IISc Bangalore Admission 2020

Indian Institute of Science has yet to release the examination dates for admission to PG Degree programs namely M.Tech, M.Des and M.Mgt at iisc.ac.in. The online application will be made available from 1st week of Februrary 2020 (tentatively). The admission will be based on valid scores in GATE.

Read the following article to know more about the important dates, qualifying examination, eligibility criteria, courses offered and selection process.

M.Tech and M.Des Programs

The Institute offers course programmes based on course work: Master of Technology (M Tech), Master of Design (M Des) and Master of Management (M Mgt). 

Indian Institute of Science provides admission to 400 students every year for its course programs. Out of 400, 50 sponsored candidates from the Defence Services, DRDO, ISRO, NTRO, BARC, NAL, CPRI, KSRTC, BMTC, PWD and BDA and faculty members from engineering colleges under the Quality Improvement Program are also given admission.

Aspirants can choose to apply to a maximum of 5 disciplines from the M.Tech and M.Des programs.

M.Tech will be offered in following disciplines:

  1. Aerospace Engineering (AE)
  2. Chemical Engineering (CH)
  3. Civil Engineering* (CE)
  4. Mechanical Engineering (ME)
  5. Materials Engineering (MT)
  6. Computer Science & Engineering (CS)
  7. Microelectronic Systems (MI)
  8. Signal Processing (SP)
  9. Systems Engineering (SE)
  10. Instrumentation (IN)
  11. Transportation and Infrastructure Engineering (TI)
  12. Electronic Systems Engineering (ED)
  13. Computational and Data Science
  14. Climate Science (CL)
  15. Earth Science (ER)
  16. Electrical Engineering (EE)
  17. Communication & Networks (CN)
  18. Nano Science and Engineering (NA)

Centre for Product Design and Manufacturing (PD) will be the administration body for M.Des program. The area of study for M.Des would be Product Design and Engineering. The total seat intake for M.Des is 25.


Eligibility Criteria

Those who are in final year of the qualifying examination and awaiting results, are also eligible to apply.

Master of Management Program (M.Mgt)

Candidates with a B.E./B.Tech Degree (first class), and must have qualified in GATE 2020/2019/2018 and hold a valid GATE score card, or CAT 2020 or GMAT with a valid score card having validity as on August 01, 2020.

Management Studies (MG) will be the Department of Master of Management Program. The total seat intake for M.Mgt is 15. The areas of study for Management Studies will be Business Analytics and Technology Management.

Master of Technology (M.Tech) and Master of Design (M.Des)

Candidates aspiring to take admission in M.Tech programs should qualify GATE (2018/2019/2020). While for those who are interested in M.Des should have a valid scorecard in CEED 2019/2020 or GATE.

Candidates who join initially for M.Tech programs may be permitted to transfer to the PhD program, subject to academic assessments.

  • B.E./B.Tech or its equivalent.
  • Bachelor’s Degree holders in Physics/ Chemistry/ Mathematics/ Statistics/ Computer Science/ Electronics followed by qualifications obtained through an examination conducted by professional societies recognized by UPSC/AICTE.
  • B.Arch or B.Des (for M.Des program only).
  • Master’s Degree holders in Science including Physics with Electronics/ Instrumentation/Geology/ Computer Applications/ Physical Sciences/ Mathematical Sciences as applicable to individual departments offering M.Tech programs.

Online Application Instructions

Instructions for filling online application form for various programs offered at IISc Bangalore are:

Step 1: Register with Gmail email id and set a password to create a new account at www.iisc.ac.in. Fill in the following details:

  1. Name of the candidate
  2. Password
  3. Date of Birth
  4. Email Address
  5. Category
  6. Security Question
  7. Security Answer

Submit the details and verify the email. The online registration is complete.

Step 2: Login to the website and fill in the application form. Keep the following information handy to void last minute rush.

  • Certificate / Mark sheets of: 10th Std, 12th Std, UG Degree and/or PG Degree.
  • Details (Registration/Roll Numbers, Paper Code /Score etc.) of GATE / CEED /CAT / GMAT.
  • Payment Option: Decide on the mode of payment you prefer towards the application fee.
  • A scanned image of your passport size photograph.
  • A scanned image of your signature.
  • A scanned image of your caste certificate.

Step 3: The application form is divided into 4 sections: Personal Details, Preference Departments, Details of Qualification and Payment of fees.

Fields marked with * are mandatory to be filled in the application form.

Save and Proceed to move to the next section of the application form.

The only mode of payment of application fee is Online. The payment can be made either by Net banking or Visa card / Master card or Credit card or Debit card. The application fee is INR 800 for Gen and OBC candidates while for SC/ST/PwD, it is INR 400. Bank charges extra may apply on payment.

Selection Process

M.Tech Program

The final selection of the candidate would be on GATE (2018/2019/2020) scores only. In the case of candidates with equal GATE score, their performance in the qualifying examination will be used to resolve the tie.

M.Des Program

After screening based on the GATE/CEED score, a design aptitude test will be conducted in 2nd or 3rd week of May 2020 and the interview will be conducted after the test. Selection will be based on performance in the design Aptitude Test and Interview.

M.Mgt

After screening based on GATE 2018 /2019 /2020 / CAT 2020 /GMAT scores, group discussion and personal interview will be conducted at the Institute, between 2nd and 3rd week of April 2020. Selection will be based on performance in the group discussion and interview.
