    Preparation Tips from NEET Toppers

Collegedunia has conducted extensive research on preparation strategies given by NEET experts and collated together the most important pointers. Here are the following pointers given by experts:

    • Focus on the concepts: “I believe that for Physics, medical aspirants should focus on understanding the concepts behind the problems instead of just practicing formulas and answering questions. Instead of utilizing shortcuts, if the candidate takes the time to understand the 4-5 concepts present in every chapter, they can easily prepare for Physics ” said DC Pandey. You should be aware of the simple and basic concepts before understanding the complex ones. While solving questions, apply tricks that are mostly provided in coaching centers.
    • Do not take extreme pressure: It is always advised to stay positive when the exam day is near and also when you are appearing for the exam. Do not panic and try to avoid silly mistakes during the exam. If at a first go you are not able to understand the question then you can move to next questions and revisit that question after some time.
    • Clear Doubts: Resolve your doubts quickly. Do not delay topics in which you have doubts and do not pick such topics in the last few days of the exam. In case you have doubt or queries in any question ask and clear it from your respective faculty within time.
    • Circle and Underlying Method:  Candidates are often faced with a lot of irrelevant information when tasked with answering questions. Many of the details presented in the question are irrelevant to the solution. In cases like this, candidates should circle and underline all of the parts of the question that are relevant to problem-solving in order to avoid silly mistakes. Aspirants should pay extra attention to qualifiers such as all, some etc.
    • Option Elimination: Even if the question is new for the aspirant, it is possible through the process of elimination to realize that out of 4 probable answers around 50% are not accurate. Afterward, all candidates have to analyze and understand which option is correct out of the 2 possible answers.
    • Effective and Speedy OMR Filling: One should devise a technique for filling the OMR Sheet that is effective and speedy. This is due to the fact that any mistake in the OMR sheet would directly reflect in your marks. All the effort that one has put in their NEET preparation and attempt will be summarized in the OMR sheet.
    • Use Charts / Tables / Maps: Instead of just cramming information and formulas into your head through constant revision, it is imperative that you create diagrams such as charts, tables or maps to understand and inculcate data conceptually.
    • Remember prefixes: Prefixes such as uni, bi, mono and dio are good indicators of quantitative and qualitative characteristics of a question.
    • Create mnemonic phrases for series and classifications: For series and classifications such as kingdom classifications, or element groups in series, candidates should prepare mnemonic phrases by using initials of the main elements in the groups.
    • Prepare a time table: Don’t follow the schedule of others. Make sure you achieve your daily or weekly targets. Understand the concepts rather than memorizing things (except for some topics in Chemistry and Biology).
    • Management of Time while solving Question Paper: To score high in NEET, you require proper time management and pattern of solving questions. You can maintain speed while attempting the questions with accuracy by practicing or solving previous year papers during the time of preparation.
    • Self Prepared Notes are best: Do not copy the exact content from the book. First, read and understand the concepts. After that write it in your own language. Consistent revision from notes is necessary.

    General NEET Preparation Tips

With Lakhs of aspirants appearing for NEET every year, the competition is only getting tougher. Here are a few tips for students appearing for the exam this year:

    Know the Syllabus

The first step to prepare for any exam is to find out the prescribed syllabus. Check out the official website for the exam syllabus for NEET and prepare accordingly.

    Smart Study

For effective preparation, you need to study smartly.

    • Identify your strong and weak points.
    • Prioritize in such a manner that your strong areas become stronger and leave ample time to work on your weak areas.
    • Don’t leave any topic untouched.

    Tick Tock: Time Management

The exam syllabus is vast, but time is limited.

    • Make a timetable and stick to it fervently.
    • Give more time to your weaker areas and the ones that have higher weightage in the exam.
    • Give as many mock tests as you can; it will help you a lot.

    Practice

“Knowledge is of no use until you put it to practice”. You might be thorough with the syllabus, but it is all for nothing if you don’t practice.

    • Grab hold of as many sample papers as you can and solve them regularly.
    • Time yourself. It helps in dealing with exam pressure.

    Health is Wealth

Long hours of study can take a toll on your health. Remember, if you neglect your body, your exam will have no success story.

    • Increase your intake of greens, juices and fiber.
    • Avoid oily and spicy food.
    • can do some simple eye and neck exercises to avoid strain.

    Kit Kat Breaks

Long and strenuous study hours lead to fatigue which hampers our cognitive abilities.

