IIM Ahmedabad runs the two-year PGP, the best known MBA in India. It is a full-time campus programme in Vastrapur, Ahmedabad. The batch that joined in June 2026 has 414 PGP students. The full programme fee is INR 27.50 Lakhs for two years, and your room and mess sit inside that fee. The audited Class of 2025 report shows average guaranteed pay of INR 29.84 LPA, so one year of pay is worth more than the whole fee. The only door in is CAT, and for General students the floor is 95 percentile overall.

Who can apply

You need a bachelor degree in any subject with at least 50% marks. SC, ST and PwD students need 45%. Final-year students can apply and hold a provisional seat. There is no age limit. After that, CAT decides.

How you get in

First clear the percentile floor for your category. IIMA then builds a shortlist score from CAT (65%) and an Application Rating (35%) that reads your Class 10 marks, Class 12 marks, degree marks, work months and gender diversity. Shortlisted students write the AWT, a short writing test, and sit a Personal Interview. The final call weighs interview 50%, writing test 10%, CAT 25% and Application Rating 15%.

Money help

The main scheme is the IIMA Special Need Based Scholarship. Family income below INR 15 Lakhs opens the door, and the amount is set case by case. SC and ST students on lower income can get their full tuition paid by central schemes. The last block of this page works all of it out for you.

Should you pick PGP at IIM Ahmedabad?

Pick it if:

You can reach 95 percentile overall in CAT and 85 in every section. That is the General floor and there is no way past it. You want the pay to beat the fee: average guaranteed pay of INR 29.84 LPA is more than the full INR 27.50 Lakhs fee. Your family income is under INR 15 Lakhs, so institute aid can cut that fee for you.

Skip it if:

Your percentile sits under the floor for your category. IIMA will not shortlist you, however strong your marks are. You cannot fund INR 27.50 Lakhs and your family income is above INR 15 Lakhs, which closes institute aid. You want to keep your job. The PGP is a full-time campus programme with your room on campus, not a weekend course.

PGP Eligibility

Degree needed: Any bachelor degree with at least 50% marks. SC, ST and PwD students need 45%.

Still in final year: You can apply now. Your seat stays provisional until you show your final marks.

Exam accepted: CAT only. A GMAT or GRE score does not work for the PGP.

CAT floor by category: General and EWS need 95 overall and 85 in each section. NC-OBC need 90 and 80. SC need 85 and 75. ST need 75 and 65. PwD General need 85 and 75.

Age limit: None. Freshers and working people sit in the same batch.

PGP Admission Process

Step 1, take CAT: Fill the CAT form on the exam site and sit the paper in November.

Step 2, clear your floor: Your overall and your section percentiles must both cross the floor for your category.

Step 3, shortlist score: IIMA mixes CAT (65%) with an Application Rating (35%) built from Class 10 marks, Class 12 marks, degree marks, work months and gender diversity.

Step 4, AWT and PI: Shortlisted students write the AWT, a short writing test, then sit a Personal Interview with faculty.

Step 5, final call: The offer weighs interview 50%, writing test 10%, CAT 25% and Application Rating 15%.

In 2021, the required cutoff for IIM Ahmedabad was 99-100. But just scoring 100 percentile in CAT, won’t get you an interview call. You must satisfy the eligibility criteria in terms of 10th, 12th, Graduation marks, and CAT percentile. The shortlist for an interview is made by considering past academic performance and CAT percentile. So, if your past academic record is poor, you may not get a call for an interview, even with a 100 percentile.

Every student with a gap year in their resume should be prepared for the question - ‘Why did you take a gap year?’, during your interview. The interview panelists are genuinely interested to know how you made the most of your break. You should be honest while replying to this question. You can simply answer that you needed more time for preparation.

During your break year, you can do volunteer work during weekends or learn something new. If you opted out of campus placements, you can do research projects or internships with your professor. You can do some certification or take examinations, in your field of interest, such as CFA/FRM. These will help showcase that you have spent your time productively.

There is no proper procedure. If you want to visit the campus, you can make an entry in the register at the gate. It will be even easier if you know someone from the campus. Guards at the gate aren’t too finicky about people who want to get inside to see the campus. Although they stop those who are coming by vehicle.

The average CTC offered during 2021 placements was INR 25 LPA. Course fee at IIM A is comparably higher than ISI Kolkata. IIM A fees for this academic year are INR 22 lakhs.

Life at IIM Ahmedabad is much more than academics.

A typical day on the campus starts around 8:15 am for most students. They usually grab something to eat on their way to class. The lectures start at 8:45 am sharp. If you are late, you won’t be able the attend your lecture that day.
Lectures go on till 1:10 pm. Students spend around 45 minutes wondering whether they have a surprise quiz that day or not. The notification regarding the surprise quiz comes around 1:45 pm from the academic office. Students who get quizzes start last min prep. Others enjoy their lunch. Quiz usually goes on till 3:15 pm.
During afternoon, some take a nap, some students engage in club activities or sports.
After dinner, students do their assignments, group projects, class preparation for the next day. This usually takes up until 2 am, even some more time on certain days.

This is how the cycle repeats.
