Band 6 IELTS Answer

The graph portrays the average returns of passengers utilising different forms of transportation. These transportation modes are trains, buses, or vehicles, in their daily lives in the United Kingdom during a 60-year period.

Overall, it is clear from the graph that the most popular mode of transportation for commuting was selected. Moreover, it increased through time from the early stage, while bus and train had some substantial changes after 2020.

In the UK, the majority of people approached cars for commuting purposes starting at 5 million in 1970. As opposed to this, the ratio slowly declined by 2 million after 1980 and stayed the same for the following 10 years. Additionally, in the last year, this value soared to a height of 9 million commuters who used a car as part of their regular routine. Consequently, the bus had a downward trend with shares at 4 million travellers. Commuters were using this mode of transportation in 1970, and the ceiling trend became lower over the years and fell by below the 4 million after 30 years.

After then, the value plummeted and reached the ceiling of 3 million bus passengers in 2030. The situation in the rail category inverted, starting with 2 million passengers travelling by train in 1970. This number increased by 1 million after 30 years; and there were no significant changes in the next 10 years. In the meanwhile, a significant incline was seen and reached about 5 Million people in 2030.
