I have a few friends at both institutes. Based on the reviews I had from them, IEM Kolkata is better than Techno India Saltlake, in all aspects.

Course:

IEM Kolkata:

IEM Kolkata offers a more conventional way of teaching. 

• The college has discipline, punctuality, and strictness when it comes to studies. There’s a strict dress-code in place.
• The college is also critical about the timing, they won’t allow the student even if they are late by five minutes. There is a strict attendance system, the parents get notifications if the student is absent for more than 2 days consecutively. 
• The students need to work hard on themselves to clear all the internal examinations and avoid backlogs.

Techno India Saltlake: 

• Techno India Saltlake has a more relaxed approach towards academics. They focus more on hands-on study through seminars and workshops. 
• They don’t have any kind of dress-code. 
• Teachers are quite helpful, they help the students in the internals. 
• The college has great extracurricular activities such as Tech fests and cultural fests. The environment at the college is quite enjoyable.

Placements: (Winning Institute - IEM Kolkata)

The placement average of IEM Kolkata is much better than that of Techno India Saltlake. On the other hand, TIS lets you sit for a few big MNCs which IEM does not, i.e. for specific branches. 

If you are torn between IEM Kolkata and Techno India Saltlake, choosing the former will be a better choice.
