Course Description

IIT Palakkad BTech Admissions 2023 are over. JoSAA has released the round 1 – 6 cutoff for IIT Palakkad. The IIT Palakkad BTech CSE Cutoff 2023 remained 3705-5162 for General Category. IIT Palakkad offers BTech as its flagship program where admissions are granted as per JEE Advanced score followed by JoSAA counselling. JoSAA releases 6 round of seat allotment for admission to IIT Palakkad. Check JEE Advanced 2024 Preparation Strategy

JEE Main registrations are expected to start from November 2023 and the exam will be conducted in 2 sessions. Candidates having a valid JEE Main score need to register for JEE Advanced, where registration will commence in April 2024.

IIT Palakkad BTech Program Details – Syllabus, Curriculum

IIT Palakkad offers a four-year BTech program in 4 disciplines. Each year is divided into 2 semesters and includes a summer break. Every Discipline of the program will have a curriculum and syllabi for the courses approved by the Senate.

Every semester consists of courses including Core Courses, Elective Courses, Project Work, Laboratory-Based Courses, and Interdisciplinary Courses throughout the four years.
The first-year syllabus is common for all the streams whereas from the second year onwards the syllabus varies from different streams as it includes core subjects of each stream.
The minimum number of credits required to successfully complete the BTech program at IIT Palakkad is 160.
BTech students must secure a minimum of 50% of the credits each year to enroll for the next semester.
The project work of 10 Credits will be carried out in two phases during the 7th and 8th semesters.

IIT Palakkad BTech Program Structure

Duration: The maximum duration to complete the BTech course offered at IIT Palakkad is 6 years i.e. 12 semesters. Under no circumstances, a student will be expected to take more than that.
Attendance: A student shall have a minimum attendance of 85% in every semester to be able to qualify for the next semester.
Elective Courses: They include domain-specific courses and are divided into two namely Professional Major Electives (PMEs) and General Category Electives (GCEs).
Assessment Procedure: The minimum weightage for sessional assessment is 40% and that too for end-semester examination is 40%. The minimum sessional assessment weightage for laboratory-based courses is 60%.
Project Evaluation: The project co-ordinator of each discipline will be evaluating a BTech student based on their preferred methodology.
Award of Degree: A student will be awarded a BTech degree if he/she successfully completes all the courses as prescribed in the curriculum.

You should choose the branch in which you are really interested. Here are a few factors which may help you in choosing. IIT Palakkad is a fairly new IIT, whereas IIT Dhanbad is an old reputed institute with an extensive alumni network. If you are genuinely interested in Mathematics, then you should definitely go for MnC. I have some friends in CSE at IIT Dhanbad and their curriculum does not cover Mathematical topics much. IIT Palakkad being a new institute will need time to offer infrastructural facilities at the same level as IIT Dhanbad. Another thing that you need to note is that MMC is an integrated course with a 5-years duration. While CSE at IIT Palakkad will be a Bachelors’s degree or a dual degree. where you need to study for a minimum of 4 or 5 years. Hence, it all depends on you which branch you are more interested in and which will be easier for you.

There are three hostels in IIT-Palakkad, two are old and one is new. Old hostels: Rooms: Rooms are spacious enough for 2 with windows and almirah. A study table is also provided. Others: Basic requirements like heater, geyser, etc are provided by the hostel. Availability of water is 24/7. Sports: A Volleyball court is available in front of the hostel. Most importantly, it has the Innovation Lab housing 3D printers, CNC Routers, almost anything you need to make a product prototype, from tools to materials, you name it we have it (all open for students), and other labs too. Water coolers (for hot, normal, and cold water), warm water for bathing purposes, and Washing Machines on each floor, all for 24 x 7 (Yeah, people even wash clothes 3 in the morning). There is a SAC Office and hostel manager’s office too. H-3 is home to both boys and girls. There are different sections. The maintenance of the rooms is on you. You need to clean it, including the bathrooms.
