By the order of the Delhi High Court, on February 24, 2018, CBSE released a notification allowing students of National Institute of Open Schooling(NIOS) to fill the application form for NEET 2018. CBSE clarified that it is the duty of Medical Council of India to decide the eligibility criteria.

CBSE only acts as the convenor of the examination and implements the guidelines set by MCI.

Following this, central government decided to allow NIOS students to appear for NEET 2018.  Medical Council of India earlier prohibited the students from open schools to appear for NEET 2018 citing that they cannot match the level of the regular school student and hence should not be allowed to appear for the exam. This decision of the government came as a relief to the such candidates.

Technical Glitch!

A huge number of applicants were unable to complete the online NEET 2018 application process as the website asked them to fill in details such as the year they passed Class XI and the name of the school and its address where they studied. Students of NIOS appear directly for Class XII examination and do not appear for Class XI due to which they faced a huge problem.

To counter this glitch CBSE released a public notice on March 05, 2018, stating that all the NIOS applicants will have to enter the details of their Class XII in the application form for the asked Class XI details.

How can NIOS students Apply??

NIOS students will also have to follow the same procedure as the regular students. All the candidates have to fill the application form in an online mode at the official website of NEET. The online portal to fill application form will be functional till March 09, 2018. Since 2017, CBSE made Aadhaar card mandatory document for registration.

• Visit the official website www.cbseneet.nic.in and click on the ‘New Registration’ link.
• Read the instructions carefully and click on ‘Apply Online’. 
• Enter the details asked in the application form such as Name, DoB, Nationality, Mobile Number, etc.
• On completion of registration, candidates will receive a Registration Number and Password on their registered mobile number.
• Next step is to log in and fill in the required details asked in the application form like personal details, Choice of Examination Centre, Academic Details and Address and Details of Parents. 
• NIOS students must keep in mind that they have to fill in the details of Class XII in the place where Class XI details are asked and the year of passing Class XI must be a year prior to Class XII:

• After filling in all the details, you will be required to upload your passport sized Photograph, Signature, and Left Hand Thumb Impression.

• The final step of filling the application form for NEET 2018 is to remit the application fee which can be done by Debit card/Credit Card, Net Banking, E-Wallets of different service providers, or Offline Mode - via challan. 
• After successful payment, if your application status shows ‘Confirmed’ then your application is accepted by the exam authorities.
• Take a print out of NEET Application Form as well as of the confirmation page.

In a separate news, MHRD Minister has announced that NEET 2018 would be conducted across 150 Exam centers from this year. Any city which had more than 4000 students registered for the examination last year have been provided with a centre this year. CBSE will be conducting NEET 2018 examination across the country on May 6, 2018.
