₹ 2,50,000One of my friends attended IIIT Hyderabad. Following are some of the things that used to bother him.
Also, most people don’t know much about IIITs. So, you may have a hard time explaining the brand value of the institute.
Comparing IIIT Hyderabad and BITS Pilani cannot be done in terms of with as both are reputed institutes. However, they can be compared on the basis of individual parameters.
For instance
Now it’s up to you to decide which factor will affect you the most. In my opinion choosing IIIT Hyderabad over BITS Pilani is a no-brainer as IIIT Delhi is the best when it comes to CSE. Its curriculum is designed exceptionally well. Apart from this, it fairs well in terms of modern technology, infrastructure, faculties, placements, and greater opportunities for higher studies and research. The only institutes that give IIIT Hyderabad an edge are IIT Bombay and IISc Bangalore. You are bound to gain a lot of fun experience and knowledge at IIIT Hyderabad and won’t regret joining it ever.
However, this definitely does not mean BITS Pilani is not any good. It’s just that the outcomes offered by both institutes are different. If you want to go for MBA or Government Services in the future, BITS Pilani is a good choice as it offers a wider range of opportunities in contrast to CSE at IIIT Hyderabad which is suitable only if you want to stay in this field till the end.
It may not be a good idea to attend IIIT Hyderabad's artificial intelligence and machine learning certification program. A friend of mine enrolled in this program. According to him, very few classes are taken by IIIT Hyderabad professors.
The teaching methodology used is old school. If you ask a doubt, you will be given a rhetorical answer most of the time.
There are teaching assistants who are responsible for taking daily tests and lab sessions. But most of them, don’t have much idea about the subject matter. You can get many good PGP courses online in the same fee range.
Over the past few years, the Earth has become a global village and technology has been developing at a fast pace. Software Engineers are among the most demanded professionals. That being said, IIITs are slowly and increasingly becoming more preferred than IITs because their curriculum revolves around CS precisely. Their curriculum is highly industry-relevant meeting all demands of the branch.
Now one might ask, why aren’t IITs as successful as IIITs in terms of CS? Well, the major reason is that IITs have a variety of departments not making it possible for the students to focus on one branch. You will see someone from another department like Chemical or Civil competing for a job in the CS or IT sector.
IIITs on the other hand have only 2 departments, CA and IT. The curriculum is crisp and focuses on these two branches only. You don’t have to sacrifice your branch here and can pursue your passion in CS and IT only. Today IIIts CS curriculum gives a considerable edge to IIT Bombay’s CS branch. This is why, IIIT Hyderabad is preferred over IITs today.
Any institute’s reputation is built by its alumni. IIITs are established later compared to all major technological institutes in the country. This is perhaps the major reason why IIITs are underrated. IIIT Allahabad and IIIT Hyderabad are around 20+ years old. In spite of being comparably new, IIIT Allahabad is constantly ranked among the top technological institute in the country for IT.
The admission criteria for IIIT Hyderabad through JEE Main exam is based on multiple factors, such as the difficulty level of the exam, the number of applicants, the availability of seats, etc.
However, to get admission to IIIT Hyderabad, candidates need to clear the JEE Main exam and secure a good rank in it. Generally, the cutoff for IIIT Hyderabad through JEE Main is relatively high. For the year 2021, the cutoff for admission to IIIT Hyderabad through JEE Main for Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) was 1064.
It is important to note that the cutoff varies every year depending on various factors. Hence, it is recommended to aim for a higher score in JEE Main to increase your chances of getting admission to IIIT Hyderabad.
Although IIIT Hyderabad has many excellent professors. But there is one professor, who is a pure gem. He can actually change the way you look at and solve Mathematics. He is none other than Dr. Kannan Srinathan. His ever-smiling face and his ability to simplify even the most complicated concepts in a much simpler way will surely make you fall in love with Discrete Mathematics, the course he mastered in.
Yegnanarayana is also quite popular among students. He teaches Speech Signal Processing and Artificial Neural Networks. He prepares for his lectures for 2 hours, although he has been teaching for 40 years.
My brother is a student of MSIT at IIIT-H and the following points are his experience at the institute:
Hope you find this helpful.
IIIT Hyderabad offers an excellent CSE program. It is comparable to IIT Bombay/IIT Delhi’s CSE program. It has a great coding culture. Due to the locational advantage, it’s easier to get projects, internships, and placement opportunities. The college stands out with a 100% placement rate for CSE. Apple, Google, Microsft, Pocket Gems, etc. recruits from the campus drive.
After reading some reviews online, I can say that, if you want to be a data scientist, ISI Kolkata would be a good choice. In fact, it is said to be the top college for aspiring data scientists. This would definitely open up a lot of opportunities.
Categories | M.Tech CS at BITS Pilani | M.Tech CS at IIIT H | M.Tech CS at ISI Kolkata |
Course Fee | 8.92 lakh | 5.60 lakh | 40,000 |
Highest CTC | 16 LPA | 19 LPA | 12-14 LPA |
Average CTC | 9 LPA | 8-10 LPA | 6 PA |
Recruiting Companies | Wipro, CTS, etc. | Infosys, Capgemini, etc. | TCS, IBM, etc. |
However, if you want to be a developer, the ISI M.Tech CS program falls short of IIIT-H and BITS Pilani CSE. I believe IIIT-H and BITS Pilani offers similar opportunities for software developer positions.
