GATE Electrical Engineering (EE) Syllabus, Preparation Tips and Books

Electrical engineering is a professional engineering discipline that deals with the study and application of electricity, electronics, and electromagnetism. The syllabus of GATE Electrical Engineering is divided into 10 major sections including Engineering Mathematics. 

In GATE EE paper, the maximum weightage is given to core subject syllabus i.e. 70% and 15% each to General Aptitude & Engineering Mathematics. The general aptitude syllabus which is common for all the papers of GATE is considered as one of the easiest sections.  Check GATE Exam Pattern

GATE Syllabus for Electrical Engineering

GATE Syllabus for Electrical Engineering divided into 10 sections with topics that need to be covered. Candidate can check the Syllabus for GATE Electrical Engineering below:

  • Section 2: Electric Circuits
  • Section 3: Electromagnetic Fields

General Aptitude (GA) is a common section in all GATE Papers and holds 15% of the total marks. The questions in GA are based on verbal ability and numerical ability. The 2 subsections in the GA section are as follows:

  1. Verbal Ability- The following topics are tested in this section: English Grammar, Sentence Completion, Verbal Analogies, Word Groups, Instructions, Critical Reasoning, Verbal Deduction.

  2. Numerical Ability – This section comprises of questions which test the basic mathematical skills of candidates. The following subtopics included in this section are: Numerical computation, Numerical Estimation, Numerical Reasoning, Data Interpretation.

How to Prepare for EE Paper?

Preparation Tips for GATE Electrical Engineering

1. Knowledge of Fundamentals

  • The clarity of basic concepts is a must. To clear the basic concepts candidates can start their preparation from the basic syllabus or root level.
  • Take help from graduation level books and notes to get more clarity about the topics.
  • Refer to the books which are easy to understand.
  • Once your fundamentals are clear you can easily solve the other related topics.

2. Mock Tests

  • With the help of mock tests, candidates can get a much better idea about the exam pattern, type of questions, difficulty level of questions, etc.
  • You can judge the level of your preparation by taking mock tests.
