To be eligible to study at NIT ROURKELA you have to qualify for JEE MAINS which is conducted by NTA. After that JoSSA conduct all admission process , if you crossed the cutoff percentile for admission you are allowed to choose your favourable college and branch and based on your percentile you get your alloted college and course. There is a quota for SC/ST/OBC and EWS through which you can avail reservation for seats.Students who are underprivileged or comes under less annual income get fee waiver from course fees, if your annual income is less than 5LPA you will get 2/3rd of course fee waiver and if it is less than 1LPA you will get 100 percent fee waiver in your course fee which is a very good attempt from institute. At the time of the physical admission process, there was a long queue of students, that was a big problem for me and I think that can be improved so that the whole process will become more smooth.

The admission process was straightforward, to be honest, I took the JEE mains exam and got 96.5 percentile and then applied for JOSAA and CSAB counselling to get admission here, The cutoff for my branch in the open other state category was my rank itself in the CSAb special second round but other branches have multiple cutoffs depending upon the category and rounds you are looking for. eligibility in my college is simply to have 75 per cent in 12th boards and you have to qualify JEE mains exam If you are a foreign student then depending upon your country of origin, there are multiple ways of getting admission here.

IIIT Allahabad is a better option compared to NIT Rourkela. An IT degree from IIITA offers better career prospects. According to the 2022 placement highlights of the institute, students received an average CTC of around INR 30.63 LPA. More than 80 companies took part in the placement drive, this year. EY, KPMG, Planet Spark, Vedantu, etc. were among the major recruiters in the placement drive.

You should choose NIT Rourkela for a B.Tech. It is a reputed NIT with a great placement record. NIT Rourkela placements 2022 had witnessed the average CTC of INR 20.88 LPA. The highest CTC offered this year was INR 46.08 LPA. Reputed companies such as VISA, Google, Apple, etc. took part in the placement drive.

If you are getting CSE/EE/ECE, you should definitely choose NIT Rourkela.

Among these, NIT Calicut is the best option for Computer Science and Engineering. On an overall scale, it is better compared to VNIT Nagpur and NIT Rourkela. NIT Calicut placements are around 100% for CSE. Reputed companies such as Amazon, Infosys, Cisco, and Microsoft recruit CSE students through the campus placements. The average CTC for the branch is around INR 17 LPA.

Is NIT Rourkela good, like NIT Trichy?

By Aaditya Hari Nairon 07 Sept 21

07 Sept 21B.Tech from National Institute of Technology, Rourkela (2020)

NIT Trichy is among the top 10 in NIRF Ranking while NIT Rourkela is still behind in the list. The infrastructure of both the colleges is decent.

The alumni collaboration is widespread for both institutes. However, NIT Trichy has a well-experienced faculty. In terms of management of various societies, clubs in the campus, extra co-curricular, and cleanliness are all exceptionally approved of by the students. If anything, it is top-notch at NIT Trichy.

NIT Rourkela cannot be compared with NIT Trichy when it comes to placements. The opportunities provided in NITT are tremendous and are far ahead of NIT Rourkela.

It is suggested to not go for NIT Rourkela unless you are opting for a core branch. NIT Trichy should be your priority in any situation.

26 Aug 21B.Tech CSE, NIT Calicut (2020)

I have a friend from NIT Calicut and he was able to provide some information regarding their M.Tech in Offshore Structure.

  1. Offshore structures are currently one of the most promising fields in the future along with transportation engineering.
  2. It requires thorough knowledge in subjects such as FEM, Mathematics, and mechanics to be a successful offshore engineer. Additionally, the offshore industry pays more than a normal Structural consultancy as the structures are highly compounded.
  3. A beginner Structural engineer may not get very good pay as they are in large numbers and currently supply is more than demand.

As for NIT Calicut, it boasts of an outstanding Civil Department. However, the placement offered by the institute may not be that good. But you can manage to get jobs through off-campus placements. You can earn a lot in the field as you gain experience.

How is NIT Rourkela?

15 Jan 22studied Chemical Engineering at National Institute of Technology, Rourkela (2021)

One of my friends studied at NIT Rourkela. According to him, the campus was really good and had many features that made it stand out among others.

