTUH |
Placement percent | 70% | 80% |
Highest CTC | INR 20 LPA | INR 17 LPA |
Average CTC | INR 5 LPA | INR 9.5 LPA |
Lowest CTC | INR 2 LPA | INR 3.5 LPA |
Top recruiting companies | Infosys, CTC, BEL, Wipro Tech, BEML | TCS, Oracle, MRC, Vedanta, ZOHO |
In terms of curriculum, JNTUH follows the latest syllabus and has a strict attendance system. It has a biometric attendance system and you can be detained if you have less than 75% attendance. If you are looking forward for higher education in engineering, go for JNTUH.
IIIT Sri City is better than JNTU Hyderabad. It has a better peer group which is reflected in the higher cutoff requirements. IIIT Sri City follows the course structure and curriculum of IIIT Hyderabad. So, you will receive better learning and resources.
The institute has maintained an excellent placement record over the years. Companies such as Microsoft, Intel, Amazon, etc. take part in IIIT Sri City placements. The average CTC offered is around INR 6 LPA.
Both JNTUH and JNTU Kakinda are reputed. Both have their advantages. But if we compare the two based on infrastructural facilities, faculty, and campus placement then JNTUH is a bit better than JNTUK. However, the environment is better than that of JNTUH. Here is a brief comparison of both the institutes.
Parameters | JNTUH | JNTUK |
Average CTC | 9.5 LPA | 2.5 LPA |
Highest CTC | 17 LPA | 4 LPA |
Major recruiters | Amazon, TCS, Mathworks, etc. | Infosys, DXC Technologies, Cognizant, etc. |
JNTUH will also offer better opportunities if you are considering pursuing studies abroad. But if you want a job after graduation, then either of these two institutes offers decent opportunities.
The fee structure at JNTUH for the popular courses is as follows.
All the fees mentioned above are for the first year. The fee for IDDMP courses is INR 70,000 per semester.
The structure of the fees also depends on the reimbursement of the same and the Management Quota. The fee reimbursement candidates get an exception of fees of INR 35,000 and they will have to pay a fee of INR 65,000 a year.
The candidates in the management quota have an understanding with the college department that is mutual. The bracket price comes around to 4 or 5 lakhs once you have completed the degree.
