The line chart compares the price of bananas over eight years from 1996 to 2004 in four different nations: Japan, France, Germany, and the USA. The overall trend shows that the price of bananas was consistently higher in Japan than in the other three nations. In 1996, the price of bananas was similar in Japan and France, at 2 USD/kg. However, over the next one and a half years, the price in Japan increased to 3 USD/kg, while remaining unchanged in France. By 1999, the price in Japan had dropped to 1.5 USD/kg and 2 USD/kg in France. The cost of bananas fluctuated until the end of the period, with prices at 2.5 USD/kg in Japan and 2 USD/kg in France in 2004.

In comparison, the price of bananas in Germany and the USA was lower in 1996. The price was 1.5 USD/kg in Germany, which was .5 USD/kg higher than the price in the USA. Both countries saw a .25 USD/kg increase in 1998. However, the price remained stable in the USA at 1.25 USD/kg from 1999 to 2004, while in Germany it grew slightly to 2 USD/kg in 2002 before dropping to 1.75 USD/kg in 2004. Overall, it is clear that the price of bananas was generally higher in Japan than in the other three nations, with France having a similar price trend.
