Band 8 IELTS Letter

Dear Manager,

I am writing to bring to your attention an issue I encountered during my recent stay at your hotel. I stayed in Room 201 from 23rd December 2022 to 26th December 2022. Unfortunately, the weather during my stay was quite unusual for the time of year. And the heating/cooling system in the room was inadequate to cope with the conditions.

The room was uncomfortably warm and I found it difficult to get a good night's sleep. I tried to adjust the thermostat, but it seemed to have little effect on the temperature. I also opened the window, but the noise from the busy street outside made it impossible to sleep.

To overcome the problem, I had to use the hotel's spare blankets to try and keep cool during the night. I also had to purchase a portable fan from a nearby store to help circulate air in the room.

I understand that the weather conditions during my stay were unusual. But I believe that the heating/cooling system in the room should have been able to cope with them. I would like to request that the hotel conducts an inspection of the room's heating/cooling system. Further, makes any necessary repairs or upgrades to ensure that future guests do not experience the same discomfort.

Additionally, I would appreciate some form of compensation for the inconvenience caused by the inadequate heating/cooling system. This could be in the form of a refund or a discount on a future stay at the hotel.

I hope that the hotel takes this matter seriously and that steps are taken to prevent similar problems from happening in the future. Thank you for taking the time to read my letter.

Sincerely,
Swapneel Bagal

Band 7 IELTS Letter

Dear Ankit,

I am writing to express my dissatisfaction with my recent stay at your hotel in Vizag. Specifically, I was disappointed with the heating and cooling system in the room that I was assigned.

During my stay, the weather was quite unusual for the time of year and it was much colder than I had anticipated. Unfortunately, the heating system in the room was inadequate and I found it difficult to keep warm. Despite adjusting the thermostat multiple times, the room remained uncomfortably cold. This made it difficult for me to sleep and I ended up having to use extra blankets and clothing to try to stay warm.

To overcome this problem, I had to leave the room several times to try and find a more comfortable temperature in the hotel's common areas. I also had to purchase an additional space heater, which added an unnecessary expense to my stay.

I would like to request that the hotel take action to improve the heating and cooling system in the rooms. I understand that weather can be unpredictable. But I believe that the hotel should be prepared for such situations and provide a comfortable environment for its guests. I would appreciate a response to this letter and some assurance that steps will be taken to improve the comfort of future guests.

I have been a loyal customer of your hotel chain for a long time and I have always had a positive experience in the past. But this recent stay has left me feeling disappointed and I hope that you will take the necessary steps. These steps are in order to ensure that other guests do not have to experience the same issues.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,
Venupati Iyer

Band 6.5 IELTS Letter

Dear Mr. Victor,

I am writing to bring to your attention an issue that I experienced during my recent stay at your hotel in Goa. Despite it being [time of year], the weather was unseasonably cold and the heating system in my room was quite inadequate.

As a result, my room was either too hot or too cold, making it difficult for me to sleep or get comfortable. I had to constantly adjust the thermostat or open the window, but neither solution proved to be effective. I also tried using the room fan, but it did not have much impact on the temperature either.

To overcome the problem, I had to purchase my own portable air conditioner/heater which added extra cost to my stay. I also had to spend more money on extra blankets and earplugs to help me sleep through the uncomfortable temperature.

I am disappointed that such a basic amenity as proper temperature control was not provided in the room. I would like to request that the hotel take steps to ensure that this problem does not happen again in the future. This could include regular maintenance of the heating and cooling systems, or providing portable air conditioners/heaters in the rooms during extreme weather.

I would appreciate it if you could let me know what actions the hotel will take to address this issue. I would also like to request a refund or credit for the additional expenses that I incurred as a result of the inadequate heating and cooling system in my room.

Thank you for your attention to this matter. I hope to have the opportunity to stay at your hotel again in the future, but only if these issues are addressed.

Sincerely,
James
