IELTS General Writing Task 1 assesses candidates willing to work or migrate abroaD. There are three types of questions in IELTS letter writing including- formal, informal and semi-formal. Candidates need to write 150 words in 20 minutes. Candidates should use the proper tone of writing IELTS letter and should actively practise letter writing. In IELTS general writing task 1, candidates are assessed based on these following abilities-

  • engage in personal correspondence
  • elicit and provide general factual information
  • express needs, wants, likes and dislikes
  • express opinions (views, complaints etc.)

Question Types in GT Task 1

In order to excel in their letter writing, candidates need to ensure that they have effective strategies for IELTS GT Writing Task 1. Accordingly, it is important that candidates follow IELTS Writing Tips that would help them prepare for their exam actively. Following are the tips that can be found useful for the candidates.

  • Candidates may write 160 – 180 words but not more than that
  • Focus on the relationship you share with that person as that will decide the tone of the letter

  • Divide the letter into paragraphs that include an introduction, problem / present situation, solution /action, and conclusion.
