Band 8 IELTS Answer

The line graph illustrates the annual expenditure on cell phone and residential phone over a period of 10 years. From 2001 till 2010, the data shows costs from 200 dollars to 800 dollars. From an overall perspective, we can see that cell phone expenditure increased drastically over the years while residential phone decreased.

If we deep dive, we can see that in 2001, most of the expenditure belonged to residential phone. This means more people used residential phone and not cell phones. In 2001, the expenditure for residential phones was almost 700 dollars. Within the next 2 years, this decreased to 600 dollars in 2003. The expenditure steadily decreased and went down to 500 dollars in 2006. By the end of 2010, the amount decreased to 400 dollars. The total fall in the decade was 300 dollars.

If we discuss the cell phone expenditure, it drastically increased over the decade. In 2001, the expenditure was merely 200 dollars. In 2002, it jumped to 30 dollars directly. Within the next 2 years, it increased to almost 400 dollars. In 2004, the expenditure was just below 400 dollars. By 2006, it had already crossed 600 dollars. This was the intersection of the cell phone expenditure and residential phone expenditure. The expenditure gradually incxreased for the following years. This amount increased to almost 800 dollars by the end of 2010.

Hence, we can see that the cell phone expenditure increased while the residential phone expenditure decreased. This proves that more people started shifting from residential phone to cell phones.

Band 7 IELTS Answer

The line graph depicts the annual average cost of mobile and landline phone services for American customers. The graph has a teure of ten-year starting from 2001 to 2010. At the first glance, we cxan see that cell phone usage increased and residential phone usage decreased.

Over the course of a decade, mobile services' popularity soared while spending on residential phone services fell dramatically. Additionally, in 2006, both services met at the same location.

Only $200 was spent on mobile phone services in 2001, while approximately $700 was spent annually on residential phone services. The cost of landline phone services gradually fell below $600 over the next five years, while the cost of cell phone services increased to just over $500.

In 2006, cell phones surpassed landlines, and customers now spend approximately $550 per year for both services. The cost of a cell phone then nearly quadrupled from its initial level in 2001, reaching approximately $750 in 2010. In the meantime, spending on residential phone services fell dramatically in 2007 and continued to fall steadily for the remainder of the year.

Band 7.5 IELTS Answer

Over a 10-year period, the line graph depicts the annual expenditure for residential and mobile phones. The data show costs ranging from $200 to $800 from 2001 to 2010. Overall, we can see that the cost of a cell phone has gone up dramatically while the cost of a home phone has gone down.

We can see that residential phone accounted for the majority of expenditures in 2001. As a result, more people switched from cell phones to residential phones. Nearly 700 dollars were spent on residential phones in 2001. This decreased to 600 dollars in 2003 after two years. In 2006, the amount spent decreased steadily to 500 dollars. The amount had decreased to $400 by the end of 2010. Over the course of the decade, a total of $300 was lost.

When we talk about the cost of a cell phone, it has significantly increased over the past decade. The expense was only 200 dollars in 2001. It increased to 30 dollars directly in 2002. It went up to almost $400 in the following two years. The total cost in 2004 was just under $400. It had already surpassed 600 dollars by the year 2006. There was a connection here between the costs of residential and mobile phones. The subsequent years saw a gradual increase in expenditures. By the end of 2010, this amount had risen to almost 800 dollars.

As a result, we can observe that residential phone spending decreased while cell phone spending increased. This shows that more people started using cell phones instead of their home phone.
