GATE 2020 Mechanical Engineering (ME) Answer Key, Question Paper & Analysis

GATE 2020 will be conducted on February 1, 2, 8 and 9, 2020 through computer-based mode. IIT Delhi will release GATE Answer Keys 2020 (ME) at GOAPS portal. Candidates can download the question paper and answer key from gate.iitm.ac.in. The exam for both the sessions will conclude on February 2.

  • The governing body will release GATE 2020 Result by March 16. The results will be released in the form of scores
  • As the exam is conducted in multiple session, normalization procedure will be followed to evaluate and publish the final scores. Read more
  • Both the sessions in GATE had a different density in terms of the difficulty level. As per the students, the forenoon session difficulty level was easy to moderate. Whereas, the afternoon session had considerable difficult questions. Check GATE Paper Analysis
  • GATE Cut off is expected to range in between 31 – 34 marks. Final cutoff will be released after both the conclusion of both the sessions.

How to Check GATE 2020 ME Answer Key?

  1. Visit the official website of GATE i.e. gate.iitm.ac.in
  2. Enter the required credentials i.e. Enrollment ID, Registration Number and Date of Birth
  3. GATE ME Answer key will be displayed on your screen.
  4. Check and download it for future reference.

How to challenge GATE Answer Key?

  1. Log into GATE Online Application Processing System.
  2. Go through the guidelines given carefully.
  3. Agree by checking on the declaration. 
  4. Click on the “Contest Answer Key" tab to be able to pay and mail objections related to the answer.
  5. INR 500 has to be paid via online portal provided for every question. NRI candidates of GATE will have to pay the US $10 per question being challenged.
  6. It is important to use the correct question number given in the question paper to challenge.
  7. Attach a justified proof for challenging the answer key.

GATE Previous Year Mechanical Engineering (ME) Paper Analysis

This year, the mechanical engineering paper was conducted in two sessions viz.

Session 1 (Forenoon): 9:30 am – 12:30 pm

As per the students, the General Aptitude section had easy and direct questions. On the technical side, the Math section had about 8 questions (4Qs were of 1 mark and 4Qs. were of 2 marks) and about 47 questions were from ME branch.

There were about 26 questions in NAT section. 10 questions were of 1 mark and 16 questions of 2 marks. They were a bit lengthy and evaluated the candidate’s concepts.

Session 2 (Afternoon): 2:30 pm – 5: 30 pm

As per the students, the General Aptitude section had some difficult questions. On the technical side, the Math section had about 8 questions and about 32 questions were from ME branch. There were about 32 questions in NAT section. 6 questions more than the morning session. As there were more questions in this section, managing the time became a task for the aspirants.

GATE 2020 Cutoff & Qualifying Marks for ME

GATE Cut off is the minimum score required for admissions to the M.Tech programme in Mechanical Engineering. The merit list will be prepared for counselling and admission process on the basis of cutoff marks.
