Others believe that instead, they should invest in training top athletes to win major competitions. Discuss both points of view and give your own opinion.

IELTS Band 7 Essay

Some people believe that the government must invest more money in training athletes. On the other hand, others disagree with this idea and think that this money should be used to build public sports facilities. In this essay, I will explain both of these views and justify the reason.

The government and the authorities provide sports facilities to assist athletes. These facilities include an excellent coach, accommodation and nutrition for diet. The hard training and practice sessions can help them become better athletes. These athletes will have the potential to fight with competition. Every country selects their best athletes to go for world class competition. These facilities will help improve their skills and become a winner on the world stage. This increases the reputation of the country and also brings revenue.

On the other hand, I also feel that the state needs to do something for the common people. If the state prepares a budget to construct a public sports facility, it will help the population have a place to go to exercise. This will bring up new athletes and sports stars. Not only that, people will achieve better health and will be in good shape. This will help people to reduce the risk of unhealthy and obese life. Many new starts and future athletes will come up. They will be able to train and make their life out of sports.

In conclusion, I believe that the sports facilities provided by the government are much more beneficial for athletes and ordinary people. They both deserve this opportunity from the government.

Band 8 IELTS Essay

According to some people, the government should invest more money in sporting facilities to train top athletes. On the other hand however, many insist that this money should be spent on building sports facilities for ordinary people. I believe that it is very important to allocate funds for both the sections. In this essay, I will explain my viewpoints and justify them with correct reasoning.

On one hand, there are multiple reasons to spend money on sports facilities for top athletes. There are people who argue that sportspersons bring fame and glory to a nation by winning a medal or trophy in events such as the Olympics and the World Cup. These wins bring the name of the country forward and gives an identity and respect. Not only that, they also bring the economy to the country. So, it is crucial for the government to invest in state-of-the-art training facilities for their athletes. These facilities are provided so that they can perform better at international events. Athletes are very popular nowadays. This popularity makes the younger generation inspire themselves to perform better. They work hard and enjoy sports. Not only that, the grown ups also try to remain healthy by working out. This helps the country as a whole because when people are fit/healthy, they exert less pressure on the healthcare system.

On the other hand, I believe that there are reasons for the government to invest in sports facilities for common people. The generation today leads a sedentary lifestyle causing many health problems in adults as well as children. They mostly play games on the play stations and mobiles. Building a place where people can go to exercise and be involved in physical activities will be inspiring for the children as well as adults. These facilities can also organize recreational group activities like yoga, kick-boxing and Zumba which will further help a large number of people. Not only this, children who will play games here might develop into great athletes in the future. The government can charge a nominal fee to provide access to these places, which will assist in maintenance and nullify expenditure too.

I believe that sports facilities are essential for both athletes and laymen as they help them to train and stay physically active. So, the government should spend its budget wisely to make facilities available for everyone.

Band 6 IELTS Essay

Every coin has two sides. In this topic also, there are two sides where people have different viewpoints. One says that the available monetary resources must be diverted towards enhancing the skills of a few of the top athletes. The other side believes that the financial resources must be directed towards making better facilities available to the general public, at large.

Some people believe that the government must extend benefits to a large population rather than restricting the flow of benefit to a privileged class. Others say that the importance of exploiting the talent of top athletes cannot be ignored. They bring glory, laurel and fame to their country by winning sports competitions. In this essay we will discuss both viewpoints.

I believe that the government should focus the money on the development of sports facilities for the common people rather than just a group of athletes. This is because the government is building these facilities with the taxpayers' money. Everyone pays their taxes and it is in their right to get these facilities from the government. I also believe that most of the money should be allocated to these projects of building indoor stadiums, running tracks for local people etc. This does not mean that the government cannot invest in athletes. However, it is also important to take care of the common man. This will not only satisfy them but also keep everyone healthy. Sports like running, swimming, cycling etc will keep young and old fit and healthy. Hence, I believe that most money should be invested in providing sports facilities for the public.
