Topic: You have invited your English-speaking friend to a family wedding and reserved a room at the hotel for him/her as you agreed before. You won’t be able to meet him/her at the airport. Write a letter to your friend, describing:

  • the reason why you can’t meet him/her,
  • how he/she can get to the hotel from the airport,
  • the hotel where you made the reservation.

Band 7 IELTS Letter

Dear Ray,

On Friday morning, I am looking forward to your arrival. Unfortunately, I will not be able to pick you up from the airport as scheduled due to unforeseen circumstances. I am recommending alternative routes to get you to the hotel I have reserved for you because I have an unavoidable business meeting that I can't avoid.

Hiring a cab from the area outside the airport might be one option. If you have a lot of bags, choosing that would be the most practical alternative. Catch the city bus from the airport, nevertheless, if you're only bringing a little amount of luggage. The cost savings would be substantial. I apologise sincerely for this unexpected turn of events. The hotel is called Mount View, and it's located around 30 kilometres from the airport. But it's extremely close to my house. Ordinarily, I would have preferred that you stay at my house, but there are already a lot of people there for the wedding. So, I've reserved a hotel for your comfort. You can experience some of our diverse cultural traditions at the event in the family. While you are here, I have a tonne of additional activities planned for you. You absolutely must see several historical locations. Hopefully I'll see you soon!

Truly,

Rahul

Band 7.5 IELTS Letter

Dear James,

It makes me happy to learn that you have finally decided to travel to India to attend my sister's wedding. I have planned everything for your stay at the Taj, a five-star hotel close to my house. The hotel is opulent and has all the amenities you could want. Most importantly, as the money was already paid at the time of booking, you are not required to make any payments at this hotel.

I won't be able to meet you at the airport due to some unforeseen situations; you will need to travel on your own to the hotel. This is due to the medical care that my mother is receiving. And I'll be completely preoccupied with looking after her medical needs at the hospital. Being the eldest child, I also have a lot of obligations to make sure that the marriage of my sister is properly arranged. Given that it is a well-known hotel in the area, I am certain you won't have any trouble finding it. Additionally, it is only around 10 kilometres from the airport, and you can immediately get a taxi there as you arrive. When you arrive at the hotel, ask the receptionist for your room keys right away. I look forward to meeting you soon; if your plans change, just let me know.

Lovingly,

Tarun

Band 8 IELTS Letter

Dear Sarah,

I am eagerly waiting for your arrival on Monday morning. Unfortunately, owing to unplanned issues, I will not be able to collect you up from the terminal as planned. I'm suggesting other routes to bring you to the lodging I've booked for you. Due to an unavoidable job assignment that I must complete, I will be unable to pick you up.

One choice might be to call a taxi from the region outside the airport. Getting that would be a very useful option if you carry a lot of baggage. However, if you're only carrying a little bit of luggage, take the metro bus from the airport. The financial savings would be significant. I truly apologise for this unanticipated turn of events. For you, I've reserved a room at the Tulips Hotel. The hotel is lavish and has every amenity imaginable. Most significantly, you are not obliged to make any payments at this hotel because the bill is already paid at the time of booking. It's very near to where I live. You will have no difficulty locating it since it is a well-known hotel in the region. I am excited to meet you. I genuinely hope you like the wedding customs as well. If you require additional information, please let me know.

Faithfully,

Aisha
