IIT Dharwad is a relatively newly established institute and the first batch of engineering graduates in 2020 only, it is yet to be ranked by NIRF. While NITK Surathkal is one of the oldest NITs of the country and is ranked 33rd by NIRF for Engineering.

• Since it is a new college, it is mentored by old colleges like IIT-K, IIT-M and students are even taught by SWAYAM courses offered by professors from the old IITs.

NITK

• The faculty-student ratio at NITK is 1:35.

Campus 

• NITK- Spread over 100 acre area, it is a very beautiful campus and has it’s very own private beach as well. It has state-of-art-infrastructure with modern smart classrooms and well equipped labs and sports facilities.
• IIT Dharwad- It currently functions in a transit campus hence all facilities cannot be availed as of now but the proposed campus is supposed to be spread across 400 acres and full of ample opportunities for students. Electrical labs are an essential part of the course but since this is the transit campus, labs are not completely equipped.

NIT Surathkal or NITK is one of the premier engineering institutes of the country and has a strong alumni network and industry connect. Training sessions are even organised by industry giants like IBM, CoCubes. IIT Dharwad being a new institute needs time and resources to make its mark. Apart from this, computer science is the most sought after skill-set at present and attracts lucrative offers. Hence, students should make an informed choice according to their discretion.

In the recent NIRF ranking 2020, IIT Dhanbad, IIT Jodhpur, IIST Thiruvananthapuram stands at 15th, 50th, 33rd respectively. IIT Dharwad was recently established, and it's making all efforts to be ranked among the best. Here are a few factors that you should consider while comparing these institutes.

Admission:

• For admission into IITs, students need to qualify for the JEE mains exam and get a good score in the JEE Advanced exam. The eligibility criteria are 10+2 with 75% aggregate in the science stream.

• For admission into IIST Thiruvananthapuram, eligibility is 10+2 with a minimum of 75% aggregate in the science stream and a valid JEE Mains score.

• The total seat intake for ECE at IIST is 60. 50 seats at IIT Dharwad for EE and 120 seats for EIE at IIT Dhanbad. 80 seats at IIT Jodhpur for ME.

Faculty:

• A total of 99 faculty members are present at IIT Jodhpur and all are Ph.D. holders.

• IIT Dhanbad has a highly qualified and strong faculty network of 332 members and 315 of them are Ph.D. holders.

• In the recent placement drive, IIT Dhanbad placed 61.90% of its students from the EIE branch. The highest package offered was INR 13 LPA. Top recruiters were Google, Goldman Sachs, Walmart.

• In the year 2020, a total of 83% of students were placed from the Mechanical branch at IIT Jodhpur. Top recruiters were TCS, Maruti Suzuki, Honda, Infosys.

• The top recruiter at IIST is ISRO that hired 108 Btech students. 27% of students were placed from the ECE branch.

• IIT Dharwad saw its first batch of placement, and Microsoft offered the highest internship package of INR 80000 per month.

Scholarships are offered by all the colleges to help the students during their course of study. As for which institute will be better you should decide that according to your course of choice.

DTU and IIT Dharwad both give head-on competition to each other in all fields. DTU is ranked 36th by NIRF and 2nd by Times Engineering Survey. IIT Dharwad was recently established, and it's making all efforts to be ranked among the best. Placement opportunities are impressive in both colleges. More than 90% of the students are placed every year.

Admission:

• Students seeking admission to both the colleges need to appear for the JEE mains exam. For IIT Dharwad students also need to get a good score in the JEE advanced.

• Total ECE seat intake at DTU is 270 and 50 at IIT Dharwad.

Course Fees:

The course fee structure of both colleges is pretty much higher. Day scholars have to pay a separate fee structure as they do not avail of the hostel and mess facilities.

Faculty:

• Both the colleges have excellent faculty in the EE and EEE department. The maximum of the faculties is Ph.D. holders in their specified fields.

• Well developed laboratories are set up for the students interested in Research and Development.

Facilities:

• IIT Dharwad is spread across 470 acres and includes well-developed laboratories for the EE students. Digital Library, well-ventilated hostels, 24*7 medical care.

