IIT Delhi has successfully conducted GATE 2020 for 25 disciplines on February 1, 2, 8, & 9, 2020. Civil Engineering and Mechanical Engineering papers were conducted in 2 sessions. The official answer keys for all the subjects of  GATE 2020  will be published 10 days after the exam. Candidates will be able to view their responses on the official website by entering their enrollment ID or email address or registration ID and password.  GATE 2020 Result will be declared on March 16, 2020. GATE 2020 Paper Analysis

GATE 2020 Marking Scheme

For each of the 25 subjects, the paper covers a total of 65 questions of 100 marks. Each paper is divided into subsections and on the basis of it, marking scheme is defined:

  • General Aptitude: 5 Questions of 2 Marks each and 5 Questions of 1 Marks each.
  • Engineering Mathematics- 5 Questions of 2 Marks each and 5 Questions of 1 Marks each. This section is for the papers with codes AE, AG, BT, CE, CH, CS, EC, EE, IN, ME, MN, MT, PE, PI, TF, and XE.
  • Subject Knowledge- 25 Questions of 2 Marks each and 20 Questions of 1 Marks each.
  • For the paper codes – AR, CY, EY, GG, MA, PH and XL, the General Aptitude will cover 15% out of 100 marks, and the other 85% of the total question paper will be covered by the subject of the paper.
  • No negative marking for NAT questions.
  • For 1 mark questions, 1/3 marks will be deducted for wrong answers.
  • For 2 mark questions, 2/3 marks will be deducted for wrong answers.

GATE Paper Analysis

Most media reports and academic experts believe that GATE 2020 paper difficulty level ranged from moderate to tough. Civil Engineering papers were found to be easy in the aptitude section whereas it was relatively tougher in the technical section. Mechanical Engineering paper was debated to be tough by many and easy by a few candidates. ECE paper was also considered as moderate difficulty. 

ME Paper Analysis

Mechanical Engineering is the preferred and popular stream amongst engineering aspirants. This exam takes place in 2 sessions. 

Session 1 – ME:

  • As per students who had appeared for GATE last year the difficulty level of session 1 is easy to moderate.
  • The questions from General Aptitude were easy and direct but the questions from NAT were a bit lengthy and time taking. 

Session 2 – ME:

  • In this session, the difficulty level was high in comparison to session 1. 
  • There were about 32 questions in the NAT section, 6 questions more than the morning session. 

EC Paper Analysis

  • Overall, the paper was of moderate difficulty level.
  • Questions asked from Networks, Control Systems and Signal and Systems were easy.
  • Questions asked from Digital and Micro Processor, EDC and EMT were of moderate level of difficulty.
  • Questions asked from Analog Circuits and Communication Systems were comparatively difficult.
  • Engineering Mathematics was of moderate level of difficulty.
  • The General Aptitude section was relatively easy. 

CS Paper Analysis

  • As per the students, the difficulty level of the exam was easy to moderate. 
  • Around 24 questions were from the NAT section.
  • More questions were framed out of Programming and Data structures and Discrete Mathematics topics.

IN Paper Analysis

  • The questions in IN paper last year were of moderate difficulty level.
  • As per students, questions asked from Networks, Control Systems and Signal and systems were easy to solve and the questions related to Digital and Micro Processor, Transducer, Measurements, and Optical Instrumentation were of moderate level of difficulty.
  • Analog circuits and Communication Systems questions were at a difficult level.
  • Engineering Mathematics was of moderate difficulty level.
  • The General Aptitude section was easy. 

CE Paper Analysis

  • CE exam also takes place in 2 sessions.
  • Last year the exam was of moderate difficulty level
  • Some questions were particularly time-consuming.
  • General Aptitude section was quite easy when compared it previous years papers. 
  • The mathematics section was of moderate difficulty level. The questions were framed so as to check the basic knowledge and analytical ability of the candidates.

GATE 2020 Expected Cut off

IIT Delhi will release the qualifying Cut off of GATE 2020 on March 16, 2020. Candidates must clear the defined cut off for admission to ME/M.Tech courses in IITs, NITs, and other participating colleges. The Cut off will be in the form of marks. Candidates can check the expected cut off for GATE 2020 prepared on the basis of previous years trends.
