IIT Kharagpur LLM Admissions are over now. Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur provides Masters in Law in 7 specializations under the Rajiv Gandhi School of Intellectual Property Law for the duration of 2 years. IIT Kharagpur LLM is a credit-based course. The minimum requirement to apply for the LLM course at IIT Kharagpur is LLB with a minimum of 60% aggregate marks. IIT Kharagpur LLM Eligibility Criteria

Candidates who wish to seek admission for LLM) program offered at IIT Kharagpur shall have passed the minimum eligibility criteria as mentioned below:

Must have passed with a minimum of 60% aggregate marks or CGPA 6.0 in Bachelor of Laws LL.B. or B.L. (5 years) program from any recognized University.
Must have passed with a minimum of 60% aggregate marks or CGPA 6.0 in Bachelor of Laws LL.B. or B.L. (3 years) program from any recognized University along with Bachelor's Degree (not less than 3 years) in Humanities/ Science/ Commerce or equivalent.
Students that have LL.B (Hons.) in Intellectual Property Law from the IIT Kharagpur with CGPA of 8.5 or above are eligible for admission.
5% relaxation in qualifying examination marks is provided for SC/ST/PWD candidates.

IIT Kharagpur LLM Admission Guidelines

Admissions to IIT Kharagpur LLM degree is Merit-Based.
Candidates need to appear for CET (Common Entrance Test). After IIT Kharagpur declares the result, the institute invites qualified candidates to participate in the counseling process.
The final seats are provided to candidates based on their qualifying examination marks, performance in CET, and personal interviews.
The weightage given to the admission test is 70% and the interview round is 30%.
Candidates who will be allotted admission seats shall visit the college for document verification and confirmation of the admission seats.

How to Apply?

Candidates seeking admission in the IIT Kharagpur LLM program can apply by following the below steps:

Visit the IIT Kharagpur official website @iitkgp.ac.in.
Register using email ID and phone number.
Now, log in using a user ID. Fill the application form thoroughly with all the correct details.
Candidates are also required to upload their essential documents as prescribed in the application form.
Candidates shall submit the application fee of INR 3000 while the application fee for candidates belonging to the reserved category is INR 1500.

IIT Kharagpur LLM Entrance Exam pattern 2023

The entrance exam for the LLM program is based on a Computer-Based test (CBT). Candidates qualifying for the CBT are called for the final interview rounds. The admission test for the LLM program consists of questions on law based on the BCI-approved LLB syllabus only. There is no negative marking in the examination. Marks allotted for both CBT and interview rounds are as follows:

LLM – entrance test consists of two stages:
(i) Computer Based Test (CBT): 70%
(ii) Personal Interview (PI): 30%

The Computer based test (CBT) will have multiple choice questions approved by the Bar Council of India. Candidates appearing for the written exam must score a minimum of 35% marks to appear for the PI round. Candidates shortlisted on this criteria will be called for the Interview round. The final selection of the candidate will be based on Interview round only.

Both institutes face a certain level of locational disadvantage but IIT Kanpur is still slightly better in this aspect.

One of my friends had the absolute delight to appear for the PGDBA interview conducted by a multifaceted panel. He shared his interview experience which might help you a bit. Before the interview began, he was taken for a Verification Round wherein, every detail of academics scores or other profile-related information was cross-checked on the IIMs format. Once they received an IIM-verified document they were escorted to the interview venue. The interview room had 3 panels; one from each institute obviously. They asked for his brief introduction first. On hearing about his interest in Data Analytics, panelists probed him further with questions like What is Data Analytics Difference between analytics and analysis Contemporary Data analytics and ML They further asked him why he chose Analytics. He told them that the increasing demand for the same in Europe and China made him realize how much India lacks in this aspect and thus he wanted to invest his efforts in Data Analytics. Next, he was tested on his knowledge of Statistics and Mathematics with questions like Difference between mean, mode, Media Skewness Relationship of mean, mode, and median in a positive Skew graph Hypothesis Testing What is Anova The next panelist took the reins and gave him a problem from SPC quality control. He asked him how do you know that his process in electric bulb making is as per customer Norma and is statistically controlled. My friend was able to answer most of the questions confidently and even solved this problem through charts. Lastly, he was asked about his extracurricular activities and hobbies. The discussion ended with him asking about GST and the difference between GST and previous tax. Even though he gave a common answer, he managed to convert the interview.

ISI Kolkata is the best option for MSc in Maths, followed by IISc. IIT KGP is reputed in the technology domain, but for core science subjects, it’s not a good option. If you are interested to pursue pure Mathematics, choosing ISI is the best option among these. It specializes in the field. You will get better career opportunities and exposure in the field.

The competition to get into NLSIU is very high due to the merit-based system and they have equally impressive placements. IIT Kharagpur, on the other hand, has a very high number of graduates each year, but they do not get offers as high as NLSIU. But you should be considering which of these colleges would add more value to you. Even if you choose to do an LLB from IIT Kharagpur, you should know that it is the first premier institute for engineering. Whereas NLSIU is one of the best universities in the country for law. Do not choose a college just because it has better placement, instead focus on which college is better for your career in law. A degree from NLSIU would always hold a better position than a degree in Law from an IIT. There are so many people that drop out of college just because they failed to research better about their career path and what was good for them.

According to your assessment of your interests, you have a preference for fields involving mathematics and statistics. Analytical science is an excellent fit in that regard.
