Course Details

The Indian Institute of Management Amritsar (IIM Amritsar) and the Indian Institute of Technology Ropar (IIT Ropar) are jointly offering a new MSc program in data science and management. The program will commence in July 2023. The Indian Institute of Management Amritsar and the Indian Institute of Technology Ropar together provide the full-time, residential Master of Science (M.Sc.) in the "Data Science and Management" curriculum. Each academic year has two semesters that begin in August or September. The majority of businesses and industries nowadays largely rely on conclusions that may be drawn from the enormous amount of data that is readily accessible, which has caused a sharp increase in demand for highly qualified data scientists.

IIT Ropar MSc Data Science and Management Eligibility Criteria

The minimum eligibility criteria for candidates are listed below:

60% or 6.0 CPI/CGPA or First Class, as defined by the awarding university or institute, in the qualifying degree.
The qualifying degree shall be any accredited and approved Bachelor's or Master's degree or any other equivalent degree, preferably involving management, mathematics, computer science, or allied fields. Candidates must have an aptitude in mathematics or computer science.
A test score of either CAT/GATE/GMAT/GRE/JAM from the past three years as from 31-July-2023.
Candidates who have appeared in any of the above tests and have yet to receive the results can apply, provided the results are submitted to the program office by 5th June 2023.
Shortlisted candidates will be called for a Personal Interview.

IIT Ropar MSc Data Science and Management Selection Criteria

Shortlisted candidates will be invited for Personal Interviews (PI). Based on the score obtained from the PI, previous academic performances, gender diversity, and work experience, a composite score will be created for the selection of candidates for the program. The weightage for the parameters is given below:

For final-year candidates, their incomplete qualifying degree score would be taken in lieu of their final graduation score if the final graduation score is pending. Incomplete or intermediate graduate scores are considered only if the candidate's final graduation score is pending.
The admission to the program is contingent on the successful completion of the qualifying degree, and the proof for the same has to be submitted latest by 05-June-2023; failing the same would result in the termination of the participant from the program.

IIT Ropar MSc Data Science and Management Total Intake

The program is expected to accept 60 students in its first year (taking into account all reservation requirements as outlined in the IIM Act 2017 by the Government of India).

IIT Ropar MSc Data Science and Management Course Curriculum

A variety of courses from the fields of management, statistics, data analytics, algorithms and data structures, and information systems are included in the curriculum, which was co-developed by IIM Amritsar and IIT Ropar.
Four semesters will be used to spread out the two-year program's delivery. The students will be housed at each institution for a year (first year at IIT Ropar and second year at IIM Amritsar), with co-teaching by faculty from both host institutes.
During the break between the second and third semesters, students will have the option to work on a project with a company or with academic professors from reputable institutions in India or overseas through the Summer Live Project (SLP). The students themselves must complete the summer live project.
In addition to the coursework, the fourth semester will also include the Final Capstone Project. One faculty member from IIM Amritsar and one faculty member from IIT Ropar will serve as the project's directors. To finish the program, the project must be completed successfully.

Ques.What is the duration of the program IIT Ropar MSc Data Science and Management?

Ans.The M.Sc. in Data Science and Management program is a residential two-year course of study. There are four semesters in the entire program. The first and second semesters will be spent by the students at IIT Ropar, and the third and fourth at IIM Amritsar. IIM Amritsar and IIT Ropar faculty will instruct the students throughout the program.

As per my sister’s experience, the people on campus were very friendly and she completed the registration process easily. The Civil Engineering dept. at IIT Ropar believes in growing as well as standing out. The Head of the Department, Professor Deepak Kashyap is a highly experienced member of the faculty and has taught at IIT Roorkee. The students look up to him a lot. If we talk about the infrastructure, then new and advanced labs have been commissioned. In addition to that, a state-of-the-art Soil-Water-Plant lab has been set up which covers an area of 2.5 acres in the new campus. A number of text and reference books journals for research have been procured by the institute to be made available for the students for their convenience. The faculty is in constant interaction with the authorities of the Government of Punjab for organizing activities that involve collaboration. They have already conducted several studies in consulting and also building a training program for PUDA engineers.
