Any student who completed 12th std and a repeater could sit for the exam BITSAT which is the official entrance examination for entering any BITS institute. I gave the exam on 7th August 2021 in Mumbai. I got 257/450 in the exam and according to the cutoff, I was allotted the Electronics and Instrumentation (ENI) branch after 11 iterations and 2 spot rounds. The admission process was kind of tricky due to the corona situation, but in my opinion, the college handled it pretty well.

Birla Institute of Technology and Science - [BITS]: 53 answered questions

Ques
How did BITS Goa and Hyderabad develop so quickly?

● Top Answer By Aditi Kasyup on 01 Mar 22

Ans
Naturally, BITS Goa and Hyderabad weren’t planned randomly. There are years of strategic planning behind the establishment of these campuses.  I learned from one of the faculties of BITS Pilani that the late Mr. K. K Birla wanted to expand BITS campuses way back in 1990s and assigned the task to the administration to find a suitable location for the second campus. During the tech boom of the 90s, IT companies were setting up shops everywhere in cities like Bangalore, Mumbai. They strategically choose Goa as it is between these two locations and well-connected because of its airport. The location also helped them attract faculties from IIT Bombay and IISc Bangalore. Mr. Monahar Parrikar, then CM approved the project quickly, and that’s how it was possible to set up the Goa campus so quickly. The Hyderabad campus also has a similar story. Mr. Chandra Babu Naidu, the CM of united Andra Pradesh back then, requested BITS to set up a campus in Hyderabad. He provided land for the campus and construction work was quick to follow. When the first batch joined in 20008, the infrastructure was already done.

Ques
What should I choose between IIT Madras civil and BITS Hyderabad CSE?

● Top Answer By Jeet Shah on 23 Jul 21

Ans
Both the options you have chosen here are equally good but IIT Madras is one of the 7 old IITs and is a well-reputed institute. If you are not looking to join a particular branch, my suggestion would be to go with IIT Madras. The placement statistics are great and overall, you will also get exposure to good faculty. If you are looking to join Computer Science, you can think of going to BITS Hyderabad, but you should know that there is an increase in fees every year. This increase will be around 10-15%. The field of CSE will always ensure that you get a good placement package. But, for this, you need to ensure that you have good programming skills. It will get better over the years. You should go ahead with IIT as this will provide good chances for you to get into core industries. If this is not your plan, you can think of pursuing Master’s in Management. The entrepreneurial culture is also quite l promoted at old IITs.

Ques
Which college should I prefer NIT rkl or BITS Goa or Hyderabad even?

● Top Answer By Ribhu Arya on 20 Aug 21

Ans
When it comes down to making a choice between institutes it is better to think point-wise before coming to a decision. Everyone wants a good institute to study in which has great academics and also has great placements along with extracurricular activities. BITS Goa would be the better option here only if there’s no financial problem. NIT Rourkela is also one of the best NITs, but when it comes to CSE department BITS will take the lead here. BITS Pilani or the Goa campus would be more preferable over NIT Rourkela. Categories NIT Rourkela BITS Goa BITS Hyderabad Course Fee 6.4 lakh 19.19 lakh 19.19 lakh Highest CTC 20 LPA 24 LPA 25 LPA Average CTC 12-13 LPA 11 LPA 12 LPA Recruiting Companies Amazon, Goldman Sachs, Infosys, SAP Labs, etc. Google, nVidia, DE Shaw, Arcesium, etc. Qualcomm, Cisco, Oracle, Texas Instruments, etc. As of the current situation BITS, institutes have a high ranking place in our society with excellent academic records as well as placement stats. BITS Pilani is considered as an epitome of CSE engineering by most of the aspirants these days. Only the top 3 leading IIT’s are in comparison with BITS Pilani.

Ques
Between MSc physics at BITS Goa and MSc physics at BITS Hyderabad, which one should one choose?

● Top Answer By Anamika Pathak on 10 Aug 21

Ans
You should definitely go with BITS Goa. The physics faculty at the institute is really good and no one can reiterate this enough. If you happen to take courses like Mechanics and OScil, you will realize this in the first year itself. Moreover, the college festival, Waves, is a major highlight. Many discussions regarding the best departments in the college have always had synchronous replies with physics being the major answer. The faculty members are well versed in the field and are dedicated individuals. But if you are still confused, you must know that the curriculum and syllabus are the same on all three campuses. Your degree will finally specify that you graduated from BITS Pilani.

Ques
Which course is better: CSE at BITS Hyderabad or IT at IIIT Allahabad?

● Top Answer By Richa Barua on 26 Mar 21

Ans
Ans. If you have to choose between BITS and IIITA. You should definitely go with IIIT Allahabad. At IIITA, there is no home state quota i.e. seats reserved for students of Allahabad. BITS has a no-reservation policy. Particulars BITS Hyderabad IIIT Allahabad Fees/year INR 4,23,475 INR 1,64,700 Highest Package Offered INR 40 LPA INR 43 LPA Average CTC 11 LPA 20.8 LPA Closing ranks 342 (BITSAT) 5330 (JEE Mains) Placement Percentage 94% 96% Recruiting Companies Microsoft, Google, Dell, Aditya Birla Group, Microsoft, Amazon, etc. Google, Microsoft, Paytm, Amazon, Flipkart, Infosys, Wipro, Linkedin, Zomato, Walmart Labs, Oyo, Samsung, etc. Around 25% of students have received Pre-Placement Offers from some of the top companies in the final year at BITS Hyderabad. Coding Culture IIIT Allahabad has a coding culture that is renowned and is best in class. BITS Hyderabad’s coding culture is good but lacks in some aspects as compared to IIITA. So, if you have the option to choose between CSE at BITS Hyderabad and IT at IIIT Allahabad, go with IIITA as it is better than BITS in almost all aspects.