    • Taking short breaks is essential for the brain to retain information.
    • Get up and walk around after every 1 hour to improve blood circulation.

    Set realistic goals

Creating a study schedule that requires you to study for 4 hours at a stretch is just cruel and unhealthy. Analyze your potential and attention span to set realistic goals for yourself. Reward yourself with your favourite dish or an episode of your favourite TV show.

Too many cooks spoil the broth

The exam may require you to refer to help books. However, too many of them might confuse you.

    • Every author has a different way of explaining concepts and there’s a good chance that contradictions will emerge.
    • Apart from that, choose 1 or 2 books that will strengthen your weak points.
    • NCERT should be your primary source of information.

    Stay motivated

It is easy to lose focus and get demotivated while preparing for NEET and that can hamper your preparation severely.

    • Read interviews of previous years’ toppers and try to imbibe their study routine.
    • Browse the internet for inspirational quotes.
    • Talking to your friends goes a long way in staying motivated. Have faith in yourself.

    History repeats itself

There’s a good chance that you’ll see some topics and questions being repeatedly asked in the exam.

    • Go through the previous years’ question papers to get an idea of the type of questions asked in NEET.
    • Identify the patterns and study accordingly.

Tips to be Followed Before Exam

    • Stick to what you know & avoid new topics: Try to avoid touching new topics in the last one month and only stick to revisions of those topics that you have studied during your preparation time. New topics could confuse you which could be stressful in the last few for the exam.
    • Revise the Formulas on Daily Basis: Stick to your notes and highlights for important formulas. Go through all the important formulas once a day to hold your grip on the same. Daily revision of notes will help you remember the formulas for a longer period of time and you can easily solve the direct questions in the exam.
    • Study as per your Time Table: It is advisable for NEET aspirants to give about 10 hours to study excluding the mock test duration. Do not think that the exam is very close so I should study for more hours. This could be bad for your health. Follow the same routine which you were following from the last month.
    • Revise from Notes: Your performance on the exam doesn’t depend on how much you can cover, it rather depends on how much you can retain. Therefore, you must revise your notes on a daily basis. Revision at one go is not the accurate way, one must divide the syllabus and revise it in detailed parts. Notes are time-saving and help in organizing thoughts. Notes should be handy, easy to comprehend with highlighted sections and pointers.
    • Go through your Shortcut Methods: You must solve questions, again and again, to which can be solved with some shortcut methods. So that during the time of real exam you can easily identify such questions and apply that same method to save your time.
    • Paper Attempting Strategy: Candidates should have a good strategy on how to attempt the paper considering the points like time management, selection of questions, and accuracy. All these factors are interdependent on each other and essential for a successful attempt. Candidates must have a clear idea of what questions they can or can not attempt. Aiming to solve the entire paper will only lead to disruption of clarity. The sequence of attempting the question paper must be chosen as per one’s own convenience.
    • Maintain a Healthy Lifestyle: Kindly don’t undermine your health amidst all the stress. You must take short breaks during your study hours. Maintain a healthy lifestyle and get at least 6-7 hours of sleep every day. Also, considering the current situation, please take all the precautions against coronavirus.
    • Mock Tests: When only a few days are left then candidates should focus more on revising the syllabus, formulas etc. However, candidates should try to take at least 1 NEET Mock Tests to analyze their final preparation. Mock tests will also teach you about time management which is one of the most crucial factors for success in such competitive exams.

Ans. One of my friends studies there and he once told me that his dream comes true after getting admission to this institute. He mentioned that there are many things, which are actually looking forward by every student.  This institute provides the best clinical posting, Academics, and extracurricular opportunities such as sports and cultural events.  The college administration itself organizes some CDE programs and seminars for the betterment of the students.  In your third year, you will get the opportunity to work with AIIMS Rishikesh for your studies in General Medicine and General Surgery.  My friend has just completed his work experiences in AIIMS, which is really a life-changing knowledge for him considering his future career perspectives.  However, the Dental Schools' lack of exposure is a Myth, but this institute works hard to provide its students world-class services and medical equipment. This institute is on the River Ganges banks, which is very relaxing, and the college environment is very soothing and breathtakingly beautiful. My friend has just finished his 3 years in this college, and he mentioned that this institute provides a homely feeling. Teachers are amiable, kind, and helpful. Thus, if you want to take admission to this institute, go for it. Read more
