GATE 2022 Facilities Provided to PwD and Dyslexic Candidates- GATE 2022 or Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering is the most sought-after exam for engineering, technology and architecture aspirants. The exam is conducted jointly by IISc and the seven IITs. Nearly 9 lakh candidates have registered for GATE 2022. Usually, 10% of the registered students fall under the category of PwD and Dyslexic. To help such candidates, the GoI has formulated certain rules which are religiously followed by GATE Conducting Authorities as well.

  • GATE 2022 is scheduled to be conducted on February 5, 6, 12 and 13. Check GATE 2022 Exam Dates
  • Candidates can download their GATE Admit Card 2022 through the candidate portal GOAPS. All the candidates are required to carry their admit card and an original ID proof to the exam center. 
  • Apart from the facility of a scribe, GATE authorities also provide magnified question paper, compensatory extra time during the exam, etc. for PwD and Dyslexic candidates.

GATE 2022- Facilities Provided to PwD and Dyslexic Candidates

Certain facilities would be seen extended to differently-abled, Dyslexia and other related disabilities candidates during the GATE 2022 exam. These facilities would include:

  • Services of Scribe
  • Magnified Question Paper
  • Extra Time
  • Assistive Devices
Services of Scribe

GATE 2022- Services of Scribe

The facility of the scribe (as be Government of India Rules) would be extended to those PwD (or other related candidates) with benchmark disability (i.e. not less than 40% disability) and have physical limitation to visualize/write including that of speed. The scribe would be provided either by GATE 2022 conducting authority- IIT Kharagpur OR candidates can also bring their own scribe. Compensatory time would also be extended to such candidates.

Functions that scribe can do:

  • Read the instructions on the computer screen as verbatim
  • Emphasize test content to the candidate

Candidates are allowed to bring their own Scribe provided that the qualification of the Scribe is one step below the qualification of the candidate. Say for example a B.Sc graduate candidate taking GATE 2022 exam his Scribe can be 12th pass out and not above.

Scribe and Candidate would have to sign a declaration at the exam venue. For the aid of candidates, they would be allowed to visit the exam center a day before the examination to see and get familiarized with the arrangements.

Note(s): The scribe is not allowed to translate/ interpret/ emphasize the test paper contents to the candidate.
Magnified Question Paper

GATE 2022- Magnified Question Paper

For candidates having visual and other related disabilities “Magnified question paper” would be provided by GATE 2022 exam conducting authorities. Such candidates can request the same from the exam authorities on the venue and the facility would be extended to them.

Extra Time

GATE 2022- Extra Time

Dyslexia candidates can avail the services of scribe, provided such candidates submit a proper dyslexia certificate issued by the competent authorities. The compensatory (extra) time would be applicable only to such dyslexic candidates availing the scribe facility. 

The assistance that the Scribe can render to the candidate consists of ONLY reading the instructions and test paper displayed on the computer screen verbatim and in mouse-clicks if the candidate is not able to do so.

Assistive Devices

GATE 2022- Assistive devices

Assistive devices like Abacus, Braille slate, Wheelchair, etc if required by the candidates would be allowed to use during the exam. Candidates would have to make an arrangement for such assistive devices on their own and no such assistive device would be provided from the side of GATE 2022 exam conducting authorities.
