Faculty members are very supportive and the student ratio is 230:40(M: F). All the faculties have completed their studies at either IITs or NITs and there is no language barrier as well. due to covid in the last two sessions, the duration of our sessions is very short so there is a lot of pressure among students. We have 2 semesters(1st Year) in 6 months.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I chose this course as an outcome of the JOSSA counselling process. The faculty: student ratio here is quite good i.e.1:21, also the faculty here are supportive and understand the needs of the students, however, there are a few exceptions in every college which is evident. The quality of teaching is also superb and no complaints there but if you don't want to study then nothing can help you out. The exam here is like any other IIT or NITs, which is semester-wise [6 months], each having a mid-term, CA and end-term which if you study well can easily score well.

Placement, the average salary of 18.8 LPA for CSE, great coding culture, and the best dev society In CSE, faculty: student= 48:201 The qualification of faculties is amongst the best. They have a list of their research experience and degrees which seems to be very fascinating. But few of them are great teachers. Subrata Nandi, HOD of the CSE department is the sea of knowledge and is fully capable to give you and you may have a bottleneck with your grasping capabilities. If he teaches you any course, you can solve any problem related to that. He is the knowledge Ravana of software. Bibhash Sen, our nightmare, is the best teacher in Hardware Computer Science and also you will learn different things from him also. There are many great teachers. I cannot write about all of them. You will get an academic calendar for your course and you have to read well to pass examinations.

Ques
Which one is better, NIT Durgapur or IIEST Shibpur?

● Top Answer By Pritha Ghose on 20 Apr 22

Ans
Alumni and rank-wise, IIEST Shibpur is better. It is India’s 2nd oldest technical institute. It attracts talented students from all over the country. You will be among a competitive peer group. The environment on campus is great for learning.  It has an extensive alumni network, tanks to more than 165 years of legacy.  As far as placement goes IIEST Shibpur and NIT Durgapur offer similar opportunities. Tech giants like Microsoft, and Directi visit IIEST Shibpur placement. PSUs like Coal India also hire from core departments of the institute. The average CTC offered to the students is around INR 6-7 LPA.  Due to the above factors, IIEST Shibpur has a little edge over NIT Durgapur. But both are premier institutes and offer decent academic and placement opportunities.

Ques
Should I attend NIT, Durgapur; IIITM, Gwalior; IIIT, Amethi; or drop for IIT next year?

● Top Answer By Abhineet Garg on 04 Aug 22

Ans
You can take a drop year if you are confident that you will get IIT. But if you want to have options, it will be better to join IIIT Gwalior and prepare for JEE Advanced. The curriculum isn’t too demanding, you will have ample time for preparation. Also, this way you will have a backup.  IIIT Gwalior has an excellent coding culture. If you are interested in coding and have skills, you can get good placement offers.

Ques
Which college is best for an M.Tech in CSE, NIT Durgapur or IIIT Allahabad or IIITM Gwalior?

● Top Answer By Sudhir Verma on 29 Jul 21

Ans
If you are going to take admission for M.Tech in any of these colleges it will be worth the choice. All are quite established and are doing great in curriculum and placements. But there is always the best among the rest and hence, I would like to suggest you opt for NIT Durgapur. It beats both IIIT Allahabad and IIITM Gwalior. Also, regarding the two IIITs, IIIT Allahabad certainly does better than IIITM Gwalior in competitive programming and placements On the other hand, NIT Durgapur holds strong ties with IIT Kharagpur. The professors and students both are collaborating on various projects from both institutes. The alumni base of NIT Durgapur is also strong. It includes IIT Kharagpur graduates who have completed or are currently pursuing higher degrees at IIT. There is a better opportunity in NIT Durgapur as compared to others, in case you are prepared to utilize these. If you will seek placement after M.Tech, go for Allahabad. In case you are interested in research, I will recommend you to look at the faculty profiles in the respective departments, and make an informed choice. Categories NIT Durgapur IIIT Allahabad IIITM Gwalior Course Fee 1.32 lakhs 1.60 lakhs 1.84 lakhs Highest CTC 24 LPA 25 LPA 19 LPA Average CTC 8-10 LPA 12 LPA 11 LPA Recruiting Companies Wipro, Infosys, etc. Accenture, HP, etc. Capgemini, Cognizant, etc. It is suggested you go for NIT Durgapur. Definitely, do your side of research as well for a clear choice among all the three colleges.

Ques
Which is better: chemical engineering at NIT Trichy or computer science at NIT Durgapur?