• DTU Delhi is spread in a massive area that includes facilities like a three-storeyed library building, EDUSAT studio, sports center, and 24*7 medical facilities.

Placement:

• DTU has an exemplary placement record in all its branches. For the EEE branch, the highest package offered was INR 20.33 lakhs. A total of 61 students were placed. 76 offers were given to students from different companies.

• IIT Dharwad saw its first placement in the year 2020. Internships with higher packages were offered to the students of the 3 branches. Top recruiters were Microsoft, Google, Doubtnut, Vizag steel plant, and a lot more.

The scholarship is being offered under various categories that include female candidates, academic excellence, and economically backward students. Both the colleges are good which is evident from its national rankings. To choose EE or EEE solely depends on the rank secured by the students in the entrance examination.

Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology has been ranked 29th amongst top engineering colleges in India by NIRF. While IIT Dharwad hasn't been ranked yet by NIRF.

The main campus is under construction as of now, proposed to be spread across 530 acres, the students have to stay in a transit campus. Hence, all facilities cannot be availed yet.

IIT Dharwad:

• Since the institute is new, the first batch graduated in 2020 with the highest PPO offered by Microsoft at INR 80,000 per month.
• The highest package offered to CSE students was INR 15 lakhs per annum
• Average package offered was INR 8 lakhs per annum.
• Of the total students who applied for placements, 90% were placed in 2020.
• Top recruiters include Adobe, Amazon and Microsoft amongst 30 others

Thapar University:

• About 264 different recruiters visit the institute annually and the college has a stellar record of 90%+ placements for the last six years.
• The highest package offered at the institute is INR 43 lakhs per annum with 971 students placed so far.
• About 90% of the B. Tech students and 60% of the MCA students are placed annually.
• Companies like Infosys, OYO, HSBC, Azcom, Wipro, etc. hire students every year.

Finally, when it boils down to making a choice between the two institutes, students should consider their area of interest, accessibility, facilities offered. While IITs do have a brand name, Dharwad is relatively newly established and on the other hand, Thapar University does provide promising placements and is one of the oldest private institutions.

It is difficult to decide which is better between CSE at IIT Dharwad and Electrical at IIT Bhubaneswar as the branches are different. You should choose the branch of your choice and the institute which is offering the batter program for that branch.

IIT Dharwad was established in 2016 and among the new IITs. IIT Bombay is the mentor institute for IIT Dharwad, so the course curriculum for CSE is similar to that of IIT Bombay. The institute has well-equipped laboratories and highly experienced professors. The total course fee for CSE is around 9 lakhs. In 2019 the required cutoff for CSE was 2796-7437.

Placements:

• The institute has a Career Development Cell (CDC), which helps facilitate placements and internships in industry, academic, and government sectors.
• Around 90% of students from the CSE department got placement offers with an average CTC 8 LPA, and the highest CTC offered was around 15 LPA.
• The top recruiting companies include AirAsia, Nasdaq, and Amazon. Also, companies like Microsoft, Arista, Adobe and FourKites offered internships.

IIT Bhubaneswar was established in 2008 and Electrical Engineering is one of the oldest branches in the institute. The school of Electrical Engineering at IIT Bhubaneswar has good infrastructure and facilities. In 2019, the closing cutoff for EE was 2276-8787.

Placements:

• In 2019, Electrical Engineering in IIT Bhubaneswar has recorded an 86% placement rate.
• A total of 89 companies visited IIT Bhubaneswar during the placement program.
• The top recruiting companies were Adobe, Amazon, Accenture, Capgemini, Goldman Sachs, HCL, Wipro, Tata Steel, Infosys, Oracle, L&T Construction, etc.
• The highest salary package was 35 lakhs per annum and the average salary package being 11 lakhs per annum.

IIT Bhubaneswar also has collaborations with universities abroad like the University of Edinburgh - the UK, University of Western Ontario - Canada, and the University of Texas - North Denton, Texas USA that offers good exposure for students who want to pursue higher studies abroad.
