Read the article to know more about the new rule for NEET 2021, studying MBBS in abroad and much more.

Reasons to Make NEET Mandatory to Study MBBS Abroad

  • The motive for this rule is to control the standard of the candidate who wants to opt for the MBBS program offered at the institute outside of the country.
  • Moreover, as per the research, it is found that the standard of candidates has been degrading for the last few years because of the low standard medical aspirants.
  • It is found from the number of applications submitted by the medical applicants. As per the information collected from the official sources of the Health Ministry, every year, around 6000 to 7000 medical aspirants move to the country Russia or China to opt for the MBBS program.
  • Among them, only 10% to 15% of candidates qualify the entrance test that is conducted by MCI.
  • In foreign countries, most of the institutes offer MBBS programs at a reasonable cost. As no common entrance test is conducted for the admission to MBBS program offered in various foreign countries so NEET is the one and the only gateway for candidates to pursue the MBBS program.
  • However, it is mandatory for all the candidates who want to register as medical practitioners to sit for FMGE (Foreign Medical Graduate Examination). FMGE will be conducted by the (MCI) Medical Council of India.

Some overseas countries to pursue the MBBS program are tabulated below.

Regulations for Candidates to Pursue MBBS in Foreign Universities

  • At present, candidates who want to pursue the MBBS program through NEET 2021 must secure not less than 50% of marks in aggregate in higher secondary level board examination only from a recognised board.
  • This is required for medical aspirants who want to get certificates regarding the eligibility criteria issued by MCI to opt for the MBBS course offered out of the country. Apart from that, candidates also need to prove their quality demanded by different educational boards.
  • However, no such rules are offered by the foreign institutes where medical courses are offered.
  • According to one of the officials from the Health Ministry of India, this entrance test will help to enrol the students as per their standard. And this will solve the problem that arises earlier where candidates are not justified as per their qualification.
  • After the declaration of the new rules, all the MBBS aspirants should not only get through NEET but also need to be ranked among the top 5 percentile. This rule is applicable for candidates who aspire to become medical practitioners abroad. No different routes will be granted for those candidates.

Other Regulation by MCI

Apart from formulating the new rule, the health ministry and MCI want to upgrade doctors who have already passed the MBBS program from the institute outside of the country.

  • As per the survey, it was seen that a huge number of MBBS aspirants from India has registered for their program in China.
  • And for this, a list of 45 top MBBS candidates was told to prepare to the Ministry of Education, China by the Health Ministry of India.
  • All the aspirants must note that candidates who want to get the eligibility certificate issued by MCI, can get help from the medical institutes in China.
  • This move is yet to be confirmed but as per the announcement made by the concerned authority, it will be mandated for all the MBBS aspirants.
