Course Curriculum Overview:

I had an interest in the electrical subject since class 10. So I wanted to do something in the same field. That's why I choose the Electrical Engineering course. In a class, there are 50-60 students. For each subject 2-3 faculties are available. I think the ratio is quite good. Faculties are well qualified. Many have done PhD, some are about to complete PhD and few have completed their M.tech in their respective field. 3 exams are taken in each semester. 2 mid-seems and 1 end-sem exam.

Ques
Is there anything good about IEM, Kolkata for a BTech? Will we get any extra advantage studying in IEM?

● Top Answer By Subhashree Nath on 22 Mar 21

Ans
A friend of mine did her BTech from IEM Kolkata and now she is working as a Cyber Security Analyst in a big firm. Here are a few things that she experienced in her duration at the college.  Unnecessary Rules: Students often complain about the unnecessary discipline enforced by the college to attend all of the lectures and seminars irrespective of their choice and usefulness. Faculty: In terms of faculty, there is a mix of average and good professors. But most of the good professors are moving to different colleges.  Placements: In the terms of placement, the data may show it as amazing but in reality, most of the students of IEM end up in mass recruiting jobs offered by any IT company. Only a few of the students end up in good companies.  If you are choosing IEM try to make the most of it. Other than college learning, try and take up some extra courses such as coding or hacking and security, it will help a lot. There are a handful of helpful faculties at IEM. Interacting and working with those professors will help a lot in going good places. Learn to utilize their time and learn new things. Learn something new and read as much as possible. If you are not happy with campus placements then you should look for off-campus placements as well.

Ques
What is the difference between IEM and UEM in Kolkata?

● Top Answer By Malhar Chaterjee on 25 Apr 22

Ans
IEM and UEM are under the same group of management, which is IEM group. Here are some of the differences between the two institutes.  IEM follows the syllabus of MAKAUT. UEM follows its own syllabus as it is autonomous. However, around 80% of the syllabus is similar to MAKAUT.  IEM takes admission through WEJEE and the required cutoff is high. Getting admission at UEM is comparably easier. It takes admission through IEMJEE.  Comparably, IEM has a better placement record. IEM Kolkata average package is INR 4 LPA.  As a student of UEM, if you want to do an MS or pursue higher studies abroad, you will get a recommendation letter from IEM.

Ques
How is IEM Kolkata? Which is better, CS at IEM Kolkata or civil/IT at Jadavpur?

● Top Answer By Harsh Ragav on 07 Sept 22

Ans
IEM Kolkata is a reputed technical college in the region. But given a choice, you should take Civil/IT at Jadavpur University. JU ranks among the top engineering colleges in the country. It is well ahead of IEM, in terms of placement and opportunities.  Many core companies visit JU to recruit Civil Engineering students. The IT placement is excellent. Companies such as Microsoft, Google, etc. take part in Jadavpur University placements. During the 2022 placement drive, Facebook offered the highest CTC of INR 1.8 Crore per annum. The second highest CTC was INR 1.4 CPA, by Google.

Ques
Should I take CSE in KIIT or IEM, Kolkata?

● Top Answer By Neha Menon on 22 Mar 21

Ans
IEM and KIIT both are good options for CSE. Given below are a few of the aspects of the institute which can help you in making the right choice.  Comparison:  IEM has established quite a reputation for CSE and rightly so.  The faculties for CSE are quite great. The CSE department also has an extensive alumni base.  However, there is not much to the campus life at IEM. If you want to bunk the class, the only place you can go in the library. On the other hand, KIIT offers a better campus life.  The placement record for IEM and KIIT is quite similar. Mass recruiters like TCS, Wipro, Infosys visit both campuses. If after the completion of 4 years, you get placed in TCS, investing a lump sum at KIIT is not worth it.  If you go for IEM, you can stay in Kolkata and prepare for various examinations like GATE, CAT, etc. Also, IEM is more affordable. So, choose accordingly.

Ques
What is the dress code at IEM Kolkata?

● Top Answer By Khushi Chitra on 12 Apr 21

Ans
My brother is from IEM Kolkata, so, I can help you with this. The dress code is as follows. Grey trousers and a white shirt with the IEM monogram on the pocket. Dark navy blue tie (Optional for general days) Black shoes (any sneakers with a decent color are also acceptable but no chappals). It has an official blazer for winter, but you are free to wear any sweater or jacket you want. Kito shoes are also permitted on rainy days. They now have IEM bags and belts as well. The dress code at IEM is very strict. You must maintain that from first to final year.
