GATE 2022 Cut off for IIT Madras is the minimum score required by the candidates to secure admission to M.Tech courses. GATE 2020 Cut off for IIT Madras for Computer Science & Engineering discipline was 811 for Gen/EWS, 721 for OBC, 542 for SC, and 457 for ST category. GATE 2020 cut off for IIT Madras was the highest for the Microelectronics & VLSI Design discipline, i.e., 876. For other disciplines of M.Tech, the average IIT Madras cut off 2020 was above 700 for the General category candidates. Check GATE Cut off

GATE 2022 will be conducted on Feb 5, 6, 12, and 13, 2022. M.Tech admission to IIT Madras will be granted on the basis of GATE 2022 scores and the choices provided in the application form. IIT graduates having a B.Tech degree with a CGPA of 8.0 (on a scale of 10) or above can apply without GATE Scores. Based on past trends, IIT Madras M.Tech admission process is expected to begin in the third week of March 2022. Candidates not only need to register at the respective institute but also for GATE COAP Counselling.

IIT Madras M.Tech Admission through GATE 2022: Eligibility Criteria

Students must fulfill the required eligibility criteria to apply for M.Tech admissions at IIT Madras. Otherwise, their application will be rejected straightaway. The minimum eligibility criteria for GATE qualified students are as follows:

Eligibility Criteria for IIT Graduates

Students who have completed their bachelor’s studies from one of the IITs can apply for M.Tech admissions without GATE scores. IIT graduates need to fulfill the following criteria to be eligible for M.tech admissions at IIT Madras:

  • General category candidates should have scored CGPA 8.0 or above on a scale of 10, whereas SC/ ST category candidates must have scored CGPA 7.5 or above.
  • Applicants will also need to appear for an interview at their respective departments

IIT Madras M.Tech Admission through GATE 2022: Registration Process

Candidates who fulfill the eligibility criteria mentioned above can apply for M. Tech admissions at IIT Madras using the following steps:

  • Visit the official website of IIT Madras M. Tech admissions.
  • Click on the link stating “Apply Online” after the website opens. (If you are applying for multiple courses you will have to submit a separate application for each course.)
  • Fill in all the required details in the application form carefully and provide your valid Mobile number and Email-Id to complete the registration. You will then receive your login credentials on the mobile number or email id provided during registration.
  • Use the credentials to log in to the portal and complete the online application procedure. (Remember, the details cannot be edited once the application is submitted. So, verify each detail carefully before submitting the application form.)
  • After filling in all the details asked in the application form, scan and upload the required documents.
  • Next, pay the online application fees (INR 200 for SC/ ST/ PWD Candidates and INR 400 for others) and take a printout of the application form for future use.

IIT Madras Admission Process

IIT Madras M.Tech Admission through GATE 2022: Admission Process

IIT Madras will announce the cut-off marks after the declaration of GATE 2022 results. Candidates will be shortlisted based on their merit scores and the choices selected by them in the application form. Candidates will have to attend subsequent rounds of the M.Tech admission process. For some courses, students will also need to appear for the Suitability Test and Interview. In this case, students will be offered admissions based on their performance in suitability tests, GATE scores, and interviews.

  1. Acceptance of offer and Fee Payment: Once the candidates are selected, they will receive an admission offer letter from IIT Madras. Students will have to accept the offer and pay the program fees. After accepting the admission offer, the student will not be able to participate in the subsequent admission rounds or change the choice.
  2. Report for Admission: Candidates who accept the offer letter will then have to submit their certificate of qualifying degree examination and report at the institute within the given dates. Candidates will also have to submit a medical fitness certificate from the Registered Medical Practitioner.
  3. Course Fee Payment: Students who accept the admission offer will have to pay the course fee through the official website of IIT Madras M. Tech admissions. Further, students who wish to avail hostel facility will have to pay additional fees.

For PwD Candidates:

  • For PwD candidates with any category of disability (viz., blindness or low vision, hearing impairment, locomotor disability, or cerebral palsy), the benefit will be given to only those who have at least 40% permanent physical impairment in relation to a body part/ system/ extremity/ whole body, etc.
  • These candidates must upload the certificate of disability from the authorized medical board attached to one of the following: Vocational Rehabilitation Centre (VRC) for Physically Handicapped persons /Special Employment Exchange for Physically Handicapped/ Government Hospital (District and State level).

For HTTA and N-HTTA:

  • The first round of offers for HTTA and N-HTTA seats are likely to be sent after May 15, 2020 (tentatively).
  • Candidates, who accept the offer, will be required to make online payment within the stipulated date.
  • Second and subsequent offers would depend on the availability of the seats.
  • In the final round, if there are vacant seats within a department offering multiple programs, it will be re-distributed to other programs within the department.

For GATE Qualified Foreign Nationals:

Admission to Foreign Nationals follows a similar procedure with General Category candidates.

Students taking admission through HTTA category are required to assist the department for 8 hours of work per week related to academic activities of the department such as laboratory demonstration, tutorials, assessment of assignments, test papers, seminars, research projects, etc.

Some seats are also available without HTTA (N-HTTA, i.e., without any financial assistance) in some M. Tech. Programs. There is a provision for the candidates (Indian Nationals) who have joined M. Tech. Streams under N- HTTA category to convert to HTTA at the end of the first semester depending on the vacancies in HTTA category and on the basis of their performance in the first semester examinations.
