The total marks equal the count of marks gained in the correct answers and deduct the marks lost in incorrect markings. The marking scheme of GATE CY Paper is provided below:
NAT Marks = Total marks (1 mark each question) + Total marks (2 marks each question)
Total Marks obtained for MCQs = [{+1(for each correct answer carrying 1 mark) – 1/3 (for each incorrect answer carrying 1 mark)} + {2 (for each correct answer carrying 2 marks) – 2/3 (for each incorrect answer carrying 2 marks)}]
GATE score = Marks obtained for MCQs + Marks obtained for NAT questions

GATE scores are considered by many PSUs for employment. Even direct recruitment to Group A level posts in Central government: Senior Field Officer (Tele), Senior Research Officer (Crypto) and Senior Research Officer (S&T) in Cabinet Secretariat, Government of India, is now being carried out on the basis of scores in the examination. GATE Cutoff score is the minimum score that candidates need to secure in order to qualify the entrance test. Please note that GATE 2023 Cutoff will be separate for qualifying the exam and for admissions. The admissions cut-off will vary for each participating institute as it is dependent on the number of seats available at a particular institute as well as the number of applicants therein.