Ques
Which is better, BITS Hyderabad for an MSc. in maths or Vasavi College of Engineering for a CSE?

● Top Answer By Jeet Shah on 24 Mar 23

Ans
If you're trying to decide between pursuing a Master of Science in Mathematics at BITS Hyderabad and a Computer Science Engineering degree at Vasavi College of Engineering, here's some information that may help you make an informed decision. If finances are not a major concern, it may be a good idea to choose BITS Hyderabad's MSc Mathematics program over Vasavi's CSE program. The reason for this is that in the second year of the MSc Mathematics program, you will be allocated a BE degree. If you have a good CGPA in your first year of the MSc program, you may be allocated a good B.E. degree, such as in Computer Science Engineering (CSE) or any circuit branch. This is significant because a B.E. degree from BITS Hyderabad is highly regarded and could provide a good return on investment in terms of career opportunities and earning potential. Additionally, BITS Hyderabad has a reputation for providing quality education and exposure to industry-relevant skills and knowledge. It's important to note that while a good CGPA can increase your chances of getting a desirable B.E. degree at BITS Hyderabad, there is no guarantee. Additionally, pursuing an MSc in Mathematics and a subsequent B.E. degree may require more effort and time commitment than pursuing only a CSE degree at Vasavi College of Engineering. Ultimately, the decision between BITS Hyderabad's MSc Mathematics program and Vasavi's CSE program depends on your personal preferences, career goals, and financial situation. It's recommended that you research and compare the programs, their admission requirements, course curriculum, faculty, and placement records before making a decision.

Ques
Which is better, mechanical at BITS Pilani Hyderabad or ECE at NIT Calicut?

● Top Answer By Abanti Ghose on 20 Aug 21

Ans
Both the colleges are really good and come with their own tags. In one, you will have the NITian tag and the other will give you a BITS tag. In the end, you will have to make a choice between the branch and which one you like more. If you are interested in coding and electronics, ECE will be a good fit for you. If you are good with fluid mechanics, thermodynamics and like hands-on work with machines, mechanical is another really good option. With ECE, you will probably end up working in core firms that are IT-based. You should figure out what kind of life you are looking for and what field you want to study.

Ques
What should I choose, a dual degree MSc program in BITS Hyderabad or some branch in NIT Raipur, or CSE in NIT Puducherry?

● Top Answer By Sreelekha Ghosh, on 25 Oct 21

Ans
Choose BITS Hyderabad over NIT Raipur or NIT Puducherry. Here are some of the reasons for choosing this institute: They offer a beautiful campus with an enthusiastic student crowd. BITS Hyderabad has updated modern machinery and lab facilities. The placements definitely differ between the BITS and NITs. NIT Raipur is very old-fashioned in its approach towards studying and learning. Their faculties teaching method is old and prefers their students mugging up notes rather than learning and understanding something. BITS, unlike NIT Raipur, their teaching method is industry-oriented. You might think that going for a dual degree is better as IT companies only prefer CSE graduates. But nowadays this notion has changed as with big data and analytics creating a boom, more and more such companies visiting campuses and hiring people from all branches. Therefore it is suggested that you go for BITS Hyderabad, where you will grow and learn in a much more competitive environment. Your vision will be broadened.

Ques
Which is a better option: EEE at BITS Goa/Hyd or ECE at NIT Delhi?

● Top Answer By Sampriti Guha on 26 Aug 21

Ans
There are 2 factors involved here. First is the branch and the second is the institute. Speaking course wise ECE and EEE are somewhat similar and offer good career opportunities. You can choose either according to your interest.  NIT Delhi is 2 years younger than BITS Hyderabad campus and 6 years younger than BITS Goa campus. The older the institute offers better opportunities and better known.  So BITS has an edge over NIT Delhi in providing the best opportunities when the institute factor is taken. BITS also has much more recruiters than NIT Delhi. According to the recent placement highlights the average CTC offered at BITS Goa and BITS Hyderabad is around 5 LPA.

Ques
What is the cancellation procedure of an admission at BITS Pilani, Hyderabad campus and the refund of the fee?

● Top Answer By Rijata Singhania on 17 Jul 21

Ans
The cancellation policy has been kept the same at all three campuses. You will be shortlisted for admission or put on the waiting list in the Integrated First Degree Programme on the basis of BITSAT. Then you are required to pay the fees in advance for the respective subject. If the application form already has specified the respective program you’re willing to pursue, you will have to pay the admission fee i.e 28,050/- and the first-semester tuition fees i.e. 1,13,300/- within the deadline. In case you are still on the waiting list, you will need to only pay the admission fee. However, if you’re offered admission but choose to remit by not reporting at the institute on the given date then you can forfeit the total fees, in case the seat remains vacant due to withdrawal. After a deduction of INR 1000, the remaining amount will be refunded. If you accept the admission offer and choose to withdraw after reporting at the campus on the due date, you will be able to only withdraw the first semester fees, worth INR 1,13,300. Now, due to the slide-up procedures, the seat remaining vacant will be attempted to fill up in the later iterations following the first. In case you are on the waiting list until even the final date, the collected fees will be refunded back within the specified date. If you choose to pay the admission fee, you cannot subsequently remit from the process that includes “sliding up”, which simply means opting for other options like reassigning a program or choosing a different campus than the one already enrolled at. During the remission of fees, you’re not permitted to stipulate any order or conditions, such as changing the preferences, or other relevant factors that come with it. It will be ignored if even mentioned. However, if you’re one of the shortlisted candidates, then the conditions stipulated might be applicable. The institute, by all means, can refuse admission on varied criteria without assigning further reasons behind the process. Principally, the ultimatum provided by the Vice-Chancellor shall be considered the final decision, regardless of any factor whatsoever.
