Band 7.5 IELTS Essay

Television is one of the most watched and most used gadgets in an everyday home. People watch movies, TV series and they entertain themselves with films. This creates an impact on society and the minds of people. Hence, some people believe that movies and television should not show or control the amount of crime and violence. I also agree with the statement that less or no violence and crimes shou;ld be shown on television. In this essay, I will justify my opinion with a few examples.

The younger generation watches television much more than the mature or older audience.Violence or crimes can impact them if a child is not adequately educated about violence and the ramifications of crimes depicted in newspapers or on television. They are not aware of the fact that those are actors on the television who are actually not committing that crime. They think it is real and try that in real life. A child’s mind is full of curiosity. Hence, it is not uncommon for them to try and perform the same acts that they see on television. I believe that television must show news and acts which educates the children about not committing a crime or violence. These crime-related television ads, movies, pamphlets, and newspapers fundamentally alter people's mindsets. This causes them to lose their optimism for the future. People get new ideas to take revenge on someone who offended them. They do not try to talk and solve the differences peacefully. This increases the rate of crime in the society. They learn of new ways to hurt someone. There was news recently where a group of thieves stole all of the belongings of a rich family. Once they were caught, they said that they learnt it from TV shows. This would not have happened if they were not mentally affected by the television.

In conclusion, I believe that the dissemination of material that is harmful to humanity should be regulated and prohibited. The government should put a limit to every crime or violence scene that is required to be shown. They should promote stories that aim to raise people's knowledge of crimes rather than motivating them to commit them or spreading the word about them.

Band 7 IELTS Essay

Nowadays, television has become a major part of entertainment. After the Covid-19 surge, people prefer to remain home and watch movies and TV series online. There are fewer people going to cinema halls. The contents shown on television definitely affects the way we behave towards society. Hence, I believe that the government should control the amount of violations on TV to reduce the number of crimes. I will justify my answer with a few situations described below.

I believe that by controlling the amount of violence depicted in films and on television, the government can reduce the likelihood of violent crime in society. Most of the time, the people who want and are leaning towards committing violence get help from such shows. Looking at recent movie trends, we can see only rivals and fighting but do not have any soft stories. These kinds of stories attract more audiences. They are portrayed in such a manner that attacks the extreme emotions of the human soul. In addition, as they are going to promote more action and war-related cinema, eventually public mindset will also be changed negatively which is not good for the community. A recent survey found that 75% of thefts and looting happen due to these recent movies and shows only. The people who commit violence and crimes believe that they will not get caught even after committing the crimes. These TV shows remove fear from them which accelerates the rate of crime. If the television shows show softer movies with good morals, it will impact society in a positive way. Since everyone has a right to express themselves, the filmmakers are also making use of this right. Hence, the only way to reduce this is the promotion of such shows which portrays violence and crime over other emotions.

Band 6.5 IELTS Essay

Some people say that the government should control the amount of violence in films and on television to control crimes in society. I believe that the government has no part in this. I will justify my view in this essay.

The mind of a child is like a white paper. Whatever is written from childhood stays. They children grow up by watching various tv shows, songs, comics and what not. Everything has an impact. So violence and crime will naturally have a negative impact on them. But is it the government’s duty to stop these shows? If so, the government will be hurting the freedom of expression of the people who are making these shows. Every TV show that has violence and crime has a statutory warning before the start. The parents or the guardian of the child should be responsible to bring out and teach the positives to them. The best way is not letting them watch the show. Adults, who are already grown up and understand the rules of society, will not get impacted. Not only television can affect people, it is also the society and the surroundings which affects them the most. For example, there were lots of serial killers like jeffery Damher, Ted Bundy who committed heinous crimes even before these shows surfaced. They barely had television at that time. So we cannot put all the blame on TV shows and the government.

I believe it is the responsibility of the parents to bring up a child who will not commit crimes. They should be taught proper rules and regulations. If they watch a crime show, they should understand that it is shown so that we do not commit such violence. Taking things in a positive way and acting with a positive state of mind is very important.
