GATE 2009 PI Question Paper with Answer Key PDF is made available here for download. The exam was conducted successfully by IIT Roorkee on 8th February during the forenoon session. The overall test difficulty was rated moderate to difficult by the test takers. The question paper consisted of MCQ Type questions only, with questions asked from the technical subjects as well as a few questions from the Mathematics subject.

A total of 60 questions were asked in the GATE 2009 PI Paper, with questions carrying 1 or 2 marks. The questions paper was divided into sections by the questions carrying 1 or 2 marks. Questions in the first section carried 1 mark and consisted of 20 questions in all, whereas, the second section consisted of 40 questions, each carrying 2 marks.

GATE 2009 PI Paper Analysis

GATE 2009 PI Paper consisted of a total of 60 questions carrying 1 or 2 marks. Candidates can find out the detailed analysis of the number of 1 or 2 marks questions asked in the exam in the below table.

  • The total marks awarded for the question paper were 100.
  • The marking scheme included a negative marking for the questions marked incorrect.
  • A negative 0.33 was awarded for 1 mark questions attempted incorrectly, and negative 0.66 marks were awarded for 2 mark questions attempted incorrectly.
  • There was no negative marking for the questions left unattempted.
  • Calculators were allowed to the candidates without any kind of data connectivity, however, they were not allowed to carry any kind of charts, graph papers, or tables in the examination hall.;
  • Any kind of table if needed was either provided in the question paper itself or was provided by the examiner (on demand). Any calculations requiring rough work to be done can be done on the rough sheets provided at the end of the question paper itself.;
