Topic:The bar charts below show the Marriage and Divorce Statistics for eight countries in 1981 and 1994.
Write a short report for a university lecturer describing the information shown below.

Band 6.5 Essay

The provided bar graphs display data on marriage and divorce between the years of 1981 and 1994 in eight different countries. As can be seen from the presentation, the divorce rate has increased in five out of the eight countries, while marriage rate has decreased over time in all but Denmark.

According to the bar graph, the United States had the highest marriage rate of the four countries in 1981, at more than 10 per thousand. In other European nations, such as the United Kingdom, Finland, France, Italy, and Denmark, there were roughly 6 marriages for every 1,000 people. In 1981, Denmark had the lowest marriage rate roughly 5 per 1,000 people. With the exception of Denmark, where the rate rose by nearly 2 per 1000 after 15 years, all of the given countries saw a decline in the marriage rate. Japan was the only country in Asia where the marriage rate barely changed.

According to divorce statistics, the USA had the highest divorce rate at more than 4 per 1,000 people. In every nation but the United States and Denmark, the divorce rate rose in 1994 compared to the rate in 1981. Italy had the lowest divorce rate of the mentioned nations, and Germany's divorce rate remained stable for the two years.

Band 7.5 Essay

The provided bar graphs compare marriage and divorce statistics between 1981 and 1994 for eight different countries.

In conclusion, it can be seen that while marriage rates declined in seven of the countries, they increased in Denmark. The number of divorces decreased in the USA and Denmark.

In terms of marriages, the USA recorded just over 10 per 1,000 people in 1981 before experiencing a sharp decline to around 9 in 1994. Despite declining, both percentages (10 and 9 per 1,000 people) were the highest overall for the time period. Similar declining trends, which in 1994 typically ranged from 1 to 3 per thousand people, were also seen in the remaining nations. However, from 1981 to 1994 in Denmark, there was a sharp increase from 5 to 7 per thousand people.

Even though it fell from 5.5 to 4.5 per thousand people, the USA once again outperformed the world in terms of divorce rates from 1981 to 1994. Italy, on the other hand, had the fewest divorces, with almost none. While the divorce rate in Denmark barely decreased during the relevant period, it moderately increased in all other countries. Intriguingly, from 1981 to 1994, the rate in Germany plateaued at 2 per 1,000 people.

Band 7 Essay

There are two bar graphs with one showing statistical information on marriage, and the other showing the number of divorces per thousand people over a 13-year period in eight different countries.

In all the countries analyzed, the marriage rates had decreased, with the exception of Denmark, where they had increased. Over the years, the USA has the highest rate of marriages among the countries mentioned. In 1981, slightly more than 10 people out of every thousand were married in the USA. Even though the number fell in 1994, the US still held the top spot with 9 marriages for every 1,000 people. With six marriages out of a thousand, Denmark was the next in line for the same year.

The divorce rate increased from 1981 in five of the eight countries, according to the divorce chart. Divorce rates in Germany were stable at two per 1,000, compared to declining rates in Denmark and the USA. Even though Italy has one of the lowest divorce rates in the world, less than 0.1% over the years, it has increased by more than twice as much.
