Chandigarh University has excellent infrastructure, academics, and faculty. Academics are changed on a regular basis. A Corporate Advisory Board (CAB) provides input to help keep the curriculum streamlined. Students are recruited by top-tier companies. The placement record is outstanding.

Practical learning is prioritized. Those on the other side of the table who prefer extracurricular activities will find a plethora of sports and cultural opportunities and events at CU. Scholarships are available in a variety of categories. Every university is exceptional in its own right. And being the best does not preclude it from having flaws or drawbacks. CU is excellent in its own right. Campus and hostel security is excellent.

During campus hours, you must wear your ID card. If you are interested, you can participate in a variety of events, sports, and other activities. You have a lot more options there.

I am here to give you a very honest opinion based on my brother's experience at Chandigarh University. The university does everything but imparts good quality education and is more like a money-making machine. The points below will clarify my point further

  • The faculty pool comprises ignorant professors who are just Master graduates from CU itself. All their lectures are copy paste material and the classes are extremely monotonous with no dynamic or practical approach at all. These professors have no area of expertise and teach different subjects in different semesters
  • There are illogical restrictions and very tight schedules. You don’t get to roam even after classes are over and if you don’t reach the block by 9 30 am, you will find it closed.
  • The syllabus is exhaustive and chaotic comprising so many irrelevant theoretical subjects making students rote learners with minimal understanding of concepts
  • No additional skills like coding, data analysis, and programming are taught. Everything is taught with a theoretical approach with no hands on experience.
  • A huge number of assignments and projects are assigned meant to be completed within a week leaving no time for additional activities or studies.
  • There are attendance policies requiring you to maintain 75% attendance with strict reprimands like debarring
  • The college is not exactly located in Chandigarh but in the outskirts in a village area with no transport facilities.
  • The hostel and mess facilities are appalling

No doubt, the college has a lot of companies coming for placements but the scenario for that isn’t very different. So, I will recommend you to go for any other engineering college after proper research.

If you have a handful of tier-3 private universities and less recognized government colleges in your choice list and you don't want to waste a year, joining Chandigarh University can be the best shot you have got. When you join Chandigarh University, you must be ready to learn yourself because you won't be learning much in the majority of lectures, but you need to study yourself to be proficient in anything.

Here are some of the pros and cons of joining Chandigarh University:

Pros:

  • No Raging at all, which is great because you can focus on your studies without being disturbed by bullies.
  • Excellent placements: The university brings top product-based companies like Google, Informatica, Amazon American Express, Code Nation, Walmart, Nutanix, JusPay, and many others companies to the campus for placements.
  • Support for NCC and sports activities: If you are good at sports, the university will support you and give you attendance, even scholarships for you to play and represent them.
  • The fees here are comparatively less and they offer many scholarships to the students too.
  • Good foreign exchange programs: You can meet a lot of international students on campus, and you can also go to other international universities for semester exchange if you are interested.
  • Placement starts as early as the end of the 6th semester for CSE students.
  • Close to the mountains: A three-hour drive can take you to Shimla, Manali, Triund, Rishikesh and all other beautiful spots are nearby, so in case you want to travel and you like mountains, you can make the best of your college life on weekends.
  • The college campus is huge with many facilities, including a stadium and a Dominos outlet, so you don't need to step out of the campus.
  • If a new movie is about to release, you should expect the star cast of that movie to appear on the campus for promotion. It is crazy; everyone has been here.

Cons:

  • Lots of students: There are 2500+ students in CSE, which means competition is tough, but this is also beneficial as you can score well and there are many more opportunities that are made available.
  • Strict School-like rules: Girls are locked in the girl's hostel, and they are not allowed beyond 8 p.m. outside their hostel, which is not ideal.
  • Hostel food: Just like every other college, you may start hating the food after two months of joining.
  • Attendance: You have to maintain 75% attendance like other colleges, but you can get away by participating in multiple contests and other activities, which will give you duty leaves that add up to the attendance.
  • ID Card: You have to wear an ID card, or else the chancellor might catch you and scold you, and some guards may check you for ID cards as if you are carrying explosives in your bag.
  • Lots of guys: Although there are many girls on campus, there are also a lot of guys, which means competition is high.
  • Young teachers: Some of the teachers are young and teach first-year students, but after the first year, you get experienced and much-reputed professors. However, having young teachers helps you connect with them more, and you may have many teachers as friends.
  • Forced participation: If there is an event and they don't have enough participation, they might chase you and bring you from hostels, which can be fun.
  • Uniform on Wednesdays: You have to wear a uniform on Wednesdays, or else you may be fined or not allowed in the classes.

Regarding infrastructure and facilities, Chandigarh University's average cannot be compared with LPU, SRM, or any other big university. However, in terms of placements, CGC brings great happiness. The placement opportunities at CGC are pretty good, especially for software engineering. Many reputed companies like Google, Amazon, Flipkart, Dell, IBM, Infosys, Cognizant, etc., visit the campus for recruitment.

CGC is growing very fast and is becoming the number-one university in the northern region for software engineering. However, the number of students per stream is around 1400, which is quite a large number, making competition challenging. The teachers in the first year may need improvement, but after you go to your core branch in the second year, the staff is well experienced and quite good.

CGC conducts various competitive fests and workshops. Additionally, they provide international internships with foreign universities in the USA, Canada, and more. CGC has also started the TPP program, which teaches students aptitude, C, C++, and communication skills, preparing them for technical interviews during placements.

Overall, CGC is a good college, but attendance is a major issue. A minimum of 75% attendance is compulsory to give the examination. Even if you get 74.4%, you will not be able to give your final exams. In case, you're thinking of doing B. Tech from Chandigarh, you should first give preference to Thapar, CCET, and PEC.
