Course Curriculum Overview:

I choose this course as I like the trade of Electrical Engineering. the faculty-student ratio is good and the students get their own mentors which is a very good thing. the faculty members are highly qualified in their respective fields and their teaching skills are very good. the exams are quite difficult to pass but if you study well then it will be okay the semester occurs every 6months and in between sets there are 2mid terms each sem.

Remarks:

You should pass Class 12 with science or lateral entry also available for that you need to pass polytechnic. no, the admission is basically via wbjee and Jee mains. I dont think there is any room for improvement in the admission procedure.

Placement Experience:

The placements are quite good compared to other private colleges in Kolkata or in West Bengal. I think after the 6th or 7th semester you are eligible for campus placements. The highest package was 20LPA and the average package was 4.5LPA.

Remarks:

We can take admission through WBJEE and iemjee examinations. The cutoff for btech CSE is approx up to 4700 ranks in WBJEE. You can get all details regarding exams, and admission on the WBJEE official site. No, the admission process is ok.

Remarks:

Admission to IEM KOLKATA is based on merit. Entrance is through WBJEE, JEE MAINS and IEM JEE examinations. The admission process is as per MAKAUT and AICTE based on the counselling process.

You will be getting placement offers from the 7th sem. Tcs, Wipro, Cognizant, Pwc, Jio, Accenture, and IBM are very common in campus placements. The average package is around 5LPA. I'm working right now. I did not get any placement on campus. Had to opt for aff campusing placements.

Remarks:

I'm a jeelet student and got entry in 2nd year. You can join this college through JEE, JEELET, etc. Core field camping is not recommended. You can still study in a core field and be a cwc member of any society and have some benefits. Professors are helpful. Mainly campusing in the IT sector is provided here and in bulk. The average package also is pretty good.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I chose Engineering because: It has been my passion to pursue this course. Codes are something that I actually understand. Engineering gives a brief knowledge of how to apply whatever we've learned to date. The Quality of Education is wonderful. The teachers are available 24/7 to help you whenever you need them. Teachers are willing to personally teach the students during college hours for any session or class that they miss.

Remarks:

My admission personally took place via the WBJEE examinations. The exam is a tough one but with the proper preparation, it can be easily cracked. I was not from any Reservations. I belong to the General category. In IEM you get the option to upgrade your stream if you score a high enough SGPA. Like I did. I upgraded from CSE(IoT) to CSE(AIML) owing to my 9+ SGPA.

During the last phase of the sixth semester company started visiting our campus for internship opportunities. From the seventh semester onwards company starts visiting for full-time roles as well. Companies like Oracle, eQTechnologic, Accenture, Deloitte, PwC, and IBM have visited our campus so far. Accenture has offered 150 students for full-time roles. The Highest package offered is from Oracle around 19LPA for my Batch. The average that I know would be around 5LPA.

Remarks:

Eligibility: Have completed class 12th. Basically to be admitted to the college one has to take an entrance examination that is conducted at the state level known as WBJEE. If you get a good rank then only you can be admitted to this college. During my time the exam was conducted in February.

Placement Experience:

Campus placements are offered around the 6th semester onwards. TCS, Wipro, IBM, Oracle and a lot of reputed companies visit the campus for recruitment and 100% placement is not a myth as our curriculum is designed to include placement and competitive-oriented studies from the 1st semester itself. The average package tends to touch 5lacs per annum and the highest goes up to 82 lacs per annum for a software engineer at Google London. Personally, I am planning to get an MS after my B Tech degree.

Remarks:

I took admission via my WBJEE rank of 9.3k and got admitted to the Electronics and Telecommunication course in the mop-up round. In 2nd year I changed my stream to CSE-AI on the basis of my first year academic performance. The admission process takes place through the WBJEE counselling portal and is not hectic at all. Now there is also an exam conducted by IEM called IEMJEE for admission.

A friend of mine did her BTech from IEM Kolkata and now she is working as a Cyber Security Analyst in a big firm. Here are a few things that she experienced in her duration at the college.

  • Unnecessary Rules: Students often complain about the unnecessary discipline enforced by the college to attend all of the lectures and seminars irrespective of their choice and usefulness.
  • Faculty: In terms of faculty, there is a mix of average and good professors. But most of the good professors are moving to different colleges.
  • Placements: In the terms of placement, the data may show it as amazing but in reality, most of the students of IEM end up in mass recruiting jobs offered by any IT company. Only a few of the students end up in good companies.

If you are choosing IEM try to make the most of it. Other than college learning, try and take up some extra courses such as coding or hacking and security, it will help a lot. There are a handful of helpful faculties at IEM. Interacting and working with those professors will help a lot in going good places.

Learn to utilize their time and learn new things. Learn something new and read as much as possible. If you are not happy with campus placements then you should look for off-campus placements as well.

IEM and UEM are under the same group of management, which is IEM group. Here are some of the differences between the two institutes.

  • IEM follows the syllabus of MAKAUT. UEM follows its own syllabus as it is autonomous. However, around 80% of the syllabus is similar to MAKAUT.
  • IEM takes admission through WEJEE and the required cutoff is high. Getting admission at UEM is comparably easier. It takes admission through IEMJEE.
  • Comparably, IEM has a better placement record. IEM Kolkata average package is INR 4 LPA.

As a student of UEM, if you want to do an MS or pursue higher studies abroad, you will get a recommendation letter from IEM.

IEM Kolkata is a reputed technical college in the region. But given a choice, you should take Civil/IT at Jadavpur University. JU ranks among the top engineering colleges in the country. It is well ahead of IEM, in terms of placement and opportunities.

Many core companies visit JU to recruit Civil Engineering students. The IT placement is excellent. Companies such as Microsoft, Google, etc. take part in Jadavpur University placements. During the 2022 placement drive, Facebook offered the highest CTC of INR 1.8 Crore per annum. The second highest CTC was INR 1.4 CPA, by Google.

IEM and KIIT both are good options for CSE. Given below are a few of the aspects of the institute which can help you in making the right choice.

Comparison:

  • IEM has established quite a reputation for CSE and rightly so.
  • The faculties for CSE are quite great.
  • The CSE department also has an extensive alumni base.
  • However, there is not much to the campus life at IEM. If you want to bunk the class, the only place you can go in the library. On the other hand, KIIT offers a better campus life.
  • The placement record for IEM and KIIT is quite similar. Mass recruiters like TCS, Wipro, Infosys visit both campuses. If after the completion of 4 years, you get placed in TCS, investing a lump sum at KIIT is not worth it.

If you go for IEM, you can stay in Kolkata and prepare for various examinations like GATE, CAT, etc. Also, IEM is more affordable. So, choose accordingly.

IEM Kolkata IT will be comparably better. Although IEM has pretty strict rules in place, it offers better opportunities in terms of academics and placements. According to the stats of recent IEM placements, each year around 90% of students get placed each year from IT. The highest CTC for the branch is INR 40 LPA.

Heritage Institute of Technology is a good option, if you want to pursue research or MS, further.
