Band 9 IELTS Answer
The numbers and percentages of men and women working full-time and part-time in the UK in 1988 and 2012 are depicted in the pie charts.
We can see that most numbers increased overall. However, the proportions for each year varied significantly. At the first glance, we can see that full time working men are most in numbers both in 1998 and 2012. It was the highest in both the years. The proportion of women working full-time changed the most from 1998 to 2012. It increased from 4,482 in 1988 to 7,696 in 2012. The percentages of the total workforce reflect these changes. In 1998, only 19% of the full time working people were women, but by 2012, that number had risen to 26%.
Both years saw an increase in the number of people working part-time and full-time jobs. The number of men accounted for the majority of these positions. In 1998 and 2012, the number of women were 9750 and 13675 whereas men's numbers are 14,089 and 15,925. However, the percentage in increase of number of women were more than men. The number of men working part time also increased by 1%. From 6% in 1998 of the total workforce to 7% in 2012. Whereas the number of part time working women decreased from 22% in 1998 to 20% in 2012.
In conclusion, we can see that number of working men is the most and the number of part time men is least among all.

The chart shows 4 groups of working men and women. They are full time and part time working men and full time and part time working women. The data is taken for 2 years including 1998 and 2012.
The number of full time working men are most contributing to 53% in 1998. This decreased to 47% in 2012. This shows that lesser number of men are working full time in 2012 than in 1998. The numbers in thousands were 13794 in 1998 and 12,539 in 2012. The next highest is working women whose numbers shows just the opposite of men. The number of women increased in 2012. In 1998, it was 19% to 26% in 2012. The numbers are 4482 in 1998 and 7696 in 2012. There is a huge increase of working women which suggests that women started getting involved in work rather than only maintaining their home. The next number is part time women. They surpassed part time working men by huge percentages. The women who were working part time in 1998 were 5979 which contributed to 22% of the working population. This number decreased to 5268 contributing to 20% in the year 2012. Though the number decreased, it was more than part time working men. From 6% in 1998 to 7% in 2012, there is not much increase in part time working men. They contributed to 1550 in 1998 to 2132 in 2012. The numbers miht seem small but since all are in thousands, it contributes to a huge number.
