NIT Hamirpur PhD Eligibility Criteria
- Candidates must have a Master’s Degree in the appropriate branch under the departments of Engineering/Science/Humanities and Social Sciences/Management Studies/Architecture with a minimum score of 60% marks or 6.5 CGPA.
- Or Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering/Management Studies/Architecture under the appropriate branch with the minimum score of 80% or 8.5 CGPA, 75% or 8.0 CGPA, 80% or 8.5 CGPA respectively.
- SC/ST are provided 5% relaxation of marks.
- For Sponsored Candidates, a minimum of two-year experience is required along with the qualification in National Eligibility Test; UGC-NET/UGC-CSIR NET or GATE examination. He/ she is also required to submit a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from their particular employer/organization.

Candidates for the NIT Hamirpur PhD program have to undergo through 2 stages:
Stage-I: The online screening test in the relevant discipline. The syllabi for the test will be as per GATE/NET examination in the respective subjects. The test shall be of 90 minutes duration for 60 marks consisting of multiple choice questions in the relevant discipline. The minimum qualifying marks for appearing in Stage-II will be 50% in the screening test.
Stage-II: The candidates who qualify to Stage-II shall appear for interview and presentation. The presentation should be brief and clear (around 5-10 minutes) highlighting the basic idea of proposed research. The presentation must broadly include: The topic/subject of the proposed research work. An outline containing introduction to the subject, international/national importance, broad objectives, scope and methodology of research work with relevant literature review. How to Apply?
- The applicants have to apply online through a link available at Institute website nith.ac.in.
- A candidate has to first register with a valid email id and mobile number.
- Application fee is INR 1200 for Open/EWS/OBC and INR 600 for SC/ST per application is to be paid online through SBI Collect as per the procedure mentioned.
- If a candidate is applying in more than one Department, a separate application is to be submitted and processing fee is to be paid for each application.
- Before starting the online filling process, the candidates must have a soft copy of recent passport size photograph and scanned copy of signature in JPEG format, scanned copy of the documents in pdf format and must have paid application fee online through SBI Collect.
- The applicant shall have to take the print of the filled in online form and paste his/her passport size photograph on it and upload its scanned copy along with other documents.
- The candidate should solemnly and sincerely affirm that the statement made and information furnished by him/her in the application form is true and correct and no information has been concealed. However, if later on any information or document furnished is found to be fraudulent, incorrect or untrue, he/she would be liable to appropriate action and his/her admission shall automatically be cancelled.
- If required, the Institute may also conduct a written Examination for selection of eligible candidates centrally.

When I asked a senior of mine the same question, she told me to exclude NIT Raipur. The reason is, NIT Raipur is one of the newer institutes and to be considered worthy, the institute has to improve a lot.
The other two institutes, however, would be a tough call.
My senior said BIT Mesra is slightly ahead of NIT Hamirpur just because the former has been around for much longer than the latter.
Despite all that, NIT Hamirpur is located in pleasant surroundings. In addition to that, it will also give you the NIT tag and is an INI. So, in the case of comparison by merit, it all depends on who has the higher cut-off in a particular session.
NIT Hamirpur is also a new NIT and it is improving with each day. On the other hand, the quality of education, placements in the electrical branch of NIT Raipur are going down with each passing day.

My brother is from PEC Chandigarh, so I might be able to share some facts with you. Some important factors regarding placements of PEC include the following:
PEC has an academic policy that requires you to complete a 6-month internship in an industry or a research laboratory during the fifth semester. It strengthens the industry-academia relationship while also securing good PPO. This policy does not apply to NITs.
PEC's alumni-institution relationship is one-of-a-kind because of its long history. Try to construct it at NITH so that in upcoming days it'll be fruitful.
A dedicated Career Development and Guidance Cell (former TPO) is required to contact and invite large corporations to the campus.
With the practical approach to teaching and the freedom to participate in extracurricular activities, PEC students have a lower academic load than NITH students.

My cousin recently enrolled in NIT Hamirpur and definitely loves the state-of-the-art facilities. It provides and its modern infrastructure. It has excellent facilities in its 320 acres area which includes a computer centre, a library with over 100,000 books, an auditorium, a guest house, sports grounds, solar heaters, hostels, gym, and of course- lifts.
NIT Hamirpur has a lift facility in the departments which offer UG programs. Some more lifts have been added in some of the newly built hostels which are for students in the second year and beyond, much Iike NIT Nagpur has a lift in the new academic block and the new hostel.
Another point here, the New Hostels are for girls and boys in the first year, only.
