TIET M.Tech Admission 2023 is now open. Interested candidates can register online on the official website of the university for the same. Application fee for registration is INR 1500 per specialization. Candidates applying for more than one specialization are required to fill separate application forms and pay requisite application fee. 

TIET MTech/ ME admission is based on GATE scores. Candidates submitting a valid scorecard will be shortlisted for the PI round. For candidates applying to Thapar University MTech without GATE will selected for admission based on merit list prepared by the institute. First preference is given to GATE-qualified candidates. After offering seats to the GATE qualified candidates, admission to remaining vacant seats (if any) will be filled on the basis of merit prepared by giving 30% weightage to 12th marks and 70% weightage to B.E./B.Tech. marks (upto end of pre-final year).

Thapar University M.Tech Eligibility 

• First preference ineligibility will be given to candidates who have qualified for the GATE examination and have secured at least 60% marks in the aggregate in the qualifying examination from a recognized University. GATE cut-offs for the various branches will be published on the official website during an ongoing admission session. 

• If a student has not appeared on the GATE examination, admissions will be on the basis of merit list prepared by the institute. In such case, 30% weightage will be given to marks in 12^th class. 70% weightage is given to marks in BE/ BTech

In case M.Sc is a qualifying exam, the seats remaining vacant shall be filled on the basis of merit prepared by giving 50% weightage to B.Sc. marks and 50% weightage to M.Sc marks (up to the end of the pre-final year). An overall minimum of 60% (55% for SC/ST/Industry sponsored) in M.Sc. shall be required to be eligible for admission.

• Gate qualified candidates with B.E./B.Tech. in Electronics and Communication shall only be considered for admission on the basis of GATE score.
• Candidates who have passed Section B of the Institution of Engineers (India) or Grade IETE and have a minimum of three years of professional experience in a reputed organization are also eligible for admission to M.E./M.Tech. program in respective disciplines.
• An offline entrance test is conducted by the college for admission into M.tech courses for the students who have not appeared the GATE examination. The examination will include questions on general aptitude, subject knowledge, and mathematics.

How to Apply?

Applications to the Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology (TIET) is available online. Application for the TIET MTech/ ME program can be paid either through online mode or DD. Candidates paying application fee online need not to send the printout of the receipt. For candidates who are paying application fee through DD are required to send the printout (in favour of Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology and payable at Patiala) to “In-charge Admission Cell’ Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology, Patiala (Punjab)-147 004.

In addition to the MTech program, TIET also offers a 2 year ME program in 13 specializations. The minimum eligibility required is 60% marks in BE/ BTech. The year is divided into 2 semesters containing 23 credits each along with assignments and minor projects. The minor project continues for the first two semesters while the dissertation lasts the third and fourth semesters.

Thapar University M.Tech Fees

Thapar University MTech fees is INR 99,700 per semester excluding the hostel fee. The amount to be paid by students pursuing specializations other than CSED, ECED, MED, EIED is INR 89,500. Other fees including the hostel fee charges and one-time payment is given in the table below:

Note: 

• The Institute reserves the right to revise the fee and other charges at any point in time.
• In case a student under the M.tech program is able to score a minimum CGPA of 8.50 (without any backlog) or more at the end of the second year, the additional 50% fee charged in the first two years shall be reimbursed to him/her.
• Students admitted under the International Engineering Programme (IEP) shall pay the first two years at the rate of 1.5 times the normal fee mentioned in the above table.
• There are two additional deposits to be made by students interested in hostels, namely, a) Mess Caution Money (Refundable) of INR 4000 and Amenities fund per annum (Non-refundable) of INR 500

TIET offers a total of 300 seats in its MTech/ ME program for all the categories of students. The institute reserves 187 seats for General category, 55 for sponsored category, and 58 seats for SC/ ST category students. Discipline-wise seats allotted to each category is given below:

Thapar University M.Tech Placements 2021 has been completed so far. The 2020-21 M.Tech graduating batch comprised a total of 176 students. The batch strength increased by nearly 9.3% as compared to the previous year. 48 students got placed during the placement drive. 

Students received decent salary packages. The median salary received during the 2021 placement drive was INR 7.40 LPA which declined by 8.1% (approx.) compared to last year. Thapar University M.Tech highest ever salary package recorded was INR 40 LPA.

As we can see in the above table, the median salary received by the M.Tech students declined from INR 8 LPA to INR 7.40 LPA. The number of students placed also declined by 20.8% (approx.) as compared to previous year.

Thapar University MTech/ ME Scholarship

Students pursuing MTech/ ME degree at Thapar University are offered scholarships from AICTE and TIET itself. Details of the same are available below:

• Scholarship from AICTE: GATE-qualified candidates are given a certain amount as scholarship by AICTE. The amount given is approved by the funding agency or AICTE and can change every year.
• Scholarship from TIET: GATE- qualified who get scholarship from AICTE are given an additional amount of INR 5000 per month from TIET. GATE-qualified candidates who not getting any scholarship from AICTE are given INR 12,400 per month from TIET.
  • Non-qualified GATE candidates receive INR 10,000 per month for 10 months from TIET in an academic year. The minimum eligibility for this is 70% marks in qualifying degree (For example- BTech/ BE). In continuation to the scholarship, students passing first year with 8.00 CGPA no backlog in MTech/ ME are given INR 10,000 per month for next 10 months.
