Placement Interviews officially start from 1st December every year. After 7 days the first phase is officially over. Everyone doesn't get placed. Around 12-15% students remain unplaced at the end of the placement season. To get them placed College organises later phase of the placement season but the companies in that are not generally well established. College also contacts it's alums for the placement. Highest CTC is around 2.4Cr(international), Average- 22L and lowest below ₹10L. For my course most of the students do not apply for placements, they apply for Masters in foreign universities. Microsoft, Google hire in bulk with each hiring 20-25 students and they pay around ₹40L -45L. Placement committee contacts and invites the companies for placement season. The process is definitely not 100% transparent as there are some instances of favoritism.
I applied to almost all the old IITs and got a seat in IIT Dhanbad, IIT BHU, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Kanpur, IIT Guwahati. I chose IIT Guwahati over others because I got Engineering Physics there. I was always interested in Research and want to work in academia. IITG was established more as a research institute than an engineering institute so it was a pretty good choice for me. I didn't get a good branch in IITB, IITM and IITD so I chose IITG. The reason is obviously the jee rank. I didn't focused more on chemistry during JEE which lowered my rank a bit. For admission to IITG in Btech Engineering Physics the only way is IIT - JEE. For masters you can apply using your GATE or JAM score. During my admission it was covid lockdown so the whole process was completely online. After seat allotment, I accepted the seat and paid the counselling fee. Few days later I got a email from IITG regarding verification and uploaded the necessary documents. After verification I paid the admission fee and my admission got confirmed.

Read Full ReviewBoth IIT Guwahati and IIT Kanpur are well-respected institutions, known for their high-quality education and research. Comparing the two is already justified and saying that one institution is becoming the next of the other is more so. Both institutions have their strengths and areas of expertise. Yet, if I was to choose one I would have always gone for IIT Kanpur.
Some points that favor my preference are as follows:
Overall, even if Guwahati was to be compared to IIT Kanpur, it still has a long way to go until it becomes the next IIT Kanpur.
You should take IIT Gandhinagar CSE. It is one of the fastest-growing IIT, and offers good opportunities for placements and internships. According to the placement highlights of IIT Gandhinagar, each year around 80% of students get placed from CSE. The average CTC offered is around INR 18 LPA. While the highest CTC goes up to INR 40 LPA. Adani, Goldman Sachs, Infosys, Tata are some of the major recruiters for the CSE branch.
CSE at IIIT Hyderabad is so far the best possible program one can aspire for in India in the software industry. It’s better than IIT-B CSE and hence, far better than BITS Pilani or IITG CSE.
IIIT Hyderabad
BITS Pilani
IITG MnC
Considering all pointers mentioned above, it is clear that CSE at IIIT Hyderabad will be a best suited option for you.
IIT Guwahati is one of the top engineering institutions in India and has a well-established ECE program with a strong focus on research. The institution has state-of-the-art facilities and offers many opportunities for collaboration and networking with other leading institutions in India and around the world.
Both NIT Surathkal and IIT Guwahati are excellent choices for pursuing an MTech program in ECE. You should consider your personal preferences, career goals, and research interests when making a decision between the two. It's also recommended to visit the campuses, speak to current students and alumni, and explore the curriculum and research opportunities to make an informed decision.
However, when considering the choice between IIT Guwahati and NIT Surathkal for MTech programs in ECE, it is important to note that while both institutions offer excellent programs, the brand and reputation of IITs are highly valued by companies. Therefore, the tag of IIT may carry more weight in the eyes of potential employers.
It’s difficult to compare IIT Roorkee and IIT Guwahati as both are institutes with excellent infrastructure and educational opportunities. As far as VLSI placements are concerned, both have almost the same companies visiting for placements with similar packages. The only advantage Guwahati has over Roorkee is airport connectivity. However, Roorkee too has a winning element which is its larger alumni base in comparison to Guwahati.
Most semiconductor companies like Qualcomm, INTEL, Samsung, TI, NVDIA, NXP, and ON Semiconductor visit both institutes with similar job profiles. However, Micron Semiconductor visits only IIT Madras, IISc, and IIT Bombay.
