IIT Delhi has released the GATE 2020 result on March 13, 2020. The subject wise list of toppers for all the 25 subjects has been announced on the official website. GATE 2020 was conducted on February 1, 2, 8 and 9, 2020 across various cities of India and Abroad. About 858890 candidates registered for the exam, out of which 685088 candidates i.e. 79.73% appeared. Among the appeared candidates only 18.8% have qualified the GATE 2020. Check GATE 2020 Cutoff
Civil Engineering Topper, Ajay Singhal who also appeared in GATE 2019 and secured a decent score, has bagged the first rank in GATE 2020 result. Read About PSU Recruitment through GATE
The GATE 2020 Topper is from Bharatpur, Rajasthan and did his B.Tech in Civil Engineering from IIT Roorkee in 2018.
Ajay appeared in GATE 2020 for Civil Engineering paper. He secured 90.77 marks and his score is 980.
Talking about his GATE 2019 attempt, Ajay says he was not satisfied with his score and reappeared in GATE 2020 for better performance with a better preparation strategy.
Elaborating this, he said his only reason to attempt GATE again was to join PSU. Since PSU recruitment through GATE is highly competitive and only good marks could lead him to make his dream come true.
Ajay started his preparation after completing his college in 2018. Every student should follow their own preparation strategy which suits them. The most important thing is to know the syllabus and pattern of the exam.

He took the coaching from an institute in Delhi. The coaching helped him alot in clearing his concepts, solving the doubts and preparing in an effective manner. The notes and study material provided by coaching institutes is more concise and helps in deeper understanding of the topics asked in GATE.
He practiced sample papers and gave mock tests. This helped him in evaluating his preparation level, mistakes repeated and also skilled the time management.
Ajay strictly followed his institute notes and study materials. Outside this he did not study any additional book.
According to Ajay, one should cover all the topics included in the syllabus. He gives special emphasis on topics- Strength of Materials (SOM), Solid Mechanics and Environmental Engineering.
During his preparation going on for the exam, there was a time when Ajay felt low. He kept himself motivated and used to talk to his college seniors, friends and family. They gave him an additional boost which kept him going on the track.
He first attempted the questions he was sure of. As the negative marking could rank him down so he made sure that the questions attempted by him are correct to the best of his knowledge.
The paper included conceptual questions and from basic understanding of the topics. One should focus on attempting as many questions as he/she could and secure a decent score.
Ajay advises the future aspirants to keep cool and not pressurize themselves. Study in a planned manner, stay focussed and take mock tests to analyze your preparation level.
