In terms of getting selected, my cousin’s brother had a GPA of 9.47 at the end of the 6th semester. It although was not 9.5, yet it could be enough to put into consideration. It certainly is not difficult to obtain a GPA of 9.47. Speaking on behalf of the IT department, it can be tough acquiring high grades in the 1st year owing to a curriculum that ever since has been promoting rote learning.
Yet the answer would be that it clearly depends on numerous factors like an individual's interest in the course, the time that has been spent on it, and also the leniency of either professors or the departments.
However, if you are in Civil or Mining, then obtaining greater marks is comparatively much simpler than it is in other branches. Be that as it may, Chemical and EEE can have tremendously strict systems and professors, and at times, the grading factors get out of the box.
While simultaneously, few other departments have almost 50-50 professors who are not highly strict in terms of the course. Alongside all of that, the Mechanical and ECE basically also have a lot of competition among students.
The best way to settle among yourself this issue of GPA, you are required to put effort and painstaking hard work which however cannot be done overnight for most of the courses. The preparation of a student will definitely bring a decent 7.5+ grade point if worked properly.
My brother did his M.Tech from NITC. Here is his insight into the general placement scenario for MTech at NITs.
Over the years it has been seen that the placements for M.Tech students are comparatively less as most of the companies demand B.Tech graduates as the freshers or even experienced candidates. However, in some cases, M.Tech students are considered, like in research and development-oriented jobs. However, most industries prefer B.Tech over M.Tech.
After pursuing M.Tech your area gets narrower due to which the situation becomes very tricky for both the employers and the candidates applying for. As far as all the colleges are concerned the placement statistics are not so good for M.Tech students.
In the recent placement drives, the average CTC offered at NIT Warangal, NIT Trichy and NIT Surathkal were respectively 21 LPA, 6 LPA, and 11 LPA.

Honesty, discipline, and the values of the South Indian people and the states make them stand out. This might not be making sense to you, but will definitely try to elucidate the same here. Also, opinions vary among people.
One of my friends studied at NIT Trichy and he has lived in Hyderabad as well.
The students in these institutions are dedicated to learning and so are the teachers towards teaching. Moreover, the rules and regulations are followed strictly in these institutions.
At NITK Surathkal, Saturdays are holidays for all the students. In the first year, timings depend upon your section. It has about 23 hours of classes every week.
These can be:
The schedule can be altered as per the student’s convenience with the help of the class representatives (CRs). In the second year onwards, the schedule depends on the branch in which you belong. For example, the mining branch has 20 hours per week, CSE and ECE have 25-28 hours per week, while the mechanical department has around 35 hours per week. There are extra classes at the end of the trimester.
At NITK Trichy the college time is usually 8:30 AM - 3:10 PM. Sometimes, it may extend to 4-5 PM. There is a lunch break from 12:10 – 1:30 PM.
At MNNIT Allahabad the classes are held from Monday to Friday. Saturday and Sunday are holidays. In the first year, all students study general subjects from 9 AM – 5 PM. The lectures are 30 hours a week. In the second and the third year for the core subjects, the classes are 8 AM – 6 PM, i.e., 40 hours a week. The CSE/IT batch has only 25-30 hours per week. In the last year, classes are rarely held in the institute. The lectures are approximately 12-15 hours a week.
No, NITs are definitely not considered of the same level as the new IITs while applying to the US for an MS. But, the fact that IITs are the best brand in India and the second-best brand are NITs, is well known to the admission committees of most of the institutions.
Therefore, making it to top-notch universities is certainly possible; all that you need is good grades, a good GRE score, good SOP, and a few publications.
