Band 6.5 Essay

The graph shows how many requests for information a tourist destination in the United Kingdom received from January to June.

In general, there were three ways used to contact the tourist office. They are in person, by phone, or via email. Over time, more people called and came in person to ask questions, while fewer people wrote or sent emails asking for information. Initial results from telephone queries indicated variation from January to April. Following that, it steadily increased from April to June. But it was still lower than in-person clarifications. Letter inquiries were consistent (600 to 800) until March. Following that, it gradually decreased until it reached nearly 400 inquiries in June.

Band 7 Essay

In the first half of a given year, the line chart shows the frequency of requests made by phone, letter/email, and in person at a United Kingdom tourist office.

When viewed as a whole, it is clear that in-person requests went up from the least to the most frequent over the time period, surpassing telephone requests, which also increased. Email and letter requests for information decreased over time and became by far the least frequent by the end of the period. With only about 420 requests in January, in-person information requests were the least frequent of the three. In contrast, the numbers for written requests and phone calls were 770 and 900, respectively. By the middle of March, in-person inquiries (1,000) had surpassed all other inquiries; this upward trend persisted and reached a peak of 1,900 at the end of the period. Contrarily, telephone requests varied between 800 and 1,000 up until the beginning of April before rapidly increasing to 1,600, which was just behind in-person requests. Requests for letters and emails decreased slightly until March (to 700), then dramatically between May and June, leveling off at 400.

Band 8 Essay

The information about the volume of inquiries gathered by the tourist information office over the course of six months in 2011 is shown as a line graph.

It is obvious that the number of inquiries received via letter varies slightly between January and March. In addition, compared to queries received in person, the total number of phone inquiries in January was nearly double. Furthermore, the number of phone queries received hit 1000 in March and stayed the same through April. While there were 800 more requests made in person. Moving on, it is clear from the graph that in April, emails were used to answer about half of the questions that were asked in person, totaling 600. In May, that number dropped to about 400, and it continued along the same path through June. While in May, the total number of phone and in-person inquiries received was roughly 1400 and 1600, respectively. Besides that, the number of personally collected requests peaked in June at around 1900, and the number of phone-in inquiries rose by 200 to 1400. The sum of inquiries received by letter experienced a downward trend, whereas the number of requests made in person showed a steady but significant rise over the time period.