● Top Answer By Sheetal Mehta on 03 Sept 21

Ans
It would be better to opt for Chemical Engineering at NIT Trichy. The institute will offer you a better faculty, upgraded infrastructure, a better peer group, and superior placements. If you are genuinely interested in chemical engineering then you have a lot of scope in NIT Trichy.  NIT Trichy is more developed as compared to the other NITs and offers a lot of exposure. Choose this branch only if you will further go for higher education in Chemical Engineering. The job opportunities right after graduation are very less and it would be difficult. However, if you are concerned about placements, then CSE will be the suitable option as the branch has a lot of opportunities.

Ques
Is NIT Durgapur better than Jadavpur University?

● Top Answer By Sreejita Gupta on 14 Sept 22

Ans
Jadavpur University is better than NIT Durgapur. In spite of being an NIT, NIT D fails to offer many basic facilities. The undergraduate laboratories are not well-maintained. The campus doesn’t have an active research interface for undergraduate degrees.  Jadavpur University students receive way better learning resources and guidance for higher studies. Located at the heart of Kolkata, there is better availability of coaching for competitive examinations. It offers better placements as well. More than 100 recruiting companies took part in Jadavpur University placements of 2022. The highest CTC offered this year was INR 1.8 CPA. Industry giants such as Apple, Facebook, Google, Amazon, etc. took part in the placement drive.

Ques
Where are placements better, IIEST or NIT Durgapur?

● Top Answer By Shivani Das on 30 May 21

Ans
Having friends in both the institutes, I can say that overall, NIT Durgapur is a better choice among the two. But IIEST is also an excellent institute with national importance.  There are several factors that affect the placement in both the institutes, according to them here are some -  IIEST is a famous and well-established institute in West Bengal, previously known as BESU. But, considering India, NIT Durgapur is more popular. The NIT tag itself is a highlight.  NIT Durgapur has several alumni in tech giants across the world. Students from IIEST are currently in IITs and IISc. This is due to their popularity for higher education.  Companies recruit fewer students from IIEST, as they have a tendency to leave jobs for better opportunities in higher studies. NIT Durgapur also has an excellent coding culture. This increases the chances of securing a job. Due to the increase in the number of seats at IIEST, the chances of placement are decreasing. The following table shows important statistics for both institutes: Categories IIEST NIT Durgapur Placement Percentage 80% 90-100% Highest CTC 39 LPA 33 LPA Average CTC 10-15 LPA 11 LPA Recruiting Companies TCS, Wipro, Wells Fargo, Deutsche Bank, etc. IBM, HCL, Infosys, ZS Associates, etc. NIT Durgapur is a more legit choice for students interested in placement than IIEST Shibpur.

Ques
Should I choose mechanical at Thapar University or metallurgy at NIT, Jamshedpur and Durgapur?

● Top Answer By Siddha Sharma on 06 Aug 21

Ans
I can only provide you with some basic facts about Thapar University. As some of my friends are from NITs, I can assure you that NIT Jamshedpur is definitely a good choice for Metallurgy.  It is an institution of national importance under the MHRD. The faculty members are good there. As far as placements are concerned, Tata Steel, Vedanta, Hindalco, etc. are some of the top recruiting companies. You can also sit for placements in IT firms and organizations. Metallurgy is one of the oldest branches all over India. It has great alumni support.  'Technica' is the oldest branch fest of NIT Jamshedpur. The new AC furnished labs on the campus are well maintained. Jamshedpur has enough industrial and research exposure through TATA Steel and National Metallurgical Laboratory. Categories Metallurgy at NIT Jamshedpur Course Fee 7.16 lakhs Highest CTC 20-25 LPA Average CTC 12-16 LPA Being one of the oldest and most reputed branches in NIT Jamshedpur, It is suggested that you go for Metallurgy. There is a huge scope in Jamshedpur as well as all over India.

Ques
What should I choose. 1. CSE Jadavpur University 2. B.Tech + M.Tech dual degree CSE @ IIEST, Shibpur 3. CSE @ NIT Durgapur?

● Top Answer By Ishika Biswas on 22 Mar 21

Ans
First of all, never compare Jadavpur University with NIT Durgapur for the Engineering stream. Second important thing is, people usually prefer B.Tech and M.Tech students over the one who has opted for Dual degree program. The reason for this is dual degree programs are not valuable in industry or research. Talking particularly about CSE, Jadavpur University is quite good and even better than the new IITs and most of the NITs. Among the given options, CSE at Jadavpur University is the best option to opt for. You will enjoy your studies here. You will have a good range of research projects. You will get abundant internship opportunities from here. Although placements at JU are not as great as compared to IITs, NITs, BITS, and IIITs.