Here are some facts about it:

  • They have a huge campus, the second largest in the country. The environment is clean and green, with all the necessary facilities found nearby the campus area.
  • The food here is comparatively costly than any other college at its level. It will take a bit of time to ease up on the food if you are an outstation student.
  • The academic pressure is not much. They only strictly monitor attendance.
  • The students are required to maintain a 75% attendance to be able to sit for the exams.
  • The faculty is average, they prefer students mug up theories than actually learn the content.
  • Labs are tough and have regular evaluation.
  • Here you will get a lot of exposure to extra curricular activities.
  • Many clubs are present like dance, drama, music, photography, social service, varieties of coding, robotics, aerospace club, vehicle designing club and many more.
  • These clubs teach you time management and enhance your skills.

The main rourkela city is about 7 kms from the railway station which has constant auto services. Rourkela has many restaurants, pubs and other hangout zones. They also have Vaishnodevi temple which students visit as the trip includes trekking and great viewpoints.

EEE in NIT Trichy is better than CS in NIT Rourkela. NIT Trichy is among the best NITs in the country and offers excellent academics and placements. Around 100% of students get placed from EEE every year. According to the recent highlights of NIT Trichy placements, students of EEE usually receive salaries in the range of INR 4-20 LPA. Microsoft, Uber, and HLS Asia are some of the major recruiters for the branch.

One of my friends told me that these three institutes must be in this order like; IIIT A>>> NIT Bhopal>= NIT Rourkela. Although he was a student of NIT Rourkela.

He stated that between these three, Rourkela and Bhopal are more or less equal. However, both of these institutes consist of some advantages and disadvantages as well.

If NIT Bhopal is considered and compared with NIT Rourkela, then it must be said that NIT Bhopal's strength is a large batch size; IT+CSE. But the main advantage of NIT Bhopal is the location and nearby airport transport facilities that conceal all the advantages of this institute. For this reason, NIT Bhopal experiences big recruiters every year, and NIT Rourkela misses this entirely. This is the reason why NIT Bhopal is one step ahead of NIT Rourkela.

Microsoft, Dell, PwC, Goldman Sachs, SAP Labs, Analog Devices, Myntra, Amazon, etc.

Amazon, Microsoft, Samsung, Capgemini, Deutsche Bank, Barclays, TCS, L&T, C-Dot etc.

However, at NIT Rourkela, M.Tech in Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) is almost similar to doing M.Tech in IITs. But in the case of Bhopal, the students can sit for placements for all the big companies in the campus recruitment process along with B.Tech companies. It will be better to avoid IIIT Allahabad for doing M.Tech in CSE, as placement opportunities in this institute are not good. This thing is that IIIT Allahabad does not allow M.Tech students to attend for placement in the on-campus recruitment process.

Thus, it can be stated that for the B.Tech course, IIIT Allahabad>> NIT Bhopal> NIT Rourkela.

How is CSE at NIT Rourkela?

One of my friends is a CSE student at NIT Rourkela. According to him the department is very decent.

  • The classes were held regularly, sometimes having 5 tests a day including viva sessions.
  • The faculty is highly experienced and cooperative.
  • The campus is really beautiful, and one of the best in the country.
  • The student crowd is diverse. They are also very competitive, which actually makes the educational environment engaging and better.
  • Placements here are a bit mediocre overall, but the CSE department has always shown promising results.

Lastly, keep in mind that here you have to study and learn on your own. Most of the teachers approve of mugging up theories rather than actually learning them in depth. So if you prefer to hustle to succeed in life, NIT Rourkela is the perfect place for you.

When it comes down to making a choice between institutes it is better to think point-wise before coming to a decision. Everyone wants a good institute to study in which has great academics and also has great placements along with extracurricular activities.

BITS Goa would be the better option here only if there’s no financial problem. NIT Rourkela is also one of the best NITs, but when it comes to CSE department BITS will take the lead here. BITS Pilani or the Goa campus would be more preferable over NIT Rourkela.

Categories NIT Rourkela BITS Goa BITS Hyderabad
Course Fee 6.4 lakh 19.19 lakh 19.19 lakh
Highest CTC 20 LPA 24 LPA 25 LPA
Average CTC 12-13 LPA 11 LPA 12 LPA
Recruiting Companies Amazon, Goldman Sachs, Infosys, SAP Labs, etc. Google, nVidia, DE Shaw, Arcesium, etc. Qualcomm, Cisco, Oracle, Texas Instruments, etc.

As of the current situation BITS, institutes have a high ranking place in our society with excellent academic records as well as placement stats. BITS Pilani is considered as an epitome of CSE engineering by most of the aspirants these days. Only the top 3 leading IIT’s are in comparison with BITS Pilani.