Some more top companies that visit IIT Roorkee and IIT Guwahati for VLSI placements are
So we can say that the VLSI placement scenario at both institutes is equally good.
I assume that you haven’t decided on a specific branch and hence you have multiple options open from different institutes and branches. Before I give you my suggestion it’s important to know that most non-CS students at IIT Bombay and IIT Kharagpur try to get a job in CS only. For this, they learn programming and sit for non-core placements.
For the same reason, I am recommending you join either BHU or Guwahati (CSE).
In the end unless you are a North-Eastern, BHU is the best option for you. Either way you are good to go and thus can make a decision that suits your location.
The choice of college and branch totally depends on your inclination and career prospects. Yet, a few pointers you might consider
For MBA/ non-core jobs/Startups: IIT Delhi Textile is the best choice if you are looking for any 3 of these options. Its excellent location provides enough exposure to give you access to unimaginable opportunities. Many events hosted by industry experts, CEOs of big companies, and successful entrepreneurs will give a better insight into the startup culture. Moreover, students preparing for competing exams can easily access coaching centers nearby.
Research in Biotechnology: If you are interested in research in general or Biotechnology specifically, then the Biotechnology at KGP is an excellent choice. It is one of the most demanding fields in terms of research and general growth. With a good CGPA, you can find a research internship or you can apply for MS or Ph.D. Even job opportunities are plentiful.
Campus: IIT Delhi is better because of its small size and location
Lastly, Engineering Physics from IIT Guwahati should be considered only if you are genuinely passionate about Physics and want to pursue a research career in the same. The curriculum comprises high-tech mathematical concepts and is a good option to pursue a career in economics and computer science.
It is difficult to say which program is better as it is more of a matter of personal interest than program worth. However, it is a well-established fact that IITs are highly respected and provide an excellent education in the field of computer science and engineering (CSE). Both the CSE programs; the 5-year program at IIT Kharagpur and the 4-year program at IIT Guwahati, IIT Roorkee, and IIT BHU are equally good academically.
If it’s placements you are concerned about, IIT BHU will satisfy all your expectations as it has the best companies, amazing coding culture, and an elaborate alumni network. The highest package for 2022-2023 placements was reported to be INR 1.2 CPA with top companies like Microsoft Google, and Facebook visiting the campus to hire for their Seattle/California office. Most reputed companies in India pay a visit to IIT BHU and sometimes offer more than one offer to each student. Some students even have PPOs way before the placement season begins. If placements are your concern you can rest assured as the CSE branch at IIT BHU offers the best packages in top companies. Some top recruiters include
Additionally, it would be important to consider your personal interests, career goals, and other factors when making this decision.
During the recent placements, 85.71% of students from the B.Des batch of IIT Bombay got placement offers. The median and average CTC offered to IIT Bombay B.Des students were INR 35 LPA and INR 17.9 LPA, respectively.
IIT Guwahati B.Des is one of the highly paid branch. Almost 95% of students from the branch get placed each year. The average CTC for the branch is INR 14-15 LPA. Students of B.Des are usually employed in roles like UI/UX designers. Some of the major recruiters are Uber, Sprinklr, AppDynamics, Myntra, etc.
When it comes to Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) programs, IIIT Hyderabad is undoubtedly one of the best options available. The study environment and coding culture at IIIT Hyderabad are unmatched, making it a great choice for students interested in CSE.
However, if you are looking for a more well-rounded college experience that includes a relaxed and enjoyable campus life, an older IIT may be a better choice for you. While IIIT Hyderabad excels in academics, it may not provide the same level of student life experience as an IIT.
When deciding between colleges, it is important to consider all aspects of the institution, not just academics. For example, BITS Pilani is an excellent college in all aspects, but if you have the option of getting into an older IIT such as IIT Guwahati, it may be a better choice for you.
Similarly, when choosing between BHU and IIT Guwahati, it is advisable to choose IIT Guwahati. While BHU has recently been given the IIT tag, IIT Guwahati is now being compared to older IITs and is even beating some of them in various rankings.
Finally, if you do not get admission into CSE with a rank of 803, Mathematics and Computing (MnC) is always an option. In fact, MnC is a safer option with better placement opportunities at IIT Guwahati. So, you can always consider MnC if you don't get CSE.
