Manipal Institute of Technology M.Tech Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for M.Tech course, candidates need to have a B.Tech degree with minimum 50% marks.

Manipal Institute of Technology M.Tech Admission Criteria

Admission to M.Tech at Manipal Institute of Technology is based on Manipal Entrance Test or GATE scores. Candidates with GATE scores will be given preference for admission. The final selection will be done through a counselling process conducted by the Institute.

GATE 2023 Entrance Exam

GATE 2023 syllabus has been released at the official website and authorities have revised the syllabus of all the subjects.

Syllabus includes General Aptitude, Engineering Mathematics, and the topics from the subject opted by the test takers. The weightage of all the sections will be different.

A new type of question has also been added in GATE this year i.e. Multiple Select Question, MSQ.

For MCQ type questions +1 or 2 marks will be awarded for correct answers whereas ? marks will be deducted for 1 mark question and ? for 2 mark question. No negative marking will be there in NAT and MSQs.

GATE Exam Pattern

There are 3 types of questions in GATE 2023:

Objective Type (MCQ)
Numerical Answer Type (NAT)
Multiple Select Questions (MSQ)

Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs)

In MCQs, candidates are provided with 4 choices out of which one answer is correct.
A candidate has to mark the correct choice by clicking the button against the option.

Multiple Select Questions (MSQ)

These questions are objective in nature.
Each question will have a choice of four answers. Out of which, one or more than one choice(s) are correct.
There is no negative marking for a wrong answer in MCQ questions.

Numerical Answer Type (NAT) Questions

NAT includes questions with a value or a real number as their answer.
NAT questions will be mentioned with, up to which decimal places, the candidates need to make an answer.
There won’t be any choices for these questions.
There will be no negative marking for NAT questions.

GATE 2023 Syllabus

Questions Based on General Aptitude

Apart from questions based on the subjects, the paper will also contain the questions to test the ability of your General Ability like- Language and Analytical Skills. 15% weightage of total marks is devoted to General Aptitude section in all the papers. The distribution of the questions and marks is described below:

5 questions for total 5 marks (1 mark for each question)
5 questions for total 10 marks (2 marks for each question)

Subject Based Questions

Recall: This includes questions based on facts, principles, formulae and laws of discipline. The candidate has to mark an answer either directly from a memory or from one line computation.
Comprehension: These types of questions test the candidate’s basic understanding of the field they belong to.
Application: These are the logical reasoning based questions wherein the candidates have to answer according to their knowledge through computation.
Analysis and Synthesis: In these questions, the candidate is presented with data, diagrams, images etc. that require analysis before a question can be answered. A Synthesis question might require the candidate to compare two or more pieces of information.

During the 2023 placement drive at MIT, around 18 recruiters visited to hire the M.Tech students. There is no need to worry about ragging at Manipal University as it follows a strict 0% ragging policy on the campus. The points below state some of the incidents faced by candidates in the university that would clear the picture of ragging in the institute. Wardens are very strict in some blocks in the hostels. The rules are so strict that students from other blocks feel terrified to enter. There are incidents of fun in the hostels of Manipal University, in the names of ragging. One night around 11:30 PM, a group of senior students entered the rooms of juniors and locked the doors. Some of them created a panic situation among the students and left the rooms. Just at 12:00 AM, they entered the room again with friendship bands and wished Happy Friendship Day to juniors. The seniors are very interactive and helpful. During technical club fests, meets, etc, senior and juniors get to interact a lot among them. Most seniors are very friendly and help their juniors at times. As evident from the above points, the situation of ragging in Manipal University is actually fun and interactive. Although not 0%, but most of the incidents of ragging are based on creating a good relationship between juniors and seniors in the university.

I have a few friends pursuing courses at MIT Manipal. One of my friends is in Mechanical Engineering and he is happy to be there. Campus infrastructure is very good and well-maintained compared to any NITs and IITs. Students enrolled and Peer groups might not be as good as compared to IITs and NITs but still, you can meet people of different places with unique talents. You can achieve Good social exposure that can help to develop your personality. The faculties are average, you need to depend on yourself for academics, which is true for most colleges. The scope of Research might not be as good but the students of Manipal University made a student satellite which can be considered a big achievement. On average, over 250+ recruiting teams visit MIT Manipal for UG & PG campus placements & internship recruitment every year. The recent placement statistics for the institute are as follows. I am going to talk about what makes Manipal University special. As I know a thing or two about the institute through my friends who are studying there. It is among the best medical colleges in the country. The faculties are great and there is scope for research. These are the reasons why it has been given special status. Among all the private institutions in the same field, Manipal is ranked at 5th which shows the promise of more development. MIT became autonomous back in 2000 and within only 20 years it has become one of the top 50 engineering colleges in the country, out of 10000. The placement statistics of MIT are also improving with the passing years. It was ranked top among all the private institutes of India by QS World rankings. The infrastructure facilities provided at the campus are great. Although MIT has a higher course fee with the brand name it’s easier to find private funding. So, there are some of the things that may have been the reason why MIT got special status.

NIT Trichy can be considered at par with BITS Pilani, IIT BHU, and IIT ISM Dhanbad. Manipal Institute of Technology, on the other hand, can hardly be compared with several low-tier NITs, NIT Mizoram and NIT Nagaland are to name a few among the handful. The infrastructure of NIT Trichy is comparably not as well established as what is in Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT). However, MIT is still a growing institute. It is one of the best private institutes, only following BITS Pilani but still requires a valid amount of time until it gains a similar reputation as other top institutes. Manipal offers better infrastructure and facilities but NIT Trichy is definitely better than Manipal Institute of Technology in all other aspects.

Having a few friends from the mentioned institutes here are some tips for you. Both HBTI and IET Lucknow have a decent faculty like MIT Manipal and even the fee is very less. The diversity in MIT Manipal differentiates it from the rest of the colleges in India. MIT Manipal and HBTI Kanpur have been ranked #45 and #166 by the NIRF respectively.
