Course Details

NIT Andhra Pradesh PhD admission 2023 is open for monsoon session. The last date to apply for online application is May 29, 2023. NIT Andhra Pradesh offers a full-time PhD program for a duration of 3 years and a part-time PhD program for 4 years. Admission to the NIT Andhra Pradesh PhD program is based on the performance in the written test followed by an interview process. Candidates who have qualified for GATE/ CSIR NET/ UGC NET can directly appear for the interview process.

NIT Andhra Pradesh PhD Course Highlights

NIT Andhra Pradesh offers a PhD program in both part-time and full-time mode.
The coursework of the part-time PhD is divided into 8 semesters while for the full-time, it is 6 semesters.
Full-time PhD has two admission modes:
Stipendiary Category and Project Category.
Part-time PhD too has two admission modes: Externally sponsored and Part-time for the working faculties of the institute.
The tuition fee for regular NIT Andhra Pradesh PhD programs is INR 15,000 per semester and for part-time is INR 30,000 per semester.

NIT Andhra Pradesh PhD Eligibility Criteria

Candidates seeking admission to the full-time NIT Andhra Pradesh PhD program shall fulfill the following eligibility criteria:

Candidates must have qualified in GATE or UGC/ CSIR-NET / UGC / INSPIRE in the relevant disciplines.

Engineering Department

Master’s or MS (by research) degree in Engineering/Technology in the relevant branch.
Minimum of 60% aggregate marks or CGPA > 6.4/10 in UG and PG for general candidates.
5% relaxation will be provided to SC/ST/PWD category students.

Students with only a bachelor’s degree can apply and the conditions required are:

A valid GATE scores.
Bachelor’s in Engineering/Technology with at least CGPA of 8.0/10 or 75% of marks under UR and OBC category and at least CGPA of 7.5/10 or 70% for candidates under SC/ST category.

Science & Humanities Department

Master’s degree in Maths, Physics, or Chemistry, or relevant science field.
Minimum of 60% aggregate marks (CGPA >= 6.5/10) in PG for candidates in the General/OBC category.
Minimum of 55% aggregate marks (CGPA >= 6.0/10) in PG for SC/ST category.

Management Department

Master’s degree in Business Administration with a minimum of 60% aggregate marks (CGPA >= 6.5/10) in PG for candidates in the General/OBC category

Candidates will be selected for the NIT Andhra Pradesh PhD program through an institute entrance test and an interview, as per the discretion of the department.

How to Apply?

Visit the NIT Andhra Pradesh official website @nitandhra.ac.in.
Fill in all the required documents as prescribed in the application form.
Pay the application form fee of INR 500 (INR 250 for SC/ST) for each program only through SBI I-collect.
Submit the online application form and keep a copy of the same for future references.
Candidates have to forward the soft copy of the application form, fee payment receipt, and all the documents (merged into one file) through email to phdadmissions@nitandhra.ac.in.
A separate application form has to be submitted for each program/department/school/ discipline.

Program Structure

Coursework: A full-time PhD scholar should complete the coursework in the first three semesters after admission.
Audit Courses: In addition to the whole program requirements, a full-time NIT AP PhD candidate shall complete one of the following audit courses: Research Methodologies, English for Scientific Communication, History of Science and Technology, Professional Ethics
Credit Structure: Minimum course credit requirement for NIT Andhra Pradesh PhD candidates getting admitted with different qualifications is as follows:

Comprehensive Examination: Every PhD student is required to submit his research proposal at least by the time of the Comprehensive Examination. The DSC will assess the proposal at the time of the Comprehensive Examination and communicate the recommendations for approval to the Dean - Academic.
Assessment: After the approval of the research work proposal, assessments are made periodically, through seminars.
Synopsis Submission: Prior to the pre-synopsis seminar, the scholar is required to have at least two papers. The synopsis must be admitted at least one month before submitting the thesis. It must be of a maximum of 15 pages, including references of research work, with the following certificates.
Thesis Submission: The minimum period of thesis submission varies on the qualification of the candidate:

Note: The PhD must be submitted within three months after the submission of the synopsis.

Viva-Voce: If the examiners are unanimous in recommending for the award of the degree on the basis of the thesis without any modification. This case is clear for the final requirement of viva-voice.
Award of The Degree: On the recommendations of the viva-voce board, the senate shall decide whether the candidate should be recommended to the board of governors for the award of the degree of Doctor of Philosophy.

NIT Andhra Pradesh PhD Institute Fellowship

NIT Andhra Pradesh PhD program provides scholars research assistantship under various reputed government and non-government organizations.

All full-time scholars admitted under the Institute fellowship are eligible for the scholarship.
The period of institute scholarship should not exceed 5 years for a person who is employed in the institute temporarily under a project or a scheme or who enjoys an outside scholarship other than QIP/TF.
The tenure of the research scholarship is 3 years counted from the date of joining.
The initial award shall be released for one year and then renewed from year to year up to the third year, subject to satisfactory progress.
The Institute Research scholar is required to carry out his research work regularly under the guidance of the supervisor, without any interruption during the period of the scholarship.

Despite being one of the youngest, NIT Andhra Pradesh is better than many NITs and competing with the top ones. NIT Andhra Pradesh has its own permanent campus with decent infrastructural facilities. The campus has seven boys’ and six girls’ hostels. First-year students are allocated four sharing rooms. Second and third-year students get double sharing rooms and fourth-year students get single accommodation. The institute offers major-minor courses. NIT AP placement record has been pretty good so far. During the 2021 placement drive, NIT Andhra Pradesh highest package was INR 16 LPA. The average CTC stays around INR 6 LPA. Being a newer NIT, there are some advantages and disadvantages of studying in the institute, and some of them are listed below in the key highlights. Key Highlights: NIT Andhra provides an excellent academic facility and curriculum to students. The reason behind such excellence is the fact that the institute is mentored by NIT Warangal. There is a difficulty in mess food at NIT Andhra. The quality of food provided in the hostels is not as good as that of other NITs, due to the absence of such good quality chefs as other NITs. The institute provides a good quality hostel in itself. Until a few years back, the institute had its operations on a temporary campus in Vasavi. It is now shifted to a permanent campus. Overall, NIT Andhra provides all facilities almost as good as other NITs for the overall development of students in the institute. Therefore, NIT Andhra is a good institute, where students are quite sure to overcome the little difficulties in living inside the campus and be decent engineers after their graduation.

My sister studies at one of the old NITs which are much better as far as networking and alumni support are concerned; they are better than the NIT you're enquiring about. Its ranking is not clearly available on major ranking platforms also. Apart from this, you may want to note these down- Do not select any of the following NIT campuses: Andhra Pradesh, Mizoram, Puducherry, Goa, Arunachal Pradesh, and Sikkim. NIT Andhra Pradesh was established in September 2015 and hence, there's a dearth of good companies and excellent jobs. If you're moving there from another state, then I'd advise you to spare the effort because the crowd is not very bright. The central government has not made any provision for the allocation of funds for NIT Andhra Pradesh, but you'd find that huge sums have been invested in IIT Hyderabad and NIT Warangal. However, NIT is still in its developing phase, it has the potential to become as successful as its other namesakes but being new, permanent faculty is still to be recruited, some equipment is missing too, but being dedicated you might excel even there. Now, I hope you'd understand that there are much better institutes in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana like JNTUH, JNTUK, IIT Hyderabad, IIIT Hyderabad etc. Well-known companies would actually like to recruit from these institutions rather than from NIT AP.
