Course Description

IIT Palakkad MTech admissions are based on GATE Score followed by COAP counselling. For IIT Palakkad MTech Admission 2024, GATE Registrations have started from August 30. The closing date of regular registration is October 12, 2023. Along with that, the deadline for extended online registration or application process (with late fee) is 20^th October, 2023.

IIT Palakkad offers MTech program in 6 different specialisations like Power Electroncis & Power Systems, Computing Mathematics, Data Science, System-On-Chip deisgn, Manufacturing and Materials Engineering and Geotechnical Engineering. IIT Palakkad MTech admission is done on the basis of marks secured in the GATE exam and COAP counselling process. For the year 2023, IIT Palakkad has participated in 10 rounds of COAP counselling.

IIT Palakkad MTech program contains course-work, laboratory, project work and dissertation. It is expected by the institute for the students to maintain 100% attendance and the minimum percentage of attendance is 85. IIT Palakkad also follows a grading system based on the students’ performance. According to the grading system, the highest and the lowest grade is 10 and 0 respectively.

IIT Palakkad MTech Course Highlights

IIT Palakkad offers the M.Tech programme of 4 semesters duration.
Students are eligible to take extra courses apart from the courses prescribed in the curriculum, subject to a maximum of 6 credits, provided a student has no backlog and has a CGPA of 7.0 & above.
Students are to acquire a minimum of 72 credits in any stream of M.Tech at the end of the program.

GATE 2023 COAP Registration Process

After passing the GATE entrance exam, candidates are to register for the COAP counseling process to secure their admission into IITs, NITs, and other participating institutes. COAP provides a common platform for the registered candidates to make the most preferred choice for admission into an M.Tech. Program in the participating Institutes.

Eligibility Criteria to Register for COAP 2023

The candidate must be a citizen of India.
Candidates should have a valid GATE score from 2023/2022/2021.

GATE 2023 COAP Step by Step Registration Process:

The candidates can successfully apply for GATE COAP 2023 by simply following the below:

Step 1: Visit the official website of COAP @ coap.iitd.ac. and click on the registration link.

Step 2: Fill in details such as their GATE Registration Number, GATE Paper Code, GATE score, date of birth.

Step 3: Click on the “Validate” icon and enter the registered email id and mobile number.

Step 4:Click on the “Submit to Register” button.

Step 5: After the registration is successfully done for COAP 2023, the candidates will obtain a Login ID and Password for COAP Login. The same will be sent via Email and SMS.

Step 6: The COAP registration will only be considered as complete only if the candidates log in using the Login ID and Password and verify the registration details.

Step 7: After the completion of the above-given steps, the candidate can access the information on offers made from the participating Institutes.

Step 8: In the end, the admission offer will be uploaded at COAP website and will be tagged with COAP registration number (same as GATE registration number without subject code).

IIT Palakkad MTech Course Details

About two-thirds of the total credits involve coursework and laboratory, and the
remainder consists of project work / dissertation.
The curriculum should be so drawn up that the minimum number of credits for successful completion of the M.Tech programme of any stream is 60 ± 3 credits.
Students are expected to have 100% attendance in all the courses. The minimum attendance requirement for completion of any course is 85%.
The programme of instruction for each stream of specialisation will consist of:

IIT Palakkad MTech Scholarships

Indian Nationals with GATE qualification pursuing M.Tech will get Financial assistance of Rs.12,400/- p.m. in the form of HTTA (Half-Time Teaching Assistantship) for a maximum period of 24 months.

Students under HTTA need to assist the academic and curricular activities of the institute for a duration of 8 hours of work per week. The activities could include different activities like laboratory demonstration, evaluation of assignments, tutorials, test papers, research projects, seminars, etc.

You should choose the branch in which you are really interested. Here are a few factors which may help you in choosing. IIT Palakkad is a fairly new IIT, whereas IIT Dhanbad is an old reputed institute with an extensive alumni network. If you are genuinely interested in Mathematics, then you should definitely go for MnC. I have some friends in CSE at IIT Dhanbad and their curriculum does not cover Mathematical topics much. IIT Palakkad being a new institute will need time to offer infrastructural facilities at the same level as IIT Dhanbad. Another thing that you need to note is that MMC is an integrated course with a 5-years duration. While CSE at IIT Palakkad will be a Bachelors’s degree or a dual degree. where you need to study for a minimum of 4 or 5 years. Hence, it all depends on you which branch you are more interested in and which will be easier for you.

There are three hostels in IIT-Palakkad, two are old and one is new. Old hostels: Rooms: Rooms are spacious enough for 2 with windows and almirah. A study table is also provided. Others: Basic requirements like heater, geyser, etc are provided by the hostel. Availability of water is 24/7. Sports: A Volleyball court is available in front of the hostel. In addition to this two TT tables and an equipped gym are present and usable. You are also free to use the Football/Cricket ground and Basketball court. WiFi: There is no LAN Port in the rooms, but Hi-speed WiFi connections are available. Nigh-life: The hostel food is good and satisfying. The night canteen is open till 12:30 pm and a food court is available till 10:00 pm in the Ahalia Hospital Complex. Thus the issue of night cravings is sorted. New Hostel: The hostel-3 OR H-3 is the latest inclusion in the list of hostels of IIT-Palakkad. This answer would be somewhat the same for both boys and girls. It is beautiful and pretty much seems to me like a dream hostel. Double rooms (spacious and furnished with study table, almirah), attached baths, common room (in the hostel itself) equipped with a huge Smart LED TV. You can watch TV shows, Cricket matches. There are also indoor games like Table Tennis, Carrom, Chess. Common Room is common for both girls and boys and you get to interact with everyone and work together at times. There is a well-equipped gym too in case you care about your physical health and regular Martial Arts Classes by Dr. Swaroop Sahoo and Yoga classes too. There’s a volleyball court as well. Most importantly, it has the Innovation Lab housing 3D printers, CNC Routers, almost anything you need to make a product prototype, from tools to materials, you name it we have it (all open for students), and other labs too. Water coolers (for hot, normal, and cold water), warm water for bathing purposes, and Washing Machines on each floor, all for 24 x 7 (Yeah, people even wash clothes 3 in the morning). There is a SAC Office and hostel manager’s office too. H-3 is home to both boys and girls. There are different sections. The maintenance of the rooms is on you. You need to clean it, including the bathrooms.
